Daughter of Stephen Curtis Chapman Killed

The five-year-old daughter of contemporary Christian music star Steven Curtis Chapman was killed last night by a car driven by her teenage brother in the driveway of the Chapman family’s Williamson County home in Tennessee.

Maria, Chapman’s youngest of six children, was playing in the driveway when she was struck by a Toyota Land Cruiser. Several members of the Chapman family witnessed the accident.

A statement on Chapman’s website says, “Maria was rushed to Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital in Nashville, transported by LifeFlight, but died of her injuries there.” Fans have been leaving their messages of condolences on Chapman’s official MySpace page.

Chapman and his wife, Mary Beth, co-wrote a song entitled “Maria” for his 1992 album, The Great Adventure. You can find the lyrics here.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Chapman family.

“I will be here” was a song that helped me through many difficult times. We can never make sense of tragedies such as these…our prayers thoughts, and love will be here for Stephen and his family.

comment #87 how rudely insensitive to say “he should feel lucky”. Tragedy is still tragedy the bible states there is a time for all things and the death of a daughter no matter how in line with God’s plan is still sad and is NOT a time to be feeling “lucky”. When tragedy strikes you let’s see how lucky you feel…

I am so sorry. I know the anguish you must be feeling. I backed over our two year old son 15 years ago. I am praying that the Holy Spirit will comfort your hearts and give you peace beyond comprehension. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

Your family is in my thoughts and prayers. May God surround you with love and peace.

To the Chapman family,
You are all in our thoughts and prayers. We are sorry for your loss. But you know that she is safe in the arms of our Lord. Lots of prayers to your son. You need to forgive yourself. It was an accident. Blessings

God will sipe every tear from thier eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the older order of things has passed away. Rev. 21:4
Father,
You are my eternal Healer.
Even now, you are facing a sorrow so deep, a loss so over-whelmining that you would despair of life if it were not for Your presence. You embrace me and keep me from freezing during the cold night of grief. You remind me that You are the Resurrection and the Life. You breathe renewed hope into my devastated heart. You give me the strength to go on with my life, knowing that You will never leave me. Amen We are praying for your entire family to help you through this trying time in your lives. I release God peace to your family in Jesus Name. Amen

With deepest condolences at this very sad time in your lives, may God’s grace and love give you strength to overcome your sorrow.

“O Merciful Father, whose face the angels of thy little ones do always behold in heaven; Grant us stedfastly to believe that this thy child hath been taken into the safe keeping of thine eternal love; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.” (BCP)

I have been avoiding to post my comment because this story makes me cry !

Your in my thoughts and prayers. Its hard to lose a loved one in an accident. I lost a loved one in an accident also, you just wish you had that one last moment with them to say good-bye. We just never know if we’ll see our loved ones from one day to the next. He has a plan for us all and someday we’ll all reunite with our loved ones in heaven. Its not your sons fault at all, if that hadn’t happened her life would have ended someother way. God knows when our time on earth must end. He now has a beautiful angel. Just cherish your son and love him all you can. Hold on to your memories!!!

May you find comfort in knowing that little Maria is in the arms of Jesus and one day you all will be with her again. My heart goes out to you and your family, Stephen. My prayer is that you all will find comfort and peace through your faith and that your poor son will also find peace and learn to forgive himself as this was a tragic accident. God bless you all.

you and your family are in my heart and prayers

our hearts and prayers are with you and your family

I am so sorry for your loss. I know how it feels to lose someone you love. My little cousin, 13 years old, was killed in a car wreck earlier this week. She was practically my sister. God will be with you through this time of tragedy and pain even though it may seem like He is so distant. Y’all are in my prayers.

I grew up listening to your music and i just want you to know that your music made a huge imact on my life. I can’t even count how many concerts i went to. I know it’s going to be hard to get through this but remember that God is always there for you, even in the darkest hour.

May peace be with you and your family.

My thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family at this time, i too have enjoyed and been blessed by your music over the years, and unfortunately i’ve dealt with the loss of a child as well, and with God’s help we got through it… I pray the same for you all. Such a tragic accident.

You and your family are in our prayers. This too shall pass…..Time has a way of healing people and heartbreak. May the Holy Spirit comfort you all

Hi. I don’t even know the Chapman family but I want to send out my sincere condolences for the loss of Maria Chapman who will be dearly missed I’m sure. This will surely take a while to overcome but Maria is in a better place now. In God’s hands.

There are lessons for all of us in the Steven Curtis Chapman double tragedy where the youngest son accidentally kills the youngest daughter. How do you deal with such grief? With faith, hope, love, laughter. Laughter, yes. That explains my essay, which if you wish, you can read here: ‘Good Grief! Steven Curtis Chapman, please don’t be Sue-sad’ (http://frankahilario.blogspot.com/).

My heartfelt prayers go out to your whole family. My oldest son ran completely over my youngest son when he was 3 and my son lived. Sometimes in times like this we cannot see past the pain and hurt, but there is something good God will make out of Maria’s death. My heart goes out most to her brother, my eldest is changed forever because of this as will he be as well. I pray for peace that passes all understanding. God be with you!

awwww thats so sad!!! the driver will live with the guilt the girl didnt even live her life and the family just lost their youngest :( so sad!
