Selena Gomez: No Sex Before Marriage!
Selena Gomez, star of the Disney Channel’s Wizards of Waverly Place, plans to practice abstinence until marriage, reports Extra.
The 15-year-old tween sensation, who’s on the fast track to becoming the new Miley Cyrus, has declared she won’t be having sex until marriage.
Selena declared, “I said, ‘Dad, I want a promise ring.’ He went to the church and got it blessed. He actually used me as an example for other kids. I’m going to keep my promise to myself, to my family and to God.”
All of the Jonas Brothers practice abstinence and wear purity rings.

That’s very easy to say when your 15 and have never ever had a intense relationship and lack the maturity and are still technically a child. But once you grow older and become an adult it’s not that easy especially if you are in a long term relationship and very committed to the person you love /care for a lot and it becomes much harder to keep a vow you made when you were a 15 year old child with no idea of what real relationships are like. I Also find it wrong to talk about whether a 15 year old remains a virgin as that is none of my business and she should keep all that stuff private. By talking about it she is inviting people to take an interest in her private sex life.

That’s what i said when i was 15. I’m 19 now and I have sex all the time with my boyfriend. You’re only a **** when you have sex with anyone and everyone. If you find the right person and you fall in love, why not? It’s fantastic and its a great way to connect with your partner. my boyfriend and i have so much fun trying new things together. Obviously its not appropriate at her age but (in my opinion), once you reach 18, do it with no regrets. Jamie Lynn is an idiot. My thoughts exactly, Go Sox. It is all very well to make promises but to make a public declaration like this, me thinks it is foolhardy. People will remember and hold you to it. I say, think carefully before you commit especially in one so young. It’s so easy to pay lipservice but to follow through is going to be a whole lot tougher especially when there are lots of temptations out there. It is fine to be a role model but to stay a virgin until marriage is like declaring I’m going to get married at an early age, because that is exactly what happened to Jessica Simpson and countless others. Anyway, I feel this is a personal thing that should be kept private and nobody’s business whether you’re a virgin or not. It should not be worn as a badge. To me, if there is a genuine love between two individuals, whether they choose to refrain or not is entirely their affair and noone else’s.
We should instill in our children the sacredness of their bodies and who to share it with and to respect and value themselves.

I think it’s fine when someone choses to stay abstinent until marriage but all this purity ring thing is ridiculous and those ceremonies where daughter promise to their fathers that they will keep their virginity almost seems like incest. A girl’s body and sexuality belong to her not her father.
It’s irresponsible too, kids see this stuff and it reinforces the notion that sex is dirty, they don’t tell their parents and are too scared to buy condoms, nature takes it’s course and they end up pregnant. People shouldn’t have to feel that sex is dirty.

jamey, when you’re a 15 yr old a promise/purity ring is not a sign of maturity. This is a misconception, it is as good as a boy giving a girl a class ring or an engagement ring. Somehow, I don’t hold much value to engagement rings which are just like promise rings which may or may not hold out in the course.
I believe maturity comes with knowledge,wisdom and how you handle yourself in situations. It would have been more appropriate for Selena or Miley to say that at present and at their age they do not believe in sexual promiscuity or having sex with their bfs or they would hold onto something they feel is sacred as long as they can until they feel the right person comes along or out of respect for their parents. Maturity is knowing that you may be too young to appreciate sex and what it stands for and the consequences of unprotected sex.

Sexual hormones start to come in at around 15 years old for girls and if she has these but still doesn’t want to have sex any time soon then I think she could wait. I mean, we all know Miley Cyrus wont save herself but I believe that she said that not because she actually believed she could save herself but because it promotes her good image which she (used to be) famous for. What I’m trying to say is is that 15 year olds are not as naive as everyone thinks. We think about sex, we know about sex and we know the temptations that lay before us. If Selena STILL doesn’t want to have sex with all these temptations before her then it’s pretty likely that she’ll be able to keep her promise. I’m not sure how old you are, but I’m guessing you’re probably older than I am because I’ve read some of your other comments on other posts. So that may have something to do with your point of view on this.
But what I think is that at age 15 girls are ready to make this kind of commitment. If they are serious about it, then they can keep it. That way they don’t have to worry about finding the right guy, because the right guy will be the one they’re married to. The purity ring isn’t a statement to other people, but more like a reminder to yourself. If you’re in a situation that may take a bad turn, and you look down at your hand and see it…if your heart is in the right place you’ll think about the man you’re going to marry someday and then make the right decision.
