OlderDaughter of Stephen Curtis Chapman Killed
The five-year-old daughter of contemporary Christian music star Steven Curtis Chapman was killed last night by a car driven by her teenage brother in the driveway of the Chapman family’s Williamson County home in Tennessee.
Maria, Chapman’s youngest of six children, was playing in the driveway when she was struck by a Toyota Land Cruiser. Several members of the Chapman family witnessed the accident.
A statement on Chapman’s website says, “Maria was rushed to Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital in Nashville, transported by LifeFlight, but died of her injuries there.” Fans have been leaving their messages of condolences on Chapman’s official MySpace page.
Chapman and his wife, Mary Beth, co-wrote a song entitled “Maria” for his 1992 album, The Great Adventure. You can find the lyrics here.

I have enjoyed your music for years. You are all in my thoughts and prayers. This is a tragic loss. She is save in Heaven, but her family on earth will miss her greatly. For the brother who accidently drove the vehicle, I’ll pray for you. You need to forgive yourself and go on with the life God has planned for you. Run to the Father God and accept the forgiveness and the love that He has for you.

I will say a pray for LIttle Maria and her family today
my heart has achec for this family since I heard this morning….as a mother of two children, I simply could not imagine such a tragedy but I also believe the promise of my Saviour and Lord that he would never leave me nor forsake me….And he would not put ANYTHING on me I could not handle. With his grace and mercy I pray for strength for this family to endure such pain and loss. God has a plan and will be glorified through this.
this is a terrible tragedy. Something that this family will only get thru with faith. This teenager (son) will have the greatest guilt of all. My heartfelt sympathy goes out to this family, and will be in my prayers. There is another song her wrote for her, called CINDERELLA…look it up, it’s beautiful….

My mother was the driver of a vehicle in which their friends 3yr. old was killed. As tragic as it is her mother sang in our church the next Sunday, I climb that mountain. Harboured no hard feelings. God promised to comfort in our time of need. I believe there is always a purpose in our lives. How we get there is not in our hands sometimes. Their son can and will live with this terrible accident. I pray for their comfort and healing.

Oh my heart is just broken. There can be nothing like the pain of the loss of a child.
But, I have to say, I feel most sorry for her poor, poor brother. How will he ever be able to live with this? It’s such a tragic accident that could happen to anyone. I would never want to carry this burden. I hope they get him some help.
