Justin Chatwin as Goku in Dragonball — FIRST PICTURE
Here’s the first clear (possibly) official photo of Justin Chatwin as anime hero Goku from the upcoming Dragonball live-action film.
Also pictured: Emmy Rossum as Bulma, whose father’s Dragon Ball is stolen by Piccolo (James Marsters).
Jamie Chung of Real World: San Diego fame is also pictured below. She plays Chi Chi, the lifelong love interest of Goku.
Dragonball has the tentative release date of April 8, 2009.

for the love of japan, leave their animes alone… especially the iconic ones like this. they’re already great as they are. making the characters human is unrealistic and just plain weird (justin chatwin looks electrocuted– looks good in anime characters, eek in real-life).

lol WOW. This is crazy. I thought they called the whole movie off a few years back. I do see some resemblance but not too much though.
Since DB is a JAPANESE anime, and the characters are clearly A Japanese/Chinese hybrid why are the majority of actors white?! Justin is a cute kid, but *he’s* Go ku?! Goh ku. A white guy named Goh ku? Gimme me a break. And why did they keep Chi Chi Asian then? Makes no goddamm sense. LEAVE OUR CARTOONS ALONE WHITE AMERICA.
They totally ruined Goku & ChiChi and everyone else. Not gonna see this.

They should have taken some one like Jet Li, or some well built asian actor for this. Why would you use that geeky looking runt? I mean, that guy is great at playing roles of victims and abused beat up kids, not super-powered sayans. I mean look at him, he looks like a toothpick. i could not agree more with stephaniiieee! just from the pictures i am optimistic! And everyone is complaining about Justin Chatwin not being jacked, Goku was not jacked in Dragon ball! and since this movie takes place right before Dragon Ball Z i think he is perfect build for the role. And on a side note if every charecter was japenese this movie would definetly tank. Cause no one in America except for Dragon Ball fans would go and see it and since they are targeting a larger demographic they need to get actors that people will enjoy seeing on the big screen. Now Justin Chatwin might not be the biggest name in Hollywood, but i guarentee him being in it brings the movie a bigger crowd than any unknown Japanese actor could. At the end of the day this movie is going to have incredible action scenes powered up Charecters, and a bad ass Fight between Goku and Picolo. So i for one am excited for this movie. And if you guys were real Dragon Ball fans you wouldnt waste your time bad mouthing the movie and saying you wont go and see it. You should be saying how reguardless of what idiotic notion you have of this movie you have yet to see a trailer for, You will go and support your beloved dragon ball because thats what a real fan would do.

Umm I read in an interview with the creator that Goku is supposed to look white and technically hes not Japanese either hes a freakin alien, so get over the whole “he should be asian!” but hey i’m not obsessed with it as much as you guys are. and if they did use an all asian cast and make bulma have her blue hair you would all complain how they don’t look anything like the characters or say it looks like some stupid kiddy movie. heck if it were all white people with blue hair it would look stupid. some things only look good in animation. hopefully it won’t be a flop and they will do a good job like they did with transformers.
i am so tired of everyone complaining about these things, if it bothers you so much don’t watch it, then maybe if it doesn’t make at least what it took to make the film they will stop turning anime into live action american movies. but all of you who are complaining probably will watch it and be the first ones in line to see it.

What a poor ass casting decision for Goku. He looks like an emo white high schooler instead of the small asian looking boy that Goku is during Dragonball. The character Goku and his story from Dragonball are actually based on a classic Chinese fairytale, in which elements like the flying cloud and that pig character are iconic. This is an absurd bastardization of Dragonball.
Somehow i just don’t see this working.
For those who say you should like the movie no matter what because it’s Dragonball and thats what a ‘real’ fan would do… get over yourselves. I love the Dragponball Manga and Anime but im not fond of a number of even the animated movies or Dragonball GT much. Does that make me any less of a fan? Not in the slightest, they weren’t created by Akira Toriyama and neither was this. It’s simply expensive fan-fiction.
The one line ive heard of Goku so far is; “Im not ready for this…”
Since when did Goku say things like that? He is the ultimate optimist and i can’t see this film showing the Goku we know and love, with his incredible appetite, martial art ambition and confidence to go along with his childlike innocence and intelligence.
Il go see it in the cinema and hope im pleasentaly suprised, but il not be holding my breath and go in with very low expectations.
