Zac Efron - MTV Movie Awards 2008

The High School Musical star didn’t walk the gold carpet but accepted the award for Breakthrough Performance for his work in Hairspray. Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs and Lindsay Lohan presented the award.

Hi everyone, I am soooo proud of Zac. He really is a classy guy!
Hi Narf, Go Sox, Karen (my fellow angels) and all supporters of the
breakthrough performer of the year, none other than Mr. Zachary David Alexander Efron. Wow, he certainly lit up the TV screen and totally rocked the blue suit. I don’t think he could look much better, but it certainly didn’t hurt to have his favorite accessory on his arm, Miss Vanessa Hudgens. Gotta love this couple! Congrats Zac!!!

Zac Fan:
I can’t stop looking at the video where it shows in in the audience when his name is announced and the look in his eyes is priceless. Truthfully he looks like he went into shock. At first he barely responds when Vanessa puts her arms around him and gives him the kiss on the cheek. It’s like a movie moment but this is really happening and he isn’t faking it because his eyes are telling it all. Plus, if you click on picture #4 and enlarge it, that look is still there in his eyes as Lindsey hands him the award. I laugh everytime I watch the video or see that picture but at the same time my heart goes out to him because he was sooo caught off guard and unprepared. When he said in an interview later that it was frightening, I think that’s exactly how he was feeling—it shows. He was also heard telling Vanessa “I was freaking out up there”. Well, Zac, my boy I think you better get used to it.
I know, Karen. I love that. And, I agree…I think a lot still freaks him out…and I think that’s a great thing…it’s what continues to show how humble he is and unassuming. Yes, he’d better get used to the accolades that are sure to follow him in life, but at the same time, if he retains a lot of that wide-eyed wonder, that’d be great. It really is such an endearing quality. :-)

I can’t believe people are actually complaining about Zac winning because he got more votes. That’s how it was set up, for the person with the most votes to win. Instead of trying to bring Zac down next time try voting for the one you want to win. I’m happy my votes counted. Congrats, Zac you deserve the win. He was the biggest “breakout star” to me

It’s really sad that people had to find anything negative about Zac’s deserving and winning this award! As far as his acceptance speech, I thought it was perfectly said. Let’s keep in mind what the award is…an MTV Movie award, not an Oscar, Emmy, Golden Globe, etc. I think what he said, thanking the people DIRECTLY associated with Hairspray including Nikki, those who took a chance on him for the role,and the fans who voted for him was PERFECT. This was NOT an award to thank every creature on the face of the earth, God, his parents, his girlfriend, etc. THAT would have been really tacky!!!!!
I’m sure he feels grateful to his family and Vanessa for all their support and tells them often. I just think for a short acceptance speech, he thanked who he needed to and was perfectly gracious and certainly appreciative!!
Did anyone notice how many times Zac and Vanessa were shown during the MTV awards? I don’t believe anybody else was shown on camera as many times as they were. Of course, when you look as good as either of these two young people it is hard for others not to notice.

Completely agree, go sox! Seriously, given the “that’s what she saids” and all the other antics (which I loved and am not knocking) at the MTV awards, Zac waxing poetic about his love for his girl, his family, his very breath, etc. would not have been appropriate. He thanked Vanessa before he went up on that stage and I’m sure he thanks his loved ones on a regular basis for all their support. He just seems like that kind of guy.
Karen - yes! I could not get over how many times they were shown. It just made the awards that much better for me…it was great seeing those flashes to them…you could tell they were really enjoying themselves and that just warmed my heart…probably the camera man’s too. LOL.
Ok, Karen and Zac Fan, I only saw them flashed once!! I guess I should watch again!! Must have been when I was switching between the awards and the Sox game…..bad girl.
My country is very small and the people around here know almost nothing about Zac and/or Vanessa. So imagine my excitement when in the evening news Zac and Vanessa were shown as the ‘most powerful A-lister young couple of Hollywood’. And no matter that the news was about MTV Movie Awards in general, they didn’t show Will Smith, Johnny Depp or P. Diddy (they are bigger stars here), the clip was only about them. I was sooooo proud!!! And they looked sooooo good in big screen. (It’s funny but besides HSM1&2 and Hairspray, I’ve only watched YT videos about them that were mostly blurry.)
midnightwonder, that must have been exciting for you!! I guess we don’t always appreciate how quickly we get news here. But I love the fact that they were called a “powerful A-lister young couple”. And they’ve become comfortable with that….not pretentious, keeping to themselves as much as possible, and not at all like Heidi and Spencer.
They most certainly seem to be being taken seriously these days. I was getting so tired of some of the entertainment news shows—although covering them—making it sound more like “it’s such a sweet little thing” like they weren’t worthy of serious consideration simply because of their age. I think they may be getting ready to put their stamp on a lot of people’s minds. Unfortunately that will probably only bring more resentment and/or jealousy from certain types.
I agree, Karen. They are also going about their relationship their own way, and keeping the public’s noses “out of it”, as Zac once said. As long as they continue to keep the world OUT, they’ll be fine. We can see they love and support each other in a way that’s beyond their years in maturity. The way Zac was at the awards tells me he is happy, supported, loved, and confident. I’d say things are working well for him!!
Well, go sox, because it was the Sox, we’ll forgive you. ;-) Check out 1) when the two guys win best fight, 2) during the Wayne’s World skit, 3) during the Duane Johnson, Steve Carrell, Anne Hathaway humorous bit, 4) when Johnny Depp wins (I think the first time), and of course you’ve seen the fabulous part where Zac won. LOL!
Oh, midnightwonder, that’s so exciting! I’m glad they were recognized like that. They deserve it. Thanks so much for sharing that!
I agree with Karen and go sox, and I think Zac and Vanessa are growing as a couple and seem most happy when they are not constantly hounded by the paps. I’m sure their time together after being apart, and the low key lifestyle in Salt Lake City have helped a great deal too. If and I say If, they were to settle down , I would not in the least be surprised if they moved out of the LA area. THey both really hate the paps and Vanessa stated in one of my daughter’s teen mags( though they are not always reliable) , that things are different in LA. She will really miss her time in Salt Lake City.
I do remember reading recently that there was speculation that Vanessa may have bought a house in the LA area though. Does anyone have any further info on this? Thanks.
