Zac Efron - MTV Movie Awards 2008

The High School Musical star didn’t walk the gold carpet but accepted the award for Breakthrough Performance for his work in Hairspray. Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs and Lindsay Lohan presented the award.

Well, you know what. Neither teens nor tweenies nominated Zac for this award. Someone on the MTV nominating committee felt he deserved to be nominated.
And what a lot of people don’t realize is that a lot of us older fans had a BIG hand in Zac winning this award. Probably a lot more than the teenie boppers did.
People can moan and complain all they want. He won. And his fans voted for him. Doesn’t matter how young or old they are.

Yeah, Karen, he does!!! Besides congratulations, didn’t you all think he looked great too? I loved that suit, without the tie look. Very cool, very sophisticated for his age. Only one thing, his eyes looked WAY TOO BLUE!!!! LOL

OK, all you moaners and groaners who want to say all kinds of bad things abou t Zac winning—how would ANYONE win if they didn’t get votes? Do you know how stupid you sound when you say he only won because all his fans voted for him? Of course that’s how he won! That’s how EVERY winner won in their catagory. And in Zac’s catagory he happened to get the MOST VOTES—meaning more VOTERS wanted him to get it rather than the other people in that catagory. SO, get over it. People are so resentful. He was humble and surprised he won. He did nothing wrong to anyone, not did he do anything that should make anyone angry. Some of you may have wished someone else would have gotten it but just because they didn’t doesn’t give anyone the right to say insulting things about him because he did win.

Totally agree Zac just like the other’s that were nominated had done his job and deserved to be in it as much as the other’s and that’s how it has always gone vote’s decide who get’s the award, all these people who say other’s deserved it more is wrong and I wonder just how many of these people even bothred to vote for other people, I’m guessing not many this is just another excuse for them to have a go at Zac, I’d love to see them do 3 movies back to back like Zac has, he’s putting in the work so why should’nt he be rrewarded for it. I don’t agree with some saying that it’s a pity he did’nt share the award with Nikki why should he she was also nominated and obvioulsy did’nt get enough vote’s whereas he did so why should he share it with anyone.

My daughter said the same as you,HSM for one was’nt a big theatre release in the begining but that’s was got put in the spotlight but HS was his first big theatre release that was not connected to HSM so in that sense HS is his breakthrough from being a teen idol to a more adult role, like the MAOW and 17 Again there more for a adult audience but Zac’s true fans will still go and see them, I know my daughter and I are and of course HSM3.

I agree. And his eyes were way too blue! I love his suit: basically, I love when he wears blue and I think I was a bit bored of his black outfits lately. And the lack of a tie made him look more bohemian and cool.
By the way, it seems that the “shiny” suits are reserved for MTV appearances. Have a look at his grey suit from last year (06/03/2007):

I love these shiny suits because they seem to match his bright personality. (And his eyes and face glow during these events, especially when there is a certain someone by his side who is really proud of him…)
i believe he said he buys all his suits from the salvation army in downtown los angeles…he has a social conscience so i beleive him…

midnightwonder - I totally thought about the shiny suit thing too! :lol: But, Zac has that quality that some people just really do…he wears his clothes well. :-D
Thanks to Karen and everyone else who pointed out the ridiculousness of lamenting that he just got more fan votes…and for also pointing out that fans didn’t initially nominate him for the award. But, you know what…that’s just a sour grapes thing to say…here’s the thing…if Zac has gained this huge worldwide fanbase and if said fanbase got him this win, well, that’s still a Yay, Zac! He has to be pretty darn awesome to have so many fans…and before anyone goes there, yes, he’s gorgeous, but many are…there’s something more there…his talent, his charisma…my mother does not want to jump his bones, but she enjoys his movies…my husband certainly doesn’t and he clearly admits the guy’s talented and appreciates how down to earth he seems. The five-year olds certainly don’t have the hots for him, so it’s an all around appeal. Can fans of all ages, from all different backgrounds, from all over the globe, who have never met really all be wrong? He has clear talent and charisma and a bright future, which is why we can all see it. Kudos, Zac! Am so looking forward to seeing where your career leads in the years to come!
So with you, Zac Fan! I mean for people like Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise to be around so long they had to have many things going for them like looks, talent, charisma, likability, etc. THAT’s how actors get to be “stand outs” after they became “break outs”. Nobody really talked about Brad’s acting talents when he first was seen on the primetime soap Dallas but he quickly made his mark. Just because Zac is attractive doesn’t mean he doesn’t have talent or other things that will make him a big star throughout the years. I just hope he keeps the same level head he possesses now.

ZacFan and midnightwonder, :o) I may be old, but I am DEFINITELY not blind. I’m glad someone else appreciates the “finer things” about Zac!!
I also think it’s sour grapes on the part of people who are whining about Zac getting too many votes!! Wasn’t that the whole purpose of an online ballot…voting??? That is such a laughable complaint!!

Yes, go sox, I did notice how good Zac looked. That handsome face, those gorgeous eyes, and that fine build he has. I thought he looked so fit as he walked up on that stage. He was so perfect. You could tell how unbelievable it all was for him. I loved his thank you to the fans who he added “…without you I couldn’t break out of anything.” So cute and appropriate for that speech at that time.
