The only good interviews that I can remember was with Anderson Cooper, Marie Claire, Backstage, Readers Digest and the photocalls in Cannes this year and last year. At this point Brad should interview Angelina and Angelina should interview Brad and post them on JJ LOL!!

I totally admire Brad and Angelina, but I must say on the question of religion they are somewhat misguided. Religion is not about a holiday. (Athought the majority of North Americans treat it as such). It is first of all spiritual, an all-encompassing truth that guides one very belief in one’s existence. It manifests itself in a tenet, a belief system that guides every facet of ones life. It provides the principles for living ones life. And its not Angelina’s fault that she doesn’t understand that….Angie was raised in Hollywood where religion is all about christening, funeral service and the holidays in between.

Ethiopians do celebrate Christmas and a large percentage are Christians. This Kwanza thing is more a secular holiday, not religious and certainly not endemic to Ethiopia. But Zahara will learn that when she starts to study religions.

So I’m happy the kids will be learning about the religions themselves as it is obvious Angie has got not got a clue. And that is not really her fault, like many in her social bracket and age group she was raised outside organized religion and Hollywood is not exactly the place to learn religion.

But Brad should know better. And the grandparents certainly know better. But this is not their call.

The important thing right now is the kids have a happy homelife and belong to a loving family. Another key thing about family is that set of shared values and principles which the parents impart to their children from an early age. This is what binds people together - shared values. The children are already separated by so much, if they do not have a shared set of values(religion) they will feel like a hotch potch of kids living together but not really a family.

If parents do not impart values to their children, outsiders will do it for them and the kids will fall for anything. Obviously this is not a traditional family and I hope they work it out early as this will be critical for the kids emotional and spirtual well-being.

A Dubai-based developer has hired BRAD PITT to be on the design team for a huge hotel and resort being billed as a world model for environmental sustainability.

“Mr. Pitt’s involvement in the cutting-edge design for the resort demonstrates his deep-seated interest in the project,” said a press release from the developing firm, Zabeel Properties.

The luxury resort builder also confirmed the appointment of the Los Angeles-based architecture firm GRAFT, which will incorporate Pitt into its design team. The complex will include an 800-room five-star hotel that will be used to host glamorous events and award ceremonies.

Pitt, who is currently involved in building 150 new affordable and sustainable homes in New Orleans for residents devastated by Hurricane Katrina, said he looks forward to the new building challenge.

“Selecting this development as my first major construction project has been a simple decision. It will underpin not only my values for environmentally-friendly architecture, but also embrace my career in entertainment.”

Funny how two people can read the same passage and get an entirely DIFFERENT meaning…how is Brad using her ‘alias’ when contacting her at a hotel she stayed at somehow made into a time he shouldn’t have been calling? Most celebs (specifically A listers) give an alias in an effort to be incognito, slip in and out as unnoticed as possible. It doesn’t have to be anything related to anything improper happening. It’s not like he would call and say ‘can you connect me with Shiloh Baptist’s room, this is BRAD PITT’….the hotel worker wouldn’t know his voice or know who it was calling for the person in that room LOL Use your brain HAHAHAHA

I like what Angie said about Brad in the interview. She really loves him and admires him. I love the following quotes from her.

Are you reading what she said? No where in this interview did she she verbalize she met him and instantaneously saw him as a father for her child. What seems to be clear to me is she wasn’t looking at him as someone she would be with (an actor, famous, etc) and was looking at a different type of guy that was more in line with the humanitarian work she does. She met Brad and over time determined he might fit the bill, which was surprising to her obviously as he wasn’t the type of guys she saw herself eventually being with.

Kinda blows holes in the theory she ‘chased’ or ’stole’ him doesn’t it? If he wasn’t what she was looking for, how could that be true she went after him? It’s obvious, Mr. Pitt was the pursuer and had to show parts of himself to her to make her look at him differently. It appears his choice to do that was the best thing that ever happened to both of them :)

To Pendant: About Guns and Angelina:

(1) I don’t know why some people think that being a humanitarian is incompatible with being an advocate for guns. when the UN sends in a peace keeping force, they are armed to enforce the peace or at least to defend the innocent. Ask any Allied soldier in Iraq and he will tell you that he believes that he is defending his country, he is bringing democracy to Iraq, and generally trying to enforce the peace so that people may live together and grow. Angelina is a humanitarian, but ain’t no pacifist. Killing for self defence is entirely legitimate.

(2) Angelina is American and in America, guns are very much part of the culture and way of life for a very significant percentage of the population. I remember 10 years ago, talking to some american colleagues (well travelled engineers, accountants and people you’d never describe as rednecked). More than half assured me that they owned one or more guns - just for hunting purposes - as if that was supposed to make me feel better that these guys found pleasure in killing bambi and his mummy.

(3) Angelina is part of hollywood. Hollywood responds to culture and also shapes culture. hollywood makes a lot of movies where people run around shooting at each other and blowing things up. I mean, for heavens sakes, some people are still wanting Dirty Harry to make their day. It’s not as if Hollywood really make kung fu movies like they do in Hong Kong with lots of kicking and magic and flying and NO GUNS. Angelina is in movies where she runs around and shoots people and she likes being in some of those movies. Angelina isnt going to be a hypocrite and then turn around to her children and say “oh, guns are bad bad bad”. You can expect a far more nuanced and reasoned response from her.

(4) having said all of the above, I used to criticise the American gun culture but I’ve since stopped after my discussion with my american colleagues. Because these american colleagues asked me if I watched the shoot em up movies - and I do, I enjoy them immensely. What are these movies if not a glorification of guns and arms and weapons of all sort?? So, am I not part of the culture that glorifies guns and blowing up things? I watched ironman, I watched Indiana Jone, I watched men in black, and on and on it goes. I’ve lost count. I’ll be watching Wanted. They all involve guns, weapons and blowing people and things up. Plenty of stunts and violence.

(5) We could of course, ban our children from watching any gun fights, any movies or cartoons where guns are used. But I wonder if that is a good idea and if it would make any difference. I grew up in south east asia we didn’t have TV until I was 7 or 8. And yet, :lol: I spent many a happy afternoon playing “guns” and “fighting” with my male cousins. I remember back in the 60s, my male cousins had these toy guns in which you’d insert a thin roll of paper which had dots of gun powder. Everytime you pulled the trigger, the roll of paper would unspool and if hammer hit one of the dots of gun powder (which they did half the time), you’ll get a loud bang and smoke will appear from the gun. loved those because they were sooo real.

Personally, I think that it’s better to educate our children, not with absolutes but with the nuances. If you are american, the nuances may be challenging when that nice Mr Smith who coaches little league and is so kind and funny, also happens to own 3 guns - for hunting and when you just took them to see Iron man last week. But clearly, to recoil in horror at your child delighting in playing guns seems to be an over reaction - rather like prohibiting your children from eating any sweets or junk food. All it will probably do is cause your child to have eating disorders later in life.

Brad Pitt to Help Design America-Themed Dubai Hotel (Update1)

June 2 (Bloomberg) — Brad Pitt, the star of “Fight Club” and “Ocean’s 11” who professes a passion for architecture, will be a design consultant for an 800-room hotel and resort Zabeel Properties plans to build in Dubai, the developer said.

Zabeel, based in Dubai, hired architecture firm Graft LLC to design an America-themed hotel in the United Arab Emirates city, the closely held developer said today in a statement. Los Angeles-based Graft, which has worked with Pitt on rebuilding efforts in New Orleans, will include the 44-year-old actor on its Dubai design team, Zabeel said.

“Acting is my career, architecture is my passion,” Pitt said in the statement. As “my first major construction project,” the Dubai hotel will feature “environmentally friendly architecture, but also embrace my career in entertainment.”

Detailed plans for the hotel and resort will be made public in the next few months, Zabeel said. The developer didn’t give the project’s exact location or say how much it would cost to build.

The company’s properties comprise about $5 billion of residential, commercial and hotel projects, including Tiara Residence and Tiara Hotel, which are part of the Palm Jumeirah artificial-island development.

Graft is one of the architecture firms Pitt began working with in 2007 to rebuild New Orleans’s Lower Ninth Ward neighborhood, which was devastated by Hurricane Katrina in 2005. Pitt’s New Orleans-based Make It Right organization is working to build affordable homes in the area.

Pitt has long been an admirer of Scottish architect and designer Charles Rennie MacKintosh and American architect Frank Lloyd Wright, BusinessWeek magazine said in a 2005 profile of the actor. He became friends with Frank Gehry during a home- renovation project in 2001, and studied computer-aided design at the architect’s Los Angeles offices, the magazine said.

It’s about being physical and jumping and running and being violent, and instinctively I knew I needed to do that.”

On Brad

“After my last divorce, I said I was absolutely going to marry somebody in another field, an aid worker or something. Then I met Brad, everything I wasn’t looking for, but the best man, the best father I could possibly wish for, you know? I don’t see him as an actor. I see him very much as a dad, as somebody who loves travel and architecture more than being in movies.”

On Brad passion

“He just has an eye for it,” she said. “You hear people talk about design or buildings, and assume, especially when somebody has another career, ‘Oh, that’s a hobby.’ Like somebody coming into money appreciating Picasso. But I have seen him design, with his partners, everything from hotels to studios. Or in New Orleans, with other architects, re-doing a shotgun house with green architecture, bringing light in, angles of the sun in summer and winter, how that would affect the rooms. He’s taught me so much about the homes we live in.”

On paparazzi or tabloid

“It’s our media,” she said. “People always slow down for a train wreck. It’s like junk food. If you don’t feel good about yourself, you want to read crap about other people, like gossip in high school. You don’t understand why it’s there, but somehow it makes a lot of people feel better.

“In my father’s generation, the product was 80 percent of what you were putting into the world, and your personal life was 20 percent. It now seems that 80 percent of the product I put out is silly, made-up stories and what I’m wearing.”

On Parenting

“is how my mom raised me, which is to figure out who I was and try to enhance my individual personality and not get in the way of it.

“But I can really discipline the kids when I need to.”

On Kids

I asked if there is a special bond between a mother and a child she has carried as opposed to a child she has adopted. She said, “No,” thought a moment, then added, “I had a C-section and I found it fascinating. I didn’t find it a sacrifice and I didn’t find it a painful experience. I found it a fascinating miracle of what a body can do.”

Jolie has children from three continents—I asked if this was intentional.

“Yeah, absolutely intentional,” she said. “When I was growing up I wanted to adopt, because I was aware there were kids that didn’t have parents. It’s not a humanitarian thing, because I don’t see it as a sacrifice. It’s a gift. We’re all lucky to have each other.

“I look at Shiloh—because, obviously, physically, she is the one that looks like Brad and I when we were little—and say, ‘If these were our brothers and sisters, how much would we have known by the time we were six that it took into our 30s and 40s to figure out?’ I suppose I’m giving them the childhood I always wished I had.”

On adoption of Maddox

“A nurse came with Maddox and left 10 minutes after handing him over,” she said. “I stared at this little guy. I didn’t know what to do. I called my mom. I remember saying, ‘Do kids have 2 or 10 bottles a day? I’m at a loss.’ I had never babysat, let alone … ”

About Shiloh

“We were in this little hospital in Africa when Shi was born,” she said. “I don’t think there was anybody else in the hospital. It was just a little cottage, the three of us. It ended up being the greatest thing. We had wonderful doctors and nurses. It was lovely, very personal, all three in this sweet room. We had an American doctor with us, who had met the Namibian doctors, and they worked in tandem because it was a C-section and my first and we didn’t know the country. He spent a few weeks with us. There was only one pediatrician in town, and one anesthesiologist, who had to come in for that—you have to plan it.”

“Where does the name Shiloh come from?,” I asked.

“It’s a biblical name,” she told me, “but we didn’t name her for that. It was a name my parents almost named their first child—there was a miscarriage: Shiloh Baptist. Because my father had been shooting in Georgia and that was the most southern name [my parents] could come up with. It’s a name I always liked. I used to go under it in hotels: Shiloh Baptist. I’d gone under it when [Brad] called hotel rooms where I was staying.”

She spoke about religion—her mother’s religion, how she planned to raise her own kids. “[My mother] was Catholic but also a child of the 60s,” said Jolie. “She stopped going to confession at one point because she was having sex before marriage. To me, she represented what religion should be. She never preached. If things didn’t make sense to her, she never just accepted it. I had Communion, but she never forced me to go to church.

“Brad got me this great thing for Christmas. It’s a bookshelf that has a book on every religion. That’s how we plan to raise our kids. Teach them about all religions. They can pick one or be a student of all of them. We’ll celebrate Kwanzaa for our girl. We’ll celebrate moon and water festivals for our boys. We’ll take them to temples in certain countries. Also to church.”

On her late mother

As we spoke, the conversation kept cycling back to her mother, Marcheline Bertrand, who neglected her own acting career—she had studied at Strasberg—to raise her children, James and Angelina. She died in January 2007, of ovarian and breast cancer. She was 56 and had been sick for eight years. “And in those years,” said Jolie, “she met all my children, helped me be a mom, helped me grow into a better woman, and taught me about dying.”

Angelina’s mother, who, in the absence of Angelina’s father, became her compass and lodestar, was the unacknowledged presence at the table. The more Jolie spoke, the more certain this presence became. “When [my mother] passed, I realized that somebody who lives life with that kind of dedication to their family is the most noble,” she said. “I was aware of it growing up. I admired her. And I loved her. But in her passing she reminded me what matters. And what’s most fun—to put yourself aside for these other little people you’re raising.”

Jolie could not talk long about her mother without filling up and spilling over, without her voice creaking, without tears, real tears, flowing down her cheeks. “Mad always knew my mom was sick,” said Jolie. “So when it happened, I sat him down and I told him how some people believe there’s a heaven where everybody goes and is together again. And they believe it’s very white and beautiful. And some believe—he’d just seen Casper—there are ghosts who are people and they are always around. And some believe it’s a long peaceful sleep. When I told him, and I was crying, ‘Grand-mère died today, we won’t be able to see her anymore, but she’ll always be around,’ he said, ‘Like she’s here now? Like she’s in that chair?’ And I said, ‘Well, I suppose she could be.’ And he accepted it. It’s funny. It’s like we teach kids the things that we want to believe. Then we see that they have such beautiful faith and it helps them go to bed and we’re in the other room not sleeping well.”

Jolie was crying when she said this.

“I had to be responsible for getting the morgue to pick her body up,” said Jolie. “She was in Cedars [Sinai, in Los Angeles]. All I had to do is remind myself that she’s my best girlfriend and she’s not in any more pain. I’m so happy for her. As much as I miss her, I’m a good enough friend not to have wanted her to stay in pain any longer.”

Jolie stood up. “I have to use the bathroom,” she said. “It’s a great thing about being pregnant—you don’t need excuses to pee, or to eat.”

On her father

When I asked Jolie about her father, she said, “We’ve decided not to be public about our relationship.”

Then: “I will say we have spoken … and hadn’t spoken for six and a half years. Which is good. Or it needed to happen.”

Then: “We don’t really have a relationship, but we’re in contact. And wish each other well.”

Then: “I think we’ve realized there’s been too much discussion. Him discussing me publicly. I’ve had to comment on him. I think it’s best that, if we try to have any relationship in the future, we do it quietly.”

On Kids

I’m giving them the childhood I always wished I had.

“Artists raise their kids differently,” she said. “We communicate to the point where we probably annoy our children. We have art around the house, we have books, we go to plays, we talk. Our focus is art and painting and dress-up and singing. It’s what we love. So I think you can see how artists in some way raise other artists.”

On refuges

“I traveled to Cambodia for the first Tomb Raider,” she told me. “I got to this country and expected broken, angry people, and found smiling, kind, warm people. We were doing one shot, and they said, ‘Don’t move to the side, because there are mines over there.’ I’d go to the market and see the land-mine victims. That was one step in realizing there was so much of the world I was blind to.”

On Brad

“This was actually one of the things that brought us together,” she told me. “Though he wasn’t as publicly active, I found him to be very aware of the world, very curious, very compassionate. In his private way, he had been doing a lot. When we met, we realized our common goals were that we both wanted to be involved in the world and see what we could do. We have similar interests but different approaches. He’s more involved in rebuilding New Orleans, environmental issues, green sustainability. I am more refugees. But when it comes to common goals—orphans, orphans’ rights, children—we support each other. It brings us together and makes our relationship work.”

On gossip or tabloid

“I would never do that,” she said, “because I have good friends I would be reading about and I don’t want it even in my head … a negative fairy tale about somebody I like. I don’t want it in my thoughts. I owe it to them not to pay attention. I know it’s not true. Over 95 percent of what’s said about us is entirely untrue.”

Last night before i went to bed I posted something about the Jane Fonda rumor, but others were saying it was another actress - Stacy Pickern? - who had a bit part in the movie. The way she support Brad’s passion is simply romantic. Their love story really helps restore my faith in “soulmates”. She is truely an inspirational woman. Love her and her beautiful family.

While on paper, the subject of Wanted sounds dark and dire, Bekmambetov injected his wry and decidedly off-kilter sense of humor into the narrative. Jolie comments, “I like that this film doesn’t take itself too seriously…It’s a little more nutty and has a sense of humor about itself. It doesn’t pretend to be too cool and there is something textured, European and a little funky about it. Timur is a very focused, deep-thinking guy, and it’s cool to see him in the middle of a big Hollywood movie, bringing something to it that is unusual.”

#59: pinkrose, one thing I have learnt is that you can’t force religion down your kids’ throats. You can only do so much…some lead by example hoping it will stick or you let them figure it out for themselves but you just help steer them to the right direction.

PT, I’m pretty sure the pics of her with Marianne are at the mid-century house which is part of the Los Feliz compound. A magazine showcased that house and the grounds a number of years ago. The photos from that magazine spread are floating around the net. I believe that is the house they use as an office and for other business purposes. Pitt remodeled it into a modern wonder and it is spectacular. Not particularly child friendly but beautiful.

But that is the Malibu house all right in the VF pics. You can see that the clear railings and the location scenery in the background is that of the Malibu house. That chair she is lounging on - if it’s an original and if it’s theirs - is worth about $1.5 million.

Maybe they’re using this shoot as a well placed sales ad for the house.

Actually…the LAW has the final say. Once a LEGAL SEPARATION is filed, as it was in January 2005, then both parties are free to do whatever they want without the other person being able to use it against them in the divorce proceedings. Ergo…anything Brad did after the legal separation was filed is a moot issue. And after the divorce was filed on March 25, 2005 he was essentially a free man.

If these dipshits want to further analyze it, Brad’s divorce was officially decreed on AUGUST 19, 2005 with the final paperwork going through the court on October 2, 2005. However…both of those dates are simply the periods at the of a 4 1/2 year prison sentence. Once that legal separation was filed Brad’s actions was no longer X’s business - or her fans or the trolls’ or anyone else’s.

As to the article, I think she said some of the things she said on parenting with good intentions. I can see why some people think she’s coming off as pompous. But I would like to think that’s not really her personality.

I think the real problem is that she doesn’t have any close friendships with peer moms to know what’s typical in parenting or how women really feel about pregnancy and motherhood. I think she came off this way simply because she’s out of touch in that arena.

It’s like somebody suddenly showing up to a Sierra Club meeting, walking up to the podium and saying, “I am very concerned about this new concept of global warming and wanted you all to know that I started recycling last week. In my house, we do aluminum AND plastic. I think it’s important.”

Did you see the pix of her when she was 16 modeling that were all over the net? I think you can still find the video on youtube.
She looked exactly the same. The only time she looked different was during her drug user days or when she wasn’t eating and got all anorexic looking. She looked like crap during both times.

Yeah Just Jared, you’ve just made my day with this post :) Such a great interview! And wow, I was right, the pictures were taken when she was already pregnant and showing a little.

I never would have recognized her in that first photo with the green wig. She looks great and that’s the first time, that I actually think she and Shiloh look alot alike, usually, I think Shiloh is all daddy just with Angies lips (and perhaps her nose, a little too early to figure out I think).

Loved that quote about the religions, not to be preaching to the children, but educating them, teaching them openness and cultural diversity, and letting them make their own choices, and allowing them to be able to understand others of different backgrounds.

The competitive world of celebrity gossip reached its apex last week, when Entertainment Tonight confirmed on its website that Angelina Jolie had given birth to twins.
Another tabloid actually published the names of the two new additions to the Brangelina brood. There was just one problem:
No births had taken place.

Eventually, however, Jolie and Brad Pitt will welcome a pair of babies into their family and, when they do, TMZ is reporting that the bidding for the first pictures of these kids has reached $15 million.
“We’d love to see the photos in People. We wish the family well,” said a rep for People Magazine, while OK! acknowledged it would “foolish” not to make a play for the pics.

PT, I’m pretty sure the pics of her with Marianne are at the mid-century house which is part of the Los Feliz compound. A magazine showcased that house and the grounds a number of years ago. The photos from that magazine spread are floating around the net. I believe that is the house they use as an office and for other business purposes. Pitt remodeled it into a modern wonder and it is spectacular. Not particularly child friendly but beautiful.

No, the pix you’re thinking about that were taken for some house magazine were the house they live in now - the Craftsman style home that Brad had redone in a modernist style. Unless someone else knows otherwise, I believe that’s the house he gutted and rebuilt it for the kids when they came back from Namibia.. Brad has remodeled that sucker like 4 times.

As a matter of fact - Jared had a thread featuring the pix when they were reprinted in another publication in 2006. I remember that at the time we were even talking about it being funny that the pix were being reprinted because Brad was in the process of remodeling the house again - they had just retuned from Namibia and were living in the Malibu house - when that mag was published.

#274: an interview is a reporter asking questions with the interviewee answering them as best as they can. The interviewee does not make up the questions to be asked in an interview because it defeats the purpose of the said session.

They interview you and put you in their magazine to sell copies. If you were a boring interview, the mags won’t sell, will they? The more exciting and interesting you are, the more they go after you for interviews. Alas! Angie is what people want to read about so here we are, getting an interview with beautiful pics to accompany said article. She’s also got movies coming out so it is only natural for her to be featured in leading magazines and newspapers and BECAUSE IT IS HER JOB!

It is not her fault that the reporters are more interested in her love life than in her movies. Most readers are actually still fascinated with what happened 3 or 4 years ago. It will still be a fascinating subject long after she’s had grandchildren with Brad Pitt. It’s a downside for being legendary.

When it comes to parenting, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt are nothing if not hands-on.

In terms of disciplining Maddox, 6, Pax, 4, Zahara, 3, and Shiloh, 2, the pregnant (with twins) Jolie, who turns 33 on Wednesday, tells Vanity Fair for its July issue that she operates on a rewards system, though admits, “You end up hearing yourself saying all those clichéd parent things: ‘I don’t care who started it, but I’m here to finish it.’ ”

In terms of day-to-day child-rearing, she presents the children with sticker stars that are redeemable for treats – thereby keeping them in line while also teaching them the tenets of capitalism. Besides, that method “is how my mom [Marcheline Bertrand] raised me, which is to figure out who I was and try to enhance my individual personality and not get in the way of it. But I can really discipline the kids when I need to.”

When it comes to professional caregivers, “We don’t ever have anybody spend the night,” she says. “We may have to adjust that when the next one comes. But we do have ladies that work with us, and they’re also from different cultures and backgrounds. One lady’s a Vietnamese teacher – wonderful. One is of Congolese descent from Belgium. Another is from the States and is really creative and does art programs.”

Jolie also says that the decision to have children from three continents was “absolutely intentional. When I was growing up I wanted to adopt, because I was aware there were kids that didn’t have parents. It’s not a humanitarian thing, because I don’t see it as a sacrifice. It’s a gift. We’re all lucky to have each other.”

Brad Pitt turns focus to Dubai
Actor joins luxury hotel venture
Brad Pitt has been bitten by the Dubai real estate bug.
Thesp is part of a team of consultants designing an 800-room, five-star hotel in the emirate, it was announced Monday by U.A.E.-based property developers Zabeel.

L.A.-based architecture firm Graft, which worked with Pitt on developing 150 environmentally friendly homes for families in New Orleans displaced by Hurricane Katrina, is designing the hotel and leisure development.

Work is already underway on the New Orleans properties with Pitt and producer Steve Bing both pledging $5 million towards the “Make It Right” project.

The Dubai hotel will be an environmentally friendly and socially conscious building. Its costs and construction dates were not revealed by Zabeel execs.

“While acting is my career, architecture is my passion,” said Pitt. “Selecting this development as my first major construction project has been a simple decision. You can expect something that is not only stunning to look at but will also be an incredible attraction to visit or stay at.”

A slew of U.S. film companies have already announced major real estate plans with U.A.E. property developers. Universal, DreamWorks Animation, Paramount and Marvel are all building theme parks in Dubai.
