Ok… I love Angelina, but I wasn’t sure if I was going to go see Wanted because it’s not really my kind of movie. But after seeing how much everyone enjoyed it and raved about it, I feel like I’ll miss a great experience if I don’t go, so I’ll go see it next week.

(CBS) With roles in films such as “Girl, Interrupted” (for which she won an Oscar) and her latest, “Wanted,” Angelina Jolie has attracted a host of admirers … and that includes our own David Edelstein:

Hollywood is full of swollen-lipped actresses, but Jolie has the spirit to match those tire-treads.

She burst out of the gate in 1998’s “Gia,” about the glowering supermodel who embodied a new kind of tough glamour and died of AIDS. I remember her blasting through a scene stark naked - sorry, folks, can’t show it! - and admiring her fearlessness more than her body, which is saying a lot.

But Jolie has so large a presence she doesn’t need to pull out the stops or take off her clothes. She can underplay dryly, toying with lines and co-stars, which is why she was so smashing as a sociopath in “Girl, Interrupted,” devastating fellow patients to keep from turning her acid gaze inward.

Jolie has taken other “serious” parts, like Marianne, wife of murdered journalist Daniel Pearl in “A Mighty Heart,” and she was very fine, tamping down the drama queen stuff.

But even dipped in caramel, she was still, obviously, Angelina.

Her greatest box office successes have been as witty action heroines, as in “Lara Croft: Tomb Raider” and “Mr. and Mrs. Smith” opposite honey Brad Pitt, whose hard shell of narcissism held fast against her incinerating stares.

“Wanted” is in the same mode, but more spectacular: It’s state-of-the-art state-of-the-art.

The plot is nonsense about a fraternity of supernaturally gifted assassins, a hodgepodge of “The Matrix” and “The Terminator.” But Kazakhstan-born director Timur Bekmambetov is a whiz at mixing fast- and slow-motion to screw up your biorhythms. You take an hour to come down and then say: I fell for that???

It’s easy to fall for Angelina. There she suddenly is, beside timid protagonist James McAvoy, looking amused, twinkling, as if the whole gazillion-dollar movie is her toy. The bullets she fires seem like extensions of her will.

Does “Wanted” stretch her as an actress? Not remotely. We’ll see that later this year, as the mother of a kidnapped child in Clint Eastwood’s “Changeling.”

What Jolie really needs to prove herself is material she can’t toy with, parts bigger than she is. Hedda Gabler? Cleopatra? God?

Besane - You’re so right about Angie’s body in that scene where she gets out of the healing tub. Her body looked perfectly proportioned and just stunning.

Here’s what one critic’s wrote:
“If, on the other hand, you have to ask why she’s here, you’ve never looked at Angelina Jolie. Just one fleeting glimpse of her naked, tattooed back as she walks off into the distance is enough in any film’s iconography to equal any six-minute stunt sequence.”

I’m one of those JP fans who normally would not go to see a movie like this, but because I’m a diehard JP fan I went and I’m so glad I did. I loved it and I’m going to see it again because it’s one of those films that needs to be seen on the big screen. Angie gave it the extra spice that made it really enjoyable.

Because everything about her is scrutinized, all aspects of her personality such as physically, spiritually, educationally/intellectually, socially, emotionally/ psychologically, professionally. In fact, she’s the only famous celebrity I know who is the MOST SCRUTINIZED by the public (media, fans, paparazzi, haters, trolls, peers, doctors, fashion experts etc).

Physically - From head to toe, every part of her body including mole, scars and of course her lips, eyes, eye brows, hair, head, butt, breasts, arms, legs, hips, skin, body , tattoos, hands, veins or even her uterus are discussed in every forum or blogs, polls, surveys, cosmetic surgery industry. Her fashion sense/ style is also looked at closely. Her shoes, her make-up/ lipstick, her bags, pants, dresses, accessories. People admire or criticize her but they don’t know that beauty is secondary to her. In fact, she finds flaws attractive.

Spiritually- She’s raised Catholic but she’s unfairly judged by some as atheist. Yet she lives her life full of Christian values. She respects & reads about other religions.

Educationally/ intellectually - Some people discriminates her not being able to finished her education yet she is smarter that most of us. People always find faults in her statements. Her every interview is taken out of context or misinterpreted or just taken as it is. Her thoughts and ideas are always in the news. Yet, people admire her especially when she lobbies for her causes.

Socially - Even the kind of people she associates herself with is also examined. Like who are her friends, or does she has friends at all. Some people do not know that she surrounds herself with good influences to her life from all walks of life like ordinary people, unfortunate ones, dignitaries, activists & principled people. Even her humanitarian work is investigated by some media people just to prove if she really is a “humanitarian”.

Emotionally/ psychologically - Her sanity is being questioned just because she’s different from what most people do or think. As what Angie said, “If being sane is thinking there’s something wrong with being different….I’d rather be completely f *** mental.” Or what her former co-star Giovanni Ribisi said, “The media promotes Angelina as an eccentric, like everything she’s into is so taboo and scary, but she is a hyper intelligent actress and totally honest woman who doesn’t happen to agree with middle-class status quo crap.”

Professionally - Her every performance of her movie is always scrutinized. Fortunately, most often, she receives a lot of praises in this area. The awards & accolades she gets from critics, peers, crews, writers, directors are oftentimes enough to silence the skeptics or cynics.

Congrats to Mama Angie, cast and crew and the director of WANTED for an impressive Weekend opening. WANTED had a per screen average higher than the little Robot that can. It is all good.
