Thierry Henry’s Showdown in Chinatown

French soccer/football player Thierry Henry plays at the Steve Nash ‘Showdown In Chinatown’ Charity Soccer Match in New York City’s Sara Delano Roosevelt Park on Wednesday.

NBA stars Jason Kidd, Raja Bell, Leandro Barbosa, and Baron Davis were also there to play and support the charity event.

When asked about if he would consider playing in the MLS, Henry said, “Why not? I love America. I love it here. And, whenever I come here, I feel free. Hopefully, one day.

“You never know what’s going to happen. But, at the moment, I’m still over there.”

Henry is one of the most talented, entertaining footballer ever! And he seems like such genuine person off soccer field.. find clips of him doing interviews; he’s so witty and funny!

He plays in the spanish championship, in the FC Barcelona team, and lately he hasn’t been so good. Rumors say he is really sad and deeply depressed because he barely sees his daughter since his divorce (people say his british ex-wife keeps the little girl away from him…)

He’s a FAR BETTER soccer player than Beckham, much more respected among his peers. The bonus: he’s less annoying than David and doesn’t have the fame-digging, useless wife.

I think Henry’s best years of footballing are behind him but he would be a good fit for MLS. I’d also love to see more soccer players on the site!

I find it amazing how America is ignorant of the rest of the world.
I mean, Thierry Henry is a global superstar, and we only know him from the gillete commericals. It would be awesome if he came here to the mls.

I love Henry, and given the racism he faces over in Europe, I would love to see him come over to the U.S. On the other hand, MLS SUCKS! David Beckham notwithstanding.

OMG thierry henry is one of the best player in the world, like Zinedine Zidane (even if zizou is better). But I don’t want to see Henry becoming like Beckam, he really deserves better.

I nearly cried when I saw that Becks was coming to America because I thought it was the end of his international career. Thankfully, he got his 100th cap, but no telling if he’ll be able to join the squad in WC 2010. I still thought he had a couple more good years of European soccer left in him, but perhaps the slower pace of the MLS has helped extend his club career, at least.

Maybe the same could be said for Henry and he should come to MLS. But, I wouldn’t want him to come until he can’t really perform in Europe. What’s so funny is that even though the MLS is becoming a retirement league for European players, they’re still some of the top players in MLS. lol
