OlderOprah Overpowers Brad and Angelina
Oprah Winfrey was ranked the world’s most powerful celebrity for the second year running in a new survey published by Forbes magazine on Wednesday.
Tiger Woods retained the No. 2 spot on the list, raking in $115 million on and off the course, while actress Angelina Jolie jumped to the third spot, combining $14 million in earnings with unequaled levels of fame while Brad Pitt rounded out the top 10 earning a cool $20 million.
David Beckham’s move to the US Major League Soccer team the Los Angeles Galaxy helped him shift into the top 10, taking fifth place with earnings of 50 million dollars, ahead of actor Johnny Depp in sixth.
Other notable mentions: Jennifer Aniston - No. 17, Miley Cyrus - No. 35, Jonas Brothers - No. 89

With the new EW feature on Angelina Jolie, she has shown once again that she’s a very good interviewee. She is only one of the very few if not the only celebrity I’ve known whose answers to every questions are always VERY CANDID, VERY INTERESTING, VERY SMART & VERY WITTY ALL AT THE SAME TIME & she doesn’t sound like she’s trying to impress the public or the readers at all. She is just expressing what’s on her mind. Direct to the point. She can answer or discuss WITH EASE a wide range of topics such as SEX, TATTOOS, MOTHERHOOD, WAR, PEACE, JUSTICE. Her SENSE OF HUMOR is really great, although she’s not trying to be funny. She’s just effortlessly keen-witted. It is said that people who have great wit are generally intelligent. And I really find her to be very brainy or smart, that’s why this is one of the reasons (among the 5Bs) why I do like or adore this woman a lot as what i stated on my previous post on another thread.

Well Oprah definitely deserves that number one spot! The woman really is powerful and has worked so hard. She is someone who grew up in a not so priveleged background and has proved that with hard work and determination you can do anything. Also congrats to Tiger Wood for his consistency. Its not fair comparison to actors and actresses, because their income are their gross salaries/talent fees from their movies and expenses are minimal.
So Oprah’s net income could probably be less than US$ 50 million annually. Since her Tv shows rating are falling and her magazine are not selling well, her costs must be considerable, squeezing her margins.

The Tiger Woods Learning Centre - a mammoth learning centre with a small golf course inCalifornia, in his old neighbourhood , provides after school learning for underprivileged kids - somewhere they can be while their parents are still at work or wherever, without getting in trouble. They learn all kids of sciences, math, golf etc. and they get career counselling and practical help in moving into careers. This is all funded by the TW Foundation. Tiger has three golf tournaments on the PGA schedule which fund his charities which include The Fist Tee Programme (another kid-centred program) which teaches life lessons through golf). Tiger announced last year, when he started the annual 4th of July golf tournament in D. C. , that the tournament will fund another learning centre on the East Coast, (Washington D. C.) for underprivileged kids. He also hopes to start one in South Africa some day soon.

It is my guess that he spends the bulk on say, the lease of their current home in France, their other residences, air travel (when not paid for by the studios) security and domestic staff. maybe all Angie has to do with her money is contribute to the trust funds and donate to charities.

How do they know what these people make? The fact is Forbes does not know what these people make. This is all guess work. And it’s pretty primitive guess work. That’s why obviously the arnings are but a small calculation in the rankings.
Many of these people also have highly lucrative advertising work overseas and Forbes doesn’t know how much that is. For someone like Pitt I’ll bet he makes $20 million or more on his ads alone. I have no idea what his production company makes for him and neither does Forbes.

I’ve come to find Oprah quite ANNOYING (..I used to be an admirer of Oprah’s)…and though I respect Oprah’s ‘hussle’ as a self-made black woman with money, power and charitable works…there are ALOT of things Angie can do and has accomplished that Oprah cant!…we really shouldn’t compare…
Angie has not ‘SOLD OUT’ like Oprah in order to make her millions. Angie has allways spoken her heart, good or bad, and has probably suffered for it. She would probably be number ONE on the forbes list if she had less controversial view as Oprah has had, and if she said all the things American housewives eat up….but our Angie’s ALWAYS been her own person. Oprah only just recently started deviating from what the status quo is, cause now she can. Angie has been living and speaking boldly whether she had influence or not.
Angie is an accomplished actress who has an oscar, as well as critical accolades and has earned millions in box office…
Angie is ALSO a self-made woman who carved out her OWN unique persona (sexy,humanitarian,EVOLVED, maternal, internationally known, outspoken,unusual,interesting,bold,ball-busting, bi-sexual, and beautiful artist.
Oprah has NEVER raised kids, and has NEVER been married. I think these two things help you to grow as a person. Oprah herself has said she doesn’t know how mothers do it. Angelina has not only taken on motherhood (biological and adopted…which must be hard), but she’s maintained her status as a sought after actress, a caring humanitarian, and a loyal supportive partner to Brad Pitt (Not easy, as others like Chinny & Gwinny have FAILED miserably in that position!).
Lastly, Angelina continues to amaze me with both her sensitivity to others, and her being able to maintain her ‘coolness’ as someone who is a GENUINE soul who also doesnt suffer FOOLS (or the Hollywood B*ll sh*t )gladly. If an interviewer asks her a question, she tries to answer it honestly…even if she knows her critics will tear her apart…
Angie would NEVER be as presumptuous as to take sides in a divorce the way Oprah has obviously done with Brad & Angie. She is also evolved enough to admit her past mistakes, while also being mature enough to still love and maintain a close friendship with her Exes.
While she was forced to break off contact with her father for her own peace of mind, you can tell there is a lot of love there (as much as there is pain), but she was stable enough to realize distance was the best thing for both of them under the circumstances, and I think she handled being betrayed by her father in the media very well. She’s talked about the people she loves, and has expressed her deep feelings for friends, husbands, lovers, her mother and brother alike….Oprah on the other hand rarely speaks about ANY of her family after being on tv for over 20 years! The one thing i disagree about Angelina stating in her interview is that:
If one met someone who was going to do horrible things, like Hitler, would you assasin them? And she said she would. I would not. I would lock that person up in jail or expose their plans to the world.
I would do no such thing. She also says that she has no “regrets” in life. Meaning, that even though she did weird things in the past, she does not regret one bit of it.
I believe that we have all made mistakes… terrible mistakes in life… but as a human being… I would never ty to kill someone just because I knew what horrible deeds they were about to do before they would do them. i would try to change them for the better. Or I would get them arrested.
But with the way officials are… people usually do not believe you when you tell them, and don’t care. You say “hey, i know a man who is going to kill thousands of people” and they will never ever heed your warning.
I’ve been in many situations where I have informed the police and officials of terrible things in my neighborhood, but they would not heed my warnings. In fact other neighbors went against me for telling them. I moved away and now those neighbors are suffering and the police are still just cruising by, not giving a damn.

Maybe people get more fame by doing outrageous things or go against the grain. Those are considered the strong people, even through out history, religion and philosophy. What matters is how you respect yourself. Not what others think. And you can’t hide. You need to face up to people when they question you and your decisions and your persona. You need to be open and honest. People should come out and speak for themselves and prove everyone wrong. Don’t listen to people who tell you not to fight for yourself. Maybe that’s why Jolie does not have a publicist and cut off her father. She does not want anyone telling her what to do, nor does she want anyone criticizing her. It’s very bad for the mindset and you live under fear, rather than making decisions that make you happy. There is no secret to success. Being successful is not making a high salary. Being successful is being successful, despite what money you make. If your goal is to become an actor, but because you think it’s a way to make millions, then you are hindering yourself. You are successful when you are happy with your decisions. You are successful if you are a determined actor, even if you are not making the amount of money you thought you could if you went into this field. People should not fear failure or fear what others think. Failure is the only way to move ahead. But don’t dwell on past failure and do not dwell on what other people think of you. Use failure to improve yourself to higher standards and use your own thoughts on what you think are higher standards. Not anyone else’s. That’s why I think it’s pathetic when people dwell on what other people say about them. Ignore it and do what makes you happy. Don’t question it and hide from it. Because that is the goal of those nay-sayers. Other people’s words can destroy you and you should just not respond to it or let it bother you. I think it’s pathetic when celebrities pay attention to negative press, negative bloggers or negative papparazzi or talk about them. Celebs are only succumbing to them and making them more popular, while making themselves more meager. Don’t blame others for anything. Just take responsibility and take a stand for yourself, instead of explaining away failures/downfalls/criticisms and blaming it on others. Actors/celebrities vanish very easily in this business. Once a celebrity has put him/herself out there, they need to accept the bad parts and not fall into the trap.
