Paul could bill Dreamworks for Brad and Angelina’s stay there. Dreamworks would get a tax deduction for the amount they pay in “rental” to Paul as a marketing expense as part of the KFP promotion. So then it’s JUST business. No friendship involved. Market rates of rentals of villas during the Cannes films festival would be high. Suites at the Hotel du Cap would be going at 5 to 10 thousand Euros per night.

Then again, you may be right. If Paul were charging some rental and having to make tax declarations in France or may be even in the US would just be a pain in the neck for someone like Paul unless he ran the villa and the yachts like a rental business - which I can’t see him doing coz it would be so intrusive. It would all be nickel and dimes for him anyway. Paul’s stake in dreamworks, even after divestment is worth $93 million dollars (he still owns 4% of DW).

It’s definitely budgeted as marketing expense. I’m sure Paul Allen will bill Dreamworks. Dreamworks will treat it as marketing expense.

But for Dreamworks to write off as expense, it has to be reasonable. Therefore, whatever the normal living expense any movie exec provides for their A+++ lister will be the amount Dreamworks will pay.

I imagine in this case, Paul Allen will be charging Dreamworks this rate, instead of the usual “high villa” rate
