George Takei To Marry Brad Altman
Openly gay actor George Takei (Star Trek, Heroes) has announced that he will marry his longtime love, Brad Altman, this summer. This comes shortly after California announced its same-sex marriage ruling.
Takei, 71, said on his official blog, “Our California dream is reality. Brad Altman and I can now marry. We are overjoyed! At long last, the barrier to full marriage rights for same-sex couples has been torn down. We are equal with all citizens of our state!
“The California Supreme Court has ruled that all Californians have a fundamental right to marry the person he or she loves. Brad and I have shared our lives together for over 21 years. We’ve worked in partnership; he manages the business side of my career and I do the performing. We’ve traveled the world together from Europe to Asia to Australia. We’ve shared the good times as well as struggled through the bad. He helped me care for my ailing mother who lived with us for the last years of her life. He is my love and I can’t imagine life without him. Now, we can have the dignity, as well as all the responsibilities, of marriage. We embrace it all heartily.
“With time, I know the opposition to same sex marriage, too, will be seen as an antique and discreditable part of our history. As U.S. Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy remarked on same sex marriage, ‘Times can blind us to certain truths and later generations can see that laws once thought necessary and proper, in fact, serve only to oppress.’
“For now, Brad and I are enjoying the delicious dilemma of deciding where, when, and how we will be married. Marriage equality took a long time, but, like fine wine, its bouquet is simply exquisite.”
Congratulations to the happy couple!

Congrats to the happy couple! I forsee a summer filled with lots of gay marriages in CA- who doesn’t like a wedding?
Well put, Mr. Takei. And congratulations. I am happy for everyone who is in love and want to marry..
what is disgusting is that an individual in the united states of america; a nation that hold itself up to the world as a place where all are equal and free under the law is stil denied the right under law to marry whomever he/she chooses. regardless of whether both partners are male, female, or one of each. i’m straight and in a committed relationship with a man i love. but i would never tell a gay couple that they cannot get married. for the record, the united states is way behind in this issue. in denmark, sweden, norway, the netherlands etc two people of same sex wanting to get married -no big deal.
I guess Ca is trying to stimulate the gay wedding economy!
This is fantastic. Thank you for posting. I’m ecstatic for them.
I’m not lesbian, and I don’t agree with it, but who are all of you to judge it? It isn’t your place to judge them. It’s a decision that people make, and it is people like you that bring shame to everyone in America. As people, they have a right to be that way. Congrats to them!
I think it is time to disown Mexifornia.
Some people are so anal (no pun intended)
Yay! That’s awesome!! Congrats
Why are people so judgmental of something that has no effect on them, these people are already together, living together, enjoying their lives whether they have a legal piece of paper saying so or not, nothing changes in society. If your reasons are religious then you should instantly know you have no place to judge, as you have no right to put those beliefs on someone else, we live in a country where people can choose their religion, separation of church and state, it’s that simple. Many congratulations to george and brad.
my god you americans and ur bible
congrats.
he looks good for 71
I love George, however what California did, was go against the people. If your going to go against the people, we are going to have total anarchy and while the gays might be happy now. What happens when the gays are attacked, who is going to defend the gays? Remember, the gays wanted the people votes not to count, so who’s going to count their votes when they are attacked? It’s going to happen.
