Jake Gyllenhaal is the Prince of Persia
Jake Gyllenhaal has been crowned the Prince of Persia!
The 27-year-old actor and Gemma Arterton, who stars in the new James Bond film, will take the lead roles in the fantasy adventure, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, which starts production in July.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, “Gyllenhaal will play Dastan, a young prince in sixth century Persia who must join forces with Tamina (Arterton), a feisty and exotic princess, to prevent a villainous nobleman from possessing the Sands of Time, a gift from the gods that can reverse time and allow its possessor to rule the world.”
Last month, it was reported that Orlando Bloom would take on the role.

i’m persian and i know , the best suited actor for that role would have been none other than COLIN FARRELL, a persian prince alway is a gorgeous, sexy, charming hunk and COLIN FARRELLwould have been so perfect for this role, that was a wrong, wrong casting , jake is ugly and he doesn’t even look like a regular persian guy , let alone a persian prince , very awful chose , that movie is going to flop just because of the casting , wait and see.

Lots of stupid comments. First Persians are WHITE, they are not orientals not blacks, so they have to be white. Second, Jake needs a movie that will be popular and make money. He has done too many “intelligent” movies that have bombed. He would be as good a Persian as anybody in Hollyweird. Silly people who think they know what “Persians” (Iranians) all look like. They look as different from each other as do Americans. The President of Iran does rather resemble Jake when Jake lets his beard cover most of his face. Jake looks just as “Persian” as Bloom. Sean Connery could be Persian too. So could lots of other Hollyweird stars. A blue eyed blond would probably not be convincing as a Persian. But Jakes is not one. If he has blue eyes, they come from tinted contacts. LOL.
I wonder if his friendship with Witherspoon has influenced him into taking this role. She might have encouraged him to do a movie that would earn some real money. Stop being so artsy-fartsy about roles and go for the money, the moolah, the way she does.

Serving Grape Nehi soda and egg salad sandwiches at a Sunday afternoon picnic would be considered “white bread”. Persians may be white, but there is no way in hell that they could POSSIBLY be “white bread”.

IMO, Jake is TOTALLY wrong for this movie. The only way that they could have made a worse decision would be to have signed Zac Effron for the role. I agree with some of the other posters. Orlando would have been a much better choice.

I was referring to Miranda. Every story for months has been linked to Miranda. If you type a search in for Bloom, you get Mirandas face up there. I’m not a big Jake fan, but man! I’d much rather see his face pop up when searching for Bloom stories! LOL! Gosh - even a little “Brokeback” with those two would be better than Kerr.
Orlando was never in. He would have been a much better choice, but he probably couldn’t be persuaded to pick up another sword. I bet he was Jerry’s first choice though.
And even though this will be a fantasy adventure, the fantasy shouldn’t have to start with the believability of the lead character.

You know that Persian (Iranic peoples) spread across the Iranian plateau, it means from Hindu Kush to central Anatolia (Turkey) and from Central Asia to Persian Gulf. The Native people of Iran are White Caucasian, but one tribe who also lived there was Jew. Did I say the Iranian President was a prince? NO. So the lead is an “Iranian Prince”. So what? You think you know what an “Iranian Prince” looks like? Did you ever see one, “years ago”? NO. I am not confused, my dear, but YOU are.

Rumour has it that Bloom was never linked to the project and Disney wanted Jake from day one. Apparently they want to do a three part series (like POTC). If the first movie is successful then they’ll do two more. If thats true, then it means Disney has far too much money riding on the project to even consider an unknown actor.
Also, the movie is based on a game, not an ACTUAL Persian Prince. In the game the prince is actually an orphan commoner so nuts to a lot of you. I reckon Jake could pull this movie off. He’s talented and dedicated enough and he’s been in training to buff up for a while now. He’s looking rather muscular.

This minor setback highlights major problems plaguing the Russian space program.
The launch was postponed because a similar rocket that lifted off from the Baikonur space center in Kazakhstan in late April failed to place an Israeli satellite into the intended 36,000-km geostationary orbit. The customer will now have to use the satellite’s precious fuel reserve in order to attain the required orbit.
Sea Launch executives have therefore decided to suspend operations pending an investigation of the abortive Baikonur launch.
This is the latest in a series of failures involving the most advanced Russian launch vehicles and spacecraft. Now, BubbleBoy is being shown today on US TV. In some ways Jake lost his way. He was best in the beginning playing the role of a teenager, whether intense (October Sky) or confused (Good Girl; BubbleBoy). Since then only Brokeback has been worth looking at and Ledger was a lot of the reason for that. Jake needs to find a new persona that fits him. Prince of Persia might or might not. He doesn’t convince as a married man, or as an intellectual. He’s best as a nice kid, a confused kid, or as a love smitten gay. Those are the roles that fit him probably because they are more natural for him. (He was very convincing when Ledger would turn his overtures of love down and the pain was palpable).
Speaking of Brokeback, Jake was at his best when, at the beginning of the movie, he let out hints that he was ready for man sex. When he was waiting along with Ledger to see the man who would hire them he pretended to shave himself in a rear view mirror of his truck so that he could watch Ledger undetected. And then he leaned against the truck and stretched out his body languidly and sensually for Ledger to see. He was making it clear he already had a sexual relationship in mind but of course he bided his time and waited for the right moment to make his overt move. I think the reason for the gossip that Jake is gay is that he played a closet gay so very very well.
He may be just a very good actor, or…..he may actually be…..well, you know.

Moonlight Mile was a lousy movie, none of the actors were convincing and the story sucked big time. Terrible movie. Jake made a big mistake getting into that one. Other Jake-mistakes were: Jarhead (boring in the extreme), Proof (terrible), Rendition (a bomb), and Zodiac (too long and pointless). I never saw him in Lovely and Amazing so I can’t comment on that one. He needs a movie where he can be himself (a character that takes advantage of his personality), and that MAKES SOME MONEY FOR A CHANGE. He needs movies where he can be sly and funny and charming (as he is in interviews) and sexy as he can pretend to be (as in Brokeback).

He’s built and would probably resemble you average goldie-locked Persian back in history. I mean we do need historical accuracy here right?? And neither Jake or Ahmadinejad can pull off that blonde hair, blue eyed look better than my man Ivan Drago.
