‘Wanted’ Breaks Box Office Records

‘Wanted’ Breaks Box Office Records

The Angelina Jolie action thriller Wanted scored the best opening ever for an R-rated film released in June and the 6th best opening of all time for any R-rated pic, according to Variety.

The film, which also starred James McAvoy and Morgan Freeman, placed No. 2 at the box office this past weekend behind the endearing toon Wall-E.

At $23.1 million, Wall-E scored the biggest opening-day gross of all nine Pixar films and raked in an estimated $62.5 million for the weekend. Wanted soared beyond expectations, pulling in a whopping $51.1 million.

FYI: If you haven’t seen Wanted yet, you get to see Angie’s derrière in all its glory for a mere split-second.

The movie sucked!!!

# 3

The movie was not good at all and this is definently not an Angelina movie. She is not the star of it.

# 4

Well deserved Win! Look at the hater above—they are watching Angelina thread like a hawk, can’t stay away. She has so much power over you. Really pathetic, and funny haters.

# 5

Our girl Angie! She’s a true movie star!

Oh and I am sure Aniston wasn’t the star in the Rumor Has It, nor the Break Up.

A TRUE MOVIE STAR

lmao at the troll saying it sucked

Its a shame it didn’t go straight to dvd   that’s the difference between movie stars and sitcom k listers

WANTED wouldn’t have worked if it wasn’t for Angelina. Sorry haters, the reality really hurts you so.

With Angelina’s $15 million pay she more than delivered. Great job Angie!

It is A-W-E-S-O-M-E :D :D

Congrats to Mama Angie, the cast and crew and the director of WANTED.
AJ kicks some butts in the movie. James was good also. Morgan is the man and Common is sooooooo fine. WANTED is a fun-filled, action film. Get your popcorn and go along for the ride. Congrats also to WALL-E. Thanks for the new thread Just Jared.

It would be very interesting if they make a prequel instead of a sequel. I would like a movie just with Fox and how she joined the Fraternity of assasins, that would be really cool. However I heard she might be offered a role based on the true story of a CIA.

James McAvoy may have the lead in this movie, but make no mistake about the fact that it is just as much Angelina’s movie as his. McAvoy is not known for action movies, she is. Beyond that she has generated as much buzz if not more for this movie as he has. Take Angelina out of the movie, i’s not the same. Take James McAvoy out of the movie, you could find another actor to do his part. That is not to say he is not good in the movie, but he is not the only man who can do what he did in the movie. No woman does what Angelina does in an action movie. The only people who cannot see that with eyes wide open are haters. Whether you like this type of movie is certainly to each person’s taste, but to say it is not Angelina’s movie is just ignoring the facts. I’m willing to bet that neither SUCKED ( sounds like a good name for you) nor Tara have even seen the movie.

haters loosing it big time

Lillianne @ 06/29/2008 at 3:42 pm

OMG this is such a good movie. We have to go back and see it again because some of the things in the movie went by too fast.

A real thumbs up. And two different fingers up to the AJ haters!!!

CONGRATS ANGELINA! My chick did it again!

And I am loving the haters..fuel to the fire baby fuel to her fire!

So Wanted, Universal’s Angelina Jolie/James McAvoy starrer, debuted to $19.1M Friday and $17.5M Saturday from 3,175 venues for a $51.1M weekend. It marks a new franchise for the studio which expected only $35+M from this stylish summer actioner. It turned out to be the best June opening ever for an R-rated movie, beating Knocked Up’s $30.6M, and the 6th highest R-rated opening of all time (behind The Matrix Reloaded, The Passion Of The Christ, 300, Hannibal, and Sex And The City) and the 3rd biggest R-rated action film (behind The Matrix Reloaded’s $91.7M, and 300’s $70.9M). It’s also the biggest opening ever for a live-action Angelina movie and she proved a big draw: Cinemascore said the main reasons given for choosing to see Wanted were the action (67%) and Jolie (61%). Exit polling showed the audience breakdown was 52%/48% male to female, 51%/49% under age 30 to over age 30.

I have not seen the movie yet but looking forward to it….and I’m sure it’s a big hit …and yeah..i am a big fan of Angie……so haters out there; GET OUT!!!!!

That’s great!!!! Angie is perfect for this kind of role..she should play Nikita…by La femme Nikita…

Lillianne @ 06/29/2008 at 3:44 pm

McAvoy has a little grit there that’s very appealing. Much as I love pretty boys (Brad & Bex) I’m going to be watching McAvoy.

Wanted is on 800 fewer theathers than Wall-E. Angie of couse is responsable for that boxoffice success.

Timur is a great guy! He is from Russia like I am! =) I watched this movie on the first day so I think it’s not bad!

Lillianne @ 06/29/2008 at 3:46 pm

Sorry Morgan. You were awesome too, but you are always awesome.

Saw it Wednesday, loved it.
It rocks.
Haters shut the hell up!
It belonged to Angie AND James… and MF kicked **** too, as per! ;) :D :D

Box office Mojo figures through Saturday:

Wall-E

Per theater: $15,656.

WANTED
total take estimate $51,118,000
number of theaters: 3175.
Per theater: $16,100.

Wonder how our boy Sambo likes them numbers?

I am so happy for Angie and the numbers that Wanted pulled in. Big Congrats to Angie, James, Morgan, Common, the over cast members and the direct!

With Angelina’s $15 million pay she more than delivered. Great job Angie!

+++++++++++++++

It’s too bad Angie doesn’t get back-end participation the way Brad and so many of the male stars do. She could easily take in $50-75MIL for this movie. Maybe now that she’s proven she can deliver the goods in a more conventional action film she’ll be able to get that kind of a deal in the future. I’m not holding my breath, but it would be nice. With her giving away 1/3 of her income she could do a lot of good with that kind of loot.

Angie and her manager Geyer Kosinski bought the rights to the story of a former UN covert agent, not CIA, who busted one of the world’s biggest arms dealers. Paramount bought the option on it and now that the writers strike has ended I’m sure they’ve approached a few people about writing the first draft of the script. Maybe they’ll have a working draft of a script by the time Angie’s ready to go back to work.

Oh honey… I know how awful you must feel. Three smash hits in less than six months: “Beowulf”, “Kung Fu Panda”, and now “Wanted”. Meanwhile, you’ve been champing at the bit waiting for Jennypoo’s first movie in two years, “He’s Just Not That Into You”, to come out, only to find that the release date has been pushed back for the second time and now won’t come out until next February, if it’s released at all, because the advance buzz on the movie was so bad the studio is afraid it will tank at the box office so it may go directly to DVD.

Hang in there, honey, so we don’t have to put you on suicide watch. Poor Jennifer needs all the fans she can get, and she doesn’t have that many left any more.

GREAT NEWS!!!!

Congrats to all but mostly to Angelina Jolie.

You know what they said: people is not goingto see this movie because angie is in it but the truth is the exact opposite . It sucessed mainy because of her. My congradutation to angie and the whole cast.

6,000 children die every day in Africa just because of dirty water and X is pimping dumbwater. That’s just disgusting.

++++++++++++++++

“Digusting” and X go hand-in-hand. The other day I was reading a story on the late George Carlin and it talked about one of his latest routines and his disgust with the bottled water industry and in particular all these celebs being snapped with bottled water. He said, and I paraphrase, “When did we become so shallow that we had to carry around personal hydration systems? GET A DRINK BEFORE YOU LEAVE THE HOUSE!” I was ROTFLMAO, but at the same time I was thinking about the bottle of water I carry everywhere! LOL. It’s just a Propel Fitness Water bottle filled with tap water…but still… I DID buy the bottled water. I bought it for the bottle not the water…but…in the end…I STILL bought the bottled water. I think it’s time to go to Wal-mart and find a sports bottle or something like that.

I agree with not exagerating the expectation for the birth of the babies. It is great that they are having them and all, but the craziness and publicity is too much, they do not get to live more normal lives due to this.
I hope they are healthy babies and an easy delivery, they deserve that since they are good persons who do a lot, but the tabs and papz are feeding and milking this for their own benefit.
Congrats to Wanted, and I’m still expecting it in my country!

Cant wait to see it!

it’s an awesome action movie with an awful plot, i mena really really horrendous, way stupid

83rd!!!! Loved the movie. Love Angie. Love Angie Love Angie Love Angie. Enough Said!!!!!!!!!!!

OMG!!! This is fantastic!!! I love love love this movie, and I love Angelina! And haters - they can not stand the fact that Angelina is true movie star! And that Aniston is the worst actress in the world, and that her movie is going to be on DVD!

Angelina was ok in it, but this was not her movie. It belongs to James. He ruled in every scene he was in.

Great looking movie, can’t wait to see it next week.

Angie is beautiful.

Hold on, Angie! I’m getting there as fast as I can! Tonight at 9:30. Hope my ticket counts for the week-end.

Hi to fans. So happy we can celebrate this success.

wobbler30, why would you think Brad fans would be upset or feel slighted? I promise that is not the case at all. Brad and Angie add to one another’s fame and fortune, never otherwise.

Good afternoon to all the BAMPZS+2 fans. bdj, are you going on vacation for two weeks? Please know I will miss your informative articles. One of the reasons I enjoy JJ is amongst all of the AJ/BP news and the troll b*llsh*t information/news is dispensed. I know you are not the only one sharing info. But you are the most consistent.
Oh I am sorry. Happy birthday vickiefromtexas.

guli, you will be leaving in a couple of days also? I pray your vacation goes well and you have a good time. Who will post videos when you are gone? MF seems to be missing in action. Preggy Jolie no longer posts. We don’t even get pictures like we use to. Lady G was great at posting pictures. I miss the videos and the pictures. IMHO they help to brighten up the thread and help to break up some of the silliness from the trolls.

I hope the videos makers will return as well as the picture posters. IMHO the thread use to be a good mix of information, opinions, creativity, and supporting the joliepitts. We don’t have to defend as strongley as we once did because, the world is beginning to see what we saw lo those four years ago. These little trolls that still post here on a daily basis are the scum at the bottom of the pond. They should be ignored and never mistaken as a challenge for intlligent discussion.

I am so happy for Wanted. $51mil and Wall E only about $10mil more even though it played in more theaters and had a G rating. Wanted wasn’t even listed on some of the most anticipated movies for summer lists.

I am sure it surprised some people, but not Angie’s fans. I think we all knew or at least felt it would do well. How many dollars? I don’t think any of us attached a dollar amount to it. But we knew it would do well. Two movies in the top 5. What female star can say that? Maybe there is one who also had two top 5 hits, but can’t recall who it was. If anyone knows please tell me as I would like to know also.

Well maybe in the next couple of weeks we will have some more good news. Maybe the twins will be here and will we have to come up with a new name. Challenges never cease. This is going to be good summer for BAMPZS+2 fans. Plus Brad has the Venice FF in August. If Angie is well she will probably go which will mean more pittp*rn and more photo ops.

Oh, I just want to add this. Don’t you think Angie would make a good director? It was her idea give Fox less dialogue. Also the director said she had some good ideas about the character. Also didn’t Brad say that she helped with some of the editing in TAOJJ? And in MMS she had some ideas and suggestions. I just think she seems to have an instinct for what makes a movie works. Just an opinion. Peace

Mrs. Lenny @ 06/29/2008 at 4:41 pm

~Awesome. I enjoyed every second of Wanted. I will see it again with my husband. I saw it with my Hen friends hahahahhaa, We were six deep. And all of of us enjoyed it . Angie was Killing. Common,Common, cumming, all of us agree that he is a hot piece of work.
Peace~

I saw the 10:40 showing this morning and it was packed. I loved it and so did everyone else. The litte boy sitting in front of me was having the time of his life.

I am so glad Wanted did great at the box office.
The people who live to hate Angelina are SO predictable. If Wanted had done badly it would have been all Angelina’s fault. But since it did really well they are delusional and think the success has nothing to do with Angelina.

BTW - here’s how you can tell Ted’s BI that not so blind is obviosly supposed to be Angelina ain’t true…Michael Musto of the Village Voice has NEVER had this BI. And that guy knows EVERYTHING. If it’s smut, Musto knows it. A few months back he did a column that had like 40 BIs in it. He’s got a way of wording them that’s hilarious. Like Ted he’s gay…but he doesn’ feel the need to do all that cutesy made-up-words shite. Musto’s got connections on both coasts and knows more dirt than just about any gossip around. And while he can be mean and biting…he’s courted sought the spotlight the way Ted does. So if Musto ever has a similar BI…then you’ll know it’s true. Otherwise it’s just Ted being mean because the J-Ps kick his ass by disproving every piece of garbage he’s ever written about them. B#tch is bitter like a mofo.

…………………….

So if Musto comes out with a similar BI, you would believe it then? I don’t really believe in BI. I ran into that Ben W. guy few years back and I asked him about it and he said most of the time he makes it up to fill the space and he exaggerates alot.

+++++++++++++++++

Will I believe Ted’s BI if Michael Musto comes out with a similar one? Uh…no. What I’m saying though is that Musto knows all the gossip and in the last few years he’s said nothing or intimated nothing about Angie having a heroin problem. Not even when Page Six had the same BI as Ted - almost 6 months before Ted. Page Six had that BI in early Feb just after Angie’s mother died. Ted C used the exact same BI in Aug or Sep 2007 and every blog on the planet made fun of him for ripping off old Page Six BI’s that had ALREADY been proven false.

Here’s the difference between Michael Musto and Ted C - if Musto heard a rumor about Angie being on herion? That’s exactly what he’d write. He wouldn’t even bother with a BI. He’s done it before with other celebs and not gotten sued and I have no doubt he’d do it again. He’s been around longer than Ted and he’s got a rep for speaking his mind. The main reason he does the Bis, I think, is because they’re fun for the readers…and his editor at the VV makes him! As a matter fo fact - back when E! first started, Musto, Ted C, Jeannette Walls, Liz Smith, Cindy Adams, Janet Charleton, Mike Walker of NE and a few others used to do a 60 minute gossip show. Those guys would tip-toe around with their wording…Musto just blurted it out and let the chips fall where they may. And that was at least 15 years ago.

can’t imagine maniston doin this flick,hehehehe…..ya know when anjie attacking mc avoy, hehehehehe in the sound of rachel green.hehehehe

I saw the movie last night and it kicked a*s, it was classic Angelina. I was really surprised at James McAvoy, I don’t know what I was expecting from him but it certainly wasn’t to find him sexy and funny, lol!
Angelina has always been a big box office draw, that shouldn’t surprise anyone, but now I think she just stepped up to the top of the power ladder in HW. She is cemented now. She’s in with the big boys! :-)

McAvory is a solid actor, but Angie is the STAR of the movie. She’s the BETTER known actor. I doubt it would’ve been as successful had Angie not been in it. I went to see it. I liked it except for some minor details.
I don’t understand the Jen Aniston comparisons. Angie is an Oscar-winning movie star in the truest sense of the word. Angie is cool, badass and the stuff of glamour and fantasy. Jen is just a tv star, more famous for her clothes, hair and boyfriends than anything relevant. Angie is interesting and keeps ‘celebrity’ revelant in a culture teeming with pseudo-celebs and no-talent, worthless people.

wow two in a row for angie first kung fu panda and now wanted she’s the one and only superstar right. if not for angelina these movies won’t be box office success. more power to her and more movies to come

Weekend Estimates
Domestic Market Share

Wall-E, Pixar’s latest, was always favored to win weekend bragging rights with some pundits predicting an opening salvo of more than $70 million. Conversely, no one expected more than a $40 million debut for Wanted in light of its R-rating and perceived limited distaff appeal. However, a particular clever ad campaign played up Angelina Jolie’s presence and cemented the film as a date movie in the public consciousness.

Pixar films traditionally have a strong appeal for adults and initial day exit polls tracked the audience at 47% that were 25 years and older. In fact 22% of the crowd was comprised of unaccompanied adults.

Wanted exits tapped its audience at a mean age of 30 and tilted slightly toward women with a 52% score. Both factors contributed to a considerably bigger than expected opening and gave credence to the studio’s judgment call to move the film from a planned March debut into the summer after viewing an early assembly. Viewed as counter-programming, it came awfully close to prevailing.

Yes, no one expected this.

~Awesome. I enjoyed every second of Wanted. I will see it again with my husband. I saw it with my Hen friends hahahahhaa, We were six deep. And all of of us enjoyed it . Angie was Killing. Common,Common, cumming, all of us agree that he is a hot piece of work.
Peace~
===============================================
Hi Mrs. Lenny, oh yes he is. The man is so freaking fineeeeee :)

Awesome. Angelina J and James M surprisingly blast as a winning duo. She’s spicy, sensational, strikingly attractive. He has subtle charm, vulnerabiliity that makes a perfect fit for the plot.

I don’t get the comparison to Wall-E, a movie for kids. Different market, different everything.

It kills me how the trolls try to say that this is James’ movie. Even the critics are saying that the studio focused alot more on Angie when it came to advertising. Angie is in the ENTIRE movie, not just a few minutes.

Suck on it. Lick it. Love it. As Stewie Gibson (Family Guy) says, You will bow down to me!

I heart wanted the movie @ 06/29/2008 at 4:58 pm

I saw it last night and I love the entire cast - james mcavoy is amazing alongside angelina. Common and morgan freeman are fantastic as well…here is a behind the scenes clip of the movie. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7aEuffCnpKg

Universal marketing of angelina was brillant, can’t wait to see what they have in store for the channgeling.

I ‘m heading to the theater to watch WANTED for the second time..not because of James but because of Angie. The movie is exciting…I loved it.

Angelina is so great in this movie!! I can not wait to see Changeling, I’m sure that she is also great in that movie, I hope that next year will see Angelina and Brad on the red carpet for Oscars!
She is amazing!! The most beautiful woman in the world!

# 86 em @ 06/29/2008 at 4:38 pm Angelina was ok in it, but this was not her movie. It belongs to James. He ruled in every scene he was in.

—————————————————————-
everytime his in,im bored!u think people watch this movie without anjie?nah!ask maniston!!!

True nisha all the critics and trade papers are calling it an angelina jolie movie, the best opening of an angelina jolie movie, hell the studio calls it an angelina jolie movie, lol

OMG. GOOOOOOD TO KNOW THIS. I CAN’T WAIT TO SEE IT HERE IN MY COUNTRY.

LOL being called haters because they speak their minds on how bad this movie Wanted really was, Now Wall-e that was a great movie, but then again you all probably all ready know that because its the #1 movie in America. Hate me, love me, but don’t tell me to stop.

Angelina was NOT the star of this movie regardless of what people might like to think. I like her and all, but James ruled. He def stole scenes from Morgan and Angie, and since they are good, that is saying something. Angie looked like if you sneezed on her, she’d break in half. The eye makeup they used made her look gaunt. She’s a beautiful woman, but her beauty was somewhat lost in this movie.

Mike @ 06/29/2008 at 5:03 pm

Angie Rocked in wanted…I was a little surprised at the ending, but loved every minute of the movie, yes I olny wanted to see it because my girl Angie was in it, and I might just add, awesome a$$ she has, you go girl.:)

Nisha @ 06/29/2008 at 4:56 pm It kills me how the trolls try to say that this is James’ movie. Even the critics are saying that the studio focused alot more on Angie when it came to advertising. Angie is in the ENTIRE movie, not just a few minutes.

Review: Angelina Jolie And “Wanted”
David Edelstein On The “Incinerating” Actress’ Latest Action-Thriller

June 29, 2008(CBS) With roles in films such as “Girl, Interrupted” (for which she won an Oscar) and her latest, “Wanted,” Angelina Jolie has attracted a host of admirers … and that includes our own David Edelstein:

Hollywood is full of swollen-lipped actresses, but Jolie has the spirit to match those tire-treads.

She burst out of the gate in 1998’s “Gia,” about the glowering supermodel who embodied a new kind of tough glamour and died of AIDS. I remember her blasting through a scene stark naked - sorry, folks, can’t show it! - and admiring her fearlessness more than her body, which is saying a lot.

But Jolie has so large a presence she doesn’t need to pull out the stops or take off her clothes. She can underplay dryly, toying with lines and co-stars, which is why she was so smashing as a sociopath in “Girl, Interrupted,” devastating fellow patients to keep from turning her acid gaze inward.

Jolie has taken other “serious” parts, like Marianne, wife of murdered journalist Daniel Pearl in “A Mighty Heart,” and she was very fine, tamping down the drama queen stuff.

But even dipped in caramel, she was still, obviously, Angelina.

Her greatest box office successes have been as witty action heroines, as in “Lara Croft: Tomb Raider” and “Mr. and Mrs. Smith” opposite honey Brad Pitt, whose hard shell of narcissism held fast against her incinerating stares.

“Wanted” is in the same mode, but more spectacular: It’s state-of-the-art state-of-the-art.

The plot is nonsense about a fraternity of supernaturally gifted assassins, a hodgepodge of “The Matrix” and “The Terminator.” But Kazakhstan-born director Timur Bekmambetov is a whiz at mixing fast- and slow-motion to screw up your biorhythms. You take an hour to come down and then say: I fell for that???

It’s easy to fall for Angelina. There she suddenly is, beside timid protagonist James McAvoy, looking amused, twinkling, as if the whole gazillion-dollar movie is her toy. The bullets she fires seem like extensions of her will.

Does “Wanted” stretch her as an actress? Not remotely. We’ll see that later this year, as the mother of a kidnapped child in Clint Eastwood’s “Changeling.”

What Jolie really needs to prove herself is material she can’t toy with, parts bigger than she is. Hedda Gabler? Cleopatra? God?

***************
He wrote his idea of Angie = modern Hedda Gabler in his very positive Wanted review, too. Angie has mystery around her ? No, I don’t think so. She is too honest to be mysterious. But people believe she is.

YAY for Angelina!!!! :D She deserves it. WOHO!!!! :)

Sorry to rain all over your parade, Mikey-boy, but Wanted has earned more per-screen than Wall-E, so I’d call it a tie. But you call it whatever you want if it will make you feel better.

LOL no raining here, More per screening doesnt mean much to people, but throw in the #1 movie and that means a heck of a lot more. I can just see it tomorrow the #1 movie in america Wall-e sounds way better than the #2 movie in America Wanted. LOL. Don’t be so bitter that Walle-e rules, hey at least Wanted came in second. Can’t always be #1 unless your a Pixar movie of course!

Mrs. Smith @ 06/29/2008 at 5:13 pm

TOTALLY AWESOME!!!!!

Just got back from Wanted and I absolutely LOVED IT!!!! My brain still feels like mush as there was so much to this movie, like a roller coaster ride, upside down. What an incredible ride!!! I want to do it again and again.

For all the delusional hens out there, this is ANGIE’S FILM!!!!
If not for Angie, no one could have gotten my buttt in that theater seat today, nor my husband’s, my brother’s, or my other friend’s. Nothing against JM, but he won’t be able to cut it.

Thanks Jared.

konnitiwa @ 06/29/2008 at 5:08 pm

I actually listened to him say these words this morning on the TV, (it made my morning :)) and I have to say Angie does take the movie has her own, she was absolutely amazing in her stunts, and she is the one that carried the movie to this height of success…Rock on Angelina. :)

This is totally Angie’s movie. James McAvoy does nothing for me. I wish a better actor than James for Wesley.

Mike, Wall-e did great and it was such a good movie but it didn’t do as well as other Pixar movies. My fave The Incredibles made 70 million the first weekend. Anyway, the real story is WANTED because it performed better than anyone thought it would for an R rated coming out the same weekend as a Pixar film.

You’re either a hater, insane, or blind. I’m on record that she looks as beautiful as she did in MAMS (and that’s saying something) - it was a different kind of beauty, more in your face. Literally, when she appears in that drugstore, it’s like BAM!! (((FACE!!!))) People oooh’d and aaaah’d. I tell you, I was concerned — knowing that Angie’s Mom had just passed, that she had had trouble with her nutrition in light of her grief and mourning and that she was more slender than normal at the start of this filming, I wondered what she would look like on film, but there are scenes in this film where her beauty is so refined and classical, perhaps BECAUSE of her bone structure being in relief from losing a few pounds, that she was even more beautiful than EVER.

Sorry hater, go rag on Dustinnfer Hoffmaniston’s airport pics…big nose, forehead furrow, no lips and low forehead if you want FUG, Maniston brings that as hard as Angelina brings the sexy. So hop to.

Bona Fide SMASH-HIT! @ 06/29/2008 at 5:35 pm

Very pleased that the movie did so well. I went this afternoon and saw it. Angie killed it! Her presence throughout the film made the movie for me. Although James McAvoy did an excellent job, not to mention Morgan and Common. Angie was captivating from the moment she appeared on screen til the end. Anyone who doubted her box office clout will be silenced (and can suck it, lol). And James, can absolutely write his own ticket after this. Common smolders, so hopefully we’ll see him as a romantic lead soon, lol! Morgan is a cinematic icon at this point.

Congrats to eveyone involved! It’s a major box-office showing!!

Yeah - no way would I have seen this movie if not for Angie…let’s say it was James McAvoy, and er, Nicole Kidman, or Hilary Swank, or rachel weizs, or Charlize Theron or whoever…forget it - the sh*t would have bombed big time, and I wouldn’t have known it was even releasing because I wouldn’t have given a hot flying f**k. lolol

Congrats Angie!!!! The sexiest woman alive!!!

In honor of Angelina Jolie’s second turn as a super sexy assassin in Wanted, here are 10 gals you may or may not want to meet in a dark alley…

(Dating Scale: 1 = Marriage Material / 10 = Run for your Life)

2. Angelina Jolie as Jane Smith in Mr. & Mrs. Smith
Weapon of Choice: Guns…and lots of them
Why She Rocks: From a Glock 19 to an MP5A2, this sexy assassin came stylin’ with a gun for every occasion (roughly 30 different types were used throughout the film). And when she wasn’t breaking bones, she was breaking hearts in an elegant black dress that was just…to die for.
Dating Difficulty (9): She’s married…to another assassin. We’d advise you to stay far away.

nice try, but it’s nothing you can do to bring us fans down, although you gave it a hella of a try. but the girl is too bad, brad knew what he was doing, regardless of the haters and he was right. brangelinas for ever. now go back to your loser idol jen, ha ha ha.

Clini—they all know it was ANGIE that made the movie a smash BO hit…JM and Universal also know it…..soooo the poor pathetic things are going to squirm and lie until the really BIG smack in their faces arrives in a few weeks ……

My son anticipated this movie because of 1) it’s a comic book based & 2) Angelina. He watched it and liked it a lot, telling me that Jolie is beautiful in the film.

I did not like Atonement so I will not go to a genre of movie I don’t like because of him. That means with his status, the number of people he could draw into the theaters is not big. Credit is deservedly due to Jolie. Did warm up to MMS because of Jolie more than Pitt.

I llike Clint Eastwood and am interested in the story of Changeling, and like to see the rave about Jolie’s acting so I’ll see it.

to just saying,

Brad is where you can’t see because it is none of your damn business.

Mike @ 06/29/2008 at 5:10 pm

I’m not bitter at all, honey; how old are you anyway, seventeen and a half? That was a really silly comment. There is plenty of room for both these movies this summer. One’s a movie for children and the other is a movie for grownups. Kids usually have to get taken to the movies by grownups, so that sells more tickets. I’m not especially into kiddie movies so I’m not going to see this one, but if you are, hey, whatever floats your boat.

I Just love Angelina Jolie the No.1 actress ,The Movie Wanted is Fantastic,Great loved it.

Angie is the only actress in hollywood who can command any price these days. Thanks to X fans constants bashining they indirectly reaped more loyal brangie fans.

Reason why wanted is a box office success is not only because the movie is good but because brangie fans supported the movie. Brangie fans saw the movie because of angie not mcvoy

Errr… the preceding post was probably brought to us by the same @$$hat who claimed that Brad raced back to the US to ’save’ AMH last year.

And leave it to shortsighted douchebags to shortchange Angelina’s accomplishment. Unlike Reese W.’s minor role in Penelope, Angelina’s presence propelled people to the theaters. I honestly can’t think of any actress who can ratchet up the energy of a film like Angelina Jolie. Whether it’s a leading role, cameo, or supporting player, she rocks the $h*t out of everything she does. And she doesn’t have to use princesses’ goodwill to fuel it.

CLINIQUA, You know I sort of felt the same way about Angie. Remember when they were in Chicago shooting scenes and JJ made a thread of some of the stills. Well the trolls as usual were laughing and saying Angie looked skinny. They were also laughing at her makeup. Even some of the tabs had pictures of her saying she was too skinny.

What I noticed in all of the reviews and interviews that have been posted here on JJ’s, JJB, USA Today, NYT, Huffington Report, and other sites that I visit only two reviews mentioned how thin her arms were. I think that is saying something. She looked beautiful. Remember when she is standing watching them work over Wesley? She hardly has any makeup on. Her face looks so pure. I thought she looked beautiful.

As for Brad. He is trying to calm his twins down as they have heard the good news and are celebrating inside their mother. It means that he doesn’t have to keep reassuring and propping up a talentless person, because he is with someone who has talent. It also means he can use his energy for more worthwhile endeavors. It means the man is happy for his partner. It means Angie will feel happy for her man when BAR and CCBB debut. Peace

wanted will even do better worldwide than in the us. Angie is famous all over the world. Mcavoy is not as famous as angie worldwide

Only two woman in HW can play this kind of movie,Angelina and Uma.This movie Wanted kept you hyped all through it.Another great movie for Angie.

‘Wanted’ is tops overseas
Universal thriller nabs $33 million in 22 territories
By Frank Segers

“Wanted”

Universal International’s “Wanted” proved to be the international circuit’s most desired title during the weekend, grabbing the No. 1 boxoffice spot with an action packed $33 million from 1,922 screens in 22 territories.

Disney/Pixar’s “WALL-E,” the No. 1 title domestically, set a promising opening pace in a limited, six-market overseas bow, grossing an estimated $3.1 million from 400 screens in Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Panama, Ecuador and Trinidad.

Finishing in the No. 2 weekend spot was DreamWorks Animation/Paramount’s “King Fu Panda,” which had powerhouse bows in six territories and landed with $21.5 million overall from 3,401 sites in 24 markets. Its international gross total stands at $98.5 million, while the worldwide tally is $277.8 million.

As the European soccer championships wound to a conclusion Sunday, third-place finisher “The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian” introduced itself to continental Europe, scoring strongly in the U.K. and France for an overall weekend estimate of $20.1 million from 4,200 screens in 34 markets. Its overseas the cume is $161.8 million; with $298.8 million globally.

Coming in at No. 4 was Marvel/Universal’s “The Incredible Hulk,” which dropped nearly 50% from the previous weekend to an estimated $12.1 million from 4,243 situations in 54 markets, for an international cume of $85.5 million. Worldwide, its total gross is $201 million.

Fifth on the weekend was Warner Bros. International’s “Get Smart” starring Steve Carell, which played its second weekend overseas on 2,386 screens in 21 markets for an estimated $11.8 million. Strong openings in Australia ($3.8 million from 322 sites) and Mexico ($3 million from 700 screens) sparked overall action, bringing the spy spoof’s overseas cume to $20.1 million. Globally, its cume is $97.4 million.

Last weekend’s No. 1 title, Paramount’s “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull,” finished out of the top five this round but remained strong in its second weekend in Japan ($5.2 million from 327 spots for a market cume of $24 million). Overall, “Crystal Skull” pulled in $11.4 million from 4,721 spots in 62 markets for an overseas cume of $413 million.

Based on a comic series by Mark Millar and J.G. Jones, “Wanted” starring James McAvoy, Angelina Jolie and Morgan Freeman, had a smashing Russian opening, grossing $11 million from 612 sites for a rousing per-screen average of $18,000. Generally, it finished at No. 1 in almost all territories that it played.

The director of the action title — about a put-upon office nerd’s conversion into a world-class assassin — is Kazakhstan-born Timur Bekmambetov, whose past two fantasy thriller titles (”2004’s “Night Watch” and 2006’s “Day Watch”) were substantial hits in Russia. “Wanted’s” early worldwide gross tally is $84.1 million.

Errr… I have to disagree about Brangelina fans being responsible for the movie’s success. I looked around the theater and I doubt that the majority of the audience blogs and make tribute videos.

In theory, Brangelina fans have supported Brad and/or Angelina films before; some were B.O. successes; some weren’t. However, I do think that some people smarted up about the alleged triangle. Or maybe, the economy and gas prices suck such @$$ that people needed a release, and a pushing 40 actress hooking up with a serial pi$$er isn’t going to do it.

No offense to you, but there is no need to get delusional, much less, an inflated ego about something that’s a figment of your imagination.

This may seem like a strange thing to say, but her size added to her character. She was kicking Wesley’s @$$ in that movie and given Fox’s backstory, she was fueled by something other than muscle and girth. Fox’s commitment to her beliefs serves as a great foundation to subsequent sequels.

That is great news for Foreign box office especially for Russia.

I totally agree with you about the kids being with parents /guardians made the figures for WALL E.

Jolie movies in top 5…WOW !!!

A great actress can do action thrillers and tear jerker movies with ease. THat ’s our JOLIE girl…

omg #1 & #2 in the world, and #2 & #4 in the US, and “The world was shocked…” the haters are screaming at the ocean LOL

Trolls just can not stay away from our Angie. Note they were the first ones on her thread. There dear X has a thread. Why aren’t they there? Think they don’t believe the hype either? God bless Brad and Angie and their family.

I paid $9 to see Wanted best $9 i ever spent. The movie was fast action kept you well entertained,But we had crowd of college kids ,kept hollering for Angie and clapping. But i loved the movie.

I saw the movie last night and it was awesome!!!!

I loved the unexpected ending and the bits of humor in the movie. I am definitely adding this movie to our DVD collection when it comes out!!!

BBL

BAMPZS+2 fans remember I warned you. i said if Wanted and KFP were both in the top 5 the trolls would lose their sh*t big time. The overseas number are coming in and Wanted and KFP are doing great. This is going to get ugly. Trolls will be splattered around like bugs on a windshield.

Should we feel sorry and pray for them or do a happy dance? Stupid question. I’ve put on my music. I know Angie’s manger has called her with all of the good news. Heck with all the baby kicking etc, they might come early. Peace

BTW, I can’t wait to see it. I’ll steal away some time on Tuesday to take in a matinee or something. The trailers look HOT !!!

Congratulations to Miz Angelina Jolie!

The very pregnant star had a HUGE opening this weekend - and it wasn’t the twins trying to pop out.

Angie’s film, Wanted, did huge business at the box office in America.

The movie made $51.1 million and….

- Wanted was the biggest opening of a live action film in Jolie’s career
- It turned out to be the best June opening ever for an R-rated movie, beating Knocked Up’s $30.6M, and the 6th highest R-rated opening of all time
- The studio expected only a $35+M opening, so the film did much better than anticipated
- Angie proved she is a big draw: Cinemascore said the main reasons given for choosing to see Wanted were the action (67%) and Jolie (61%).

We weren’t able to see it this weekend, but we definitely wanna check out the pic this week.

It’s been getting great reviews!

Noo OC, soo wrong OC, Wall-E was to make at least $70 mil$$, it missed forecasts.

Wanted was to make $35-40mil$$ or so, it EXCEEDED ALL EXPECTATIONS!!!

In addition, more icing on the cake, Wanted was #1 overseas with $33 mil$$ and KFP was #2.

Beowulf was also #1.

Angie’s last 3 movies have all been hits!!!!

Give it up for the master, OC, just give it up!! Really it won’t hurt too much.

Oh really?? who died to make you a critic. Even Clint Eastwood has all praises for her in ‘Changeling’ . Dumb dumb. I’m glad you are sick. Pls. stay sick..

what the haters fail to realize is this, not every body delve into people personal lives and judge people like they do, it’s none of any body business what they do in their personal lives, their grown people, they don’t have to answer to any one, they don’t owe us any thing , and also Angie is a hero both on screen and off, look how she turned her life around, it was not always easy for her, but instead of having a pity party she rolled up her sleeve and got busy. and i went to see Angelina, i don’t know that other guy. most people don’t live on the Internet so they don’t know these actors personally, but every one involved in the movie did a great job.

I watched ‘Wanted” for one reason because of Angie.

Okay, so where, in any of my posts, did I discount Angelina’s contributions? I said that ‘Brangelina fans’ can’t take sole credit for this film’s success.

As for defending cook, it was less about him and more about checking someone who pretended to know about how posters here support Brad and/or Angelina. That trick had no right to scold anyone, given that it lacked the spine to be consistent in offering her pantload of an opinion.

i don’t understand the huge obsession with angelina jolie. yes, she’s sexy but.. she’s not really a great actress. she’s ok, but not great. calling her the #1 actress in the world is just stupid.
as for the movie, maybe jolie was used for advertisment as the star of the movie, but, honestly, if you didn’t see exactly HOW GREAT james mcavoy was and how he outshined EVERYONE in the movie, you’re blind. he is the star of the movie. he’s one of the most talented actors i’ve ever seen.
oh, btw, LOVED the movie, it was fun to watch. i’m glad it’s doing so well.

I am a huge Angelina fan and I found her physical appearance very disturbing. Not only were her arms stick-thin, her legs were equally as wasted (there was absolutely no muscle tone). She looked as if she couldn’t pick-up a gun much less use it. I’m all for mindless summer movies but this had implausible plot points, no sense of humor (about itself) and was just so fake. Needless to say, I did not enjoy this movie at all.

I’m sure Angelina will get mega offers to do more action movies. she kicks ass!

P.s. I hope she has a little more weight on her in her next action movie.

Action film blows away foreign box office
By DAVE MCNARY

Universal’s assassination actioner “Wanted” came out with both guns blazing overseas, easily winning the weekend with a surprisingly robust $33 million at 1,922 playdates in 22 territories.
With a socko $17,169 per-location average in its day-and-date launch, “Wanted” underlined the drawing power of action pics in the international market as it hunted down No. 1 finishes in almost every territory and looked to keep local pic pirates at bay.

The movie posted particularly boffo returns in the booming Russian market — $11 million at 612 — as it rode the popularity of local helmer Timur Bekmambetov, known for the Russian “Night Watch” movies. The figure represented U’s top launch and the best debut for an R-16 pic in that market.

Universal Intl. president David Kosse said the results exceeded internal forecasts and cited the pic’s “fresh” look plus the star power of Angelina Jolie, Morgan Freeman and James McAvoy.

“Wanted” opened with an impressive $8 million (including previews) in the U.K., matching the launch of Disney’s much-anticipated “The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian.” The Blighty take marked the third highest 18-rated film launch behind “Hannibal” and “Sweeney Todd.”

South Korea also saw boffo biz with $6.7 million at 240, representing U’s top launch in the market along with the best opening of an 18-rated Hollywood film.

Except for the U.K., Universal aimed “Wanted” mostly at fast-burn markets due to the likely impact of piracy, which typically diminishes performance once a pic opens in vulnerable territories. Thailand took in $1.1 million, followed by Hong Kong and Singapore with $870,000 each, the Ukraine pulled in $833,000, Malaysia with $770,000, the Philippines with $746,000, Turkey with $508,000 and Poland with $484,000.

Kosse told Daily Variety that the pic’s performance was particularly impressive given that “Wanted” — based on a graphic novel — had been a largely unknown property with mainstream auds. Kosse acknowledged “Wanted” will face serious competish next weekend from Sony’s Will Smith tentpole “Hancock.” “I think ‘Hancock’ will do very well, but I think we’ve got a lot of momentum from this weekend,” he said.

More than one option (Co) Daily Variety Filmography, Year, Role
(Co) Daily Variety

“Wanted” opens next weekend in Italy, followed by a staggered international release over the next three months.

Unlike Universal, Disney opted for a smallish foreign day-and-date launch for “Wall-E.” The pic nonetheless tallied an impressive $3.1 million at 400 Latin American playdates in half a dozen markets. The toon led in Brazil with $1.6 million in the third biggest Pixar launch after “The Incredibles” and “Finding Nemo” and topped Chile with $525,000 and Colombia with $498,000.

“Wall-E” hits its first major foreign markets next weekend with launches in Mexico and Russia and will open gradually over the rest of the year to maximize local playability opportunities, following a pattern similar to that employed for “Ratatouille.” Given its pedigree and the strong market for CG toons, “Wall-E” could wind up as the best foreign performer this year, a list currently topped by Par’s “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull,” which has amassed $413 million to date, including $11.4 million over the weekend. “Finding Nemo” is the top international performer among Disney/Pixar titles with a $525 million foreign cume, followed by “Ratatouille” with $410 million and “The Incredibles” with $362 million.

Just got back from seeing Wanted a second time. I don’t normally go to the same movie twice, but since I won’t be seeing BAR (it violates my “No Porgie Rule”) I thought I’d see this one twice to make up for it.

Soooo…I must admit…I enjoyed it more the second time because I wasn’t trying to figure out the plot, or lack thereof. I don’t think the plot was the total clunker that some critics made it out to be, but it definitely could have been tighter in places. ALL action movies have some plot holes and unexplained happenings and this one had fewer than some action flicks I could name…like pick any Ah-nuld movie…

Funniest moment in the theater…the people behind me who spent the first 10 minutes asking where Angie was and when she finally showed up one of them says, “Finally! There she is!”

Funniest moment OUTSIDE the theater…all the senior cits in line in front of me asking for Wanted tix! LOL. I couldn’t believe it. They weren’t togehter either. There were 3 older couples and 3 or 4 by themselves. When I got inside and looked around the audience there were seniors down to late teens…more men than women this time though.

BTW - Piper, I meant to say yesterday when you were talking about that little issue our people have with talking to the screen…I saw more of the same today. A brotha 3 or 4 rows in front of me kept up a running commentary. He’d obviously seen it at least once before because he was saying stuff like, “Awww, this is good stunt coming up!” We tend to forget we’re not at home, don’t we?

Angelina Jolie’s Wanted: No. 2 at the Box Office

Buzz up!

Angelina Jolie’s action thriller Wanted had the best opening ever for an R-rated film released in June and the 6th best opening of all the time for any R-rated film, according to Variety.

But Wanted didn’t open at No. 1. WALL-E, the Pixar Animation tale about a robot, opened with $62.5 million in ticket sales, while Jolie’s assassin thriller Wanted raked in $51.1 million, the Associated Press reported Sunday.

(See photos of Angelina’s most memorable action roles.)

According to the AP, WALL-E drew moviegoers of all ages.

“The real secret is they’re not children’s movies. They’re movies for everybody. Children absolutely adore them, but parents enjoy them on a different level,” Mark Zoradi, president of Disney’s motion-picture group told the AP.

Nikki Rocco, head of distribution for Universal, told the AP, “We knew WALL-E would be huge, but it’s not the same audience as Wanted.”

The same New York Times critic who dissed the Sex and the City movie gave Jolie a rave review.

“With her mean smiley-sneer and snug clothes, her heels and hieroglyphics, she cuts the kind of disciplinarian figure who can bring antsy boys of all ages to their knees or at least into their theater seats,” Manohla Dargis wrote.

I love it that everyone says it’s angelina’s movie,sweet.

My Mom and her female movie buddy both in their 70’s saw Wanted on opening day. When I went, there were people of all ages . No children under 13 other than a couple of babies. I plan on going again tommorrow. My husband wants to see it.

buckeyegurl @ 06/29/2008 at 8:11 pm

Outstanding! What a great opening. I LMFAO at the people saying JM carried this movie. Most people I have talked to that saw the movie said they had no idea who the guy was before this movie. He could NOT open a movie before. Maybe after the success of this one, he can, but the opening of Wanted had to be credited to Angelina and to Morgan Freeman. They are much more widely known. Angie Rocks!!

O.K. one more hour to go before seeing Wanted. I feel like the kid left out of the party, on the outside looking in…

I am also happy for Morgan. I love that man as well. Anyone else who loves him has to see “Bucket List”. He makes it wonderful even if the story is a little thin. Jack Nicholson is wonderful too,and the scenary is worth seeing twice, but Morgan is the GREAT ONE.

# 96 You/Me @ 06/29/2008 at 4:48 pm I saw the movie last night and it kicked a*s, it was classic Angelina.
_________

Great post–BUT, did you see Cannes? Angie IS the big boys…

When I went yesterday the movie goers were more middle age and older couples. There were a couple of families with small children, but not many. It was a relative quiet crowd. A couple of Ahhs, but nothing loud. I think the two men in the same row with me, and I were probably the only ones going gaga over the stunts. Doesn’t look like I will be going back today to see it. Therefore I will go on Tuesday. Peace

…now, ain’t that some monkey s hit!!…anyway, one of my devoted fans decided at 4:55 to leave a fruity but half true comment in my behalf without permission…no way I’m EVAH EVAH EVAH gonna describe James Mac as a charm…I haven’t even seen the movie yet…

I love this movie. I have seen it three times.

IT IS A MINDLESS FUN RIDE.

I ACTUALLY SAW A GUY CRY B/C WHAT ANGIE DID IN THE MOVIE. DAMN.

GO SEE THIS FREAKING HOOOT MOVIE.

Wow! Angie is freaking HOOOOOTTTTTT.

However, to James Mac’s credit…he was mighty convincing s crewing Kerrie Washington in “The Last King of Scotland”…hahaha…I think he made Kerrie moist…hahaha

With Angelina’s $15 million pay she more than delivered. Great job Angie!

+++++++++++++++

———————————————————————————————–

Woody Allen once said, ” I don’t care if my movies make a lot of money just as long as they make a profit, because every time they do I get to make another one”
Rest assured the success of this movie (if she ever really needed it) allows her to continue supporting her causes and continue to have first crack at choice roles. Not knowing the very fine devine woman, I’m guessing she’ll be happy with that.

I have to say JM was funny in the movie but it would have been blah without Angie. She had the best stunts the real meaty parts that movie goers look for. Let us not lie to ourselves without the stunts Wanted could have ended up being another office comedy. Kudo’s to Angelina for a job well done.

Of course I enjoyed the movie very much and intend to watch it again next weekend.

Angie is the smartest actress in HW, she takes second or third lead roles but still gets paid big time. Some of the HW actresses have too much ego and would only play lead roles.

Angie is also I think the most versatile. She can do drama, action, thriller, rom-com, and I think she should try doing musical comedy next!

I’m planning on seeing it again later this week, along with The Incredible Hulk. It’s strange… I’ve seen more action flicks in the theater than I ever had. Iron Man, KFP, Wanted, Indiana Jones, although IJ was a bit of a disappointment, except for the TCCOBB trailer. Will more than likely see the Batman movie too.

Wanted may have opened slightly better than MMS but in no way will
make almost half a billion dollars world wide.

This movie is a win win for both James and Angelina. All thoese new eyeballs got a good look at James. You can safely say that this crowd would not normally go see a movie like Atonement. So it’s a a win for him. It’s a win for Angelina because she did a movie in a genre which the public like to see her in. She reconnected with her audiences and drew in some new fans as well.

Wall-E > Wanted

The movie was indeed pretty bad. Okay action but nothing that great.

jenne -

It doesnt matter what you think.
Angie got offers from movie execs.
That means she must be a profitable actress.
Movie execs are business people.
If Angie keeps getting offers, and always 1st look, that means
movie execs believe in her in bring gold.

logic is simple, she must be doing something very right, otherwise how do you explain her being the 2nd highest pay actress.

The thing about all those hits is that Angelina was used to promote those movies and the trolls are still findng a reason to take her out of the equation. Dumb trolls. Congratulations to everyone including JP fans.

Good lord, Like Angelina Fans Ever thought Angie’s Movies did well because of Scandal or Even Brad. Someone WAY underestimates Angelina, and Her Fans.. Not to Mention all The Jolie-Pitt Fans.!

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

I like the fact that this survey was done to prove that Angie was the main draw to this movie, so it saves us some time from arguing with the naysayers.

Congratulations to Angie and all the fans especially those on JJ for all the things we’ve endured through the years. It’s sweet success.

jenna @ 06/29/2008 at 10:03 pm

When does Alexander became an Angelina movie ? Colin Farell was the leading star.Olive Stone was the creator and director of that films Okay, I get it, all bomb movies belong to Angie while all her BO hit credited to the her costar , director, good story line, screen writers ,camera man, crane grip guy , stylist, make-up artist, stunt man….whoever was involved in that film , everyone just not Angie.
KFP was a Jack Black movie but they used Angie as one of their marketing tool.
Wanted is defintely an Angie movie, not only does the professional critics agree on it so does most movie buff, James McAvoy is cute, talented actor, Timor B. was an excellent directors but without Angie , this movie won’t be placed at the summer blockbuster months, and won’t open this big. Without Angie, Wanted will probably stay at less competitive March opening , and probably ended with a total gross just like Mila J. last movie 70 million something.

All actresses have experienced bomb and flop movies, name one actress who never had a flop movie. and please list Cate B. and Rachel Mcadam bom and BO hit movies. before criticizing Angie.

http://www.deadlinehollywooddaily.com/warner-bros-decides-to-embrace-the-women/

OT: Too bad Warmer Bros is not embracing(pushed back twice) that other great chick flick, “He is avoiding your whiny ass”. I guess they ran out of VHS tapes.

EXCLUSIVE: I’m told that Warner Bros will now aggressively push Diane English’s remake of The Women skedded for release September 12th with wider distribution and bigger marketing in the wake of the success of Sex And The City. This is an about-face from the studio’s earlier decision to leave plans intact for about-to-shutter Picturehouse to debut the chick flick in limited release and with a small P&A. But after weeks of hemming and hawing, Warner Bros has now come to realize that the low budget $16.5M remake could make money. I’m told that as a result The Women’s marketing budget has moved north from a planned $7M-$8M to $25M-$30M. Back on June 2nd, I criticized Warner Bros for sitting on a potential SATC successor, maybe even a reproducible event. After all, I argued, The Women was written, directed and produced by one of the biz’s best women comedy writers (of seminal Murphy Brown fame), and starred a quality cast of Meg Ryan, Annette Bening, Eva Mendes, Debra Messing, Bette Midler, Jada Pinkett-Smith, Debi Mazur, Joanna Gleason, Carrie Fisher, Lynn Whitfield and Cloris Leachman. I also suggested that, even if the movie is no good, it could reach SATC’s two-quadrant audience with ad slogans like: “If you loved Sex And The City, then you need to see The Women who started it all.” After I posted, a top Warner Bros exec phoned me and said, “We should give it another look.” And the studio did. I bet women eager for another pic about female friendships and upscale lifestyles and urban sex will open The Women for a $20+M weekend. If not, well, I don’t own Time Warner stock.

God, keep blessing and watching over the Jolie-Pitt family.

I didn’t ask for your “real name”. I said if you were a regular poster here to use your regular posting name otherwise you were being a “p*ssy” by hiding behind a fake name. I stand behind that.

Since you’re apparently not a “regular” here with a known nickname…then why all the anger? That excludes you from the “p*ssy” group, does it not? Plus, I did not deny you your right to your opinion, did I? No. I did not call you a troll, did I? No. Did I say you weren’t a true Angie fan? No. Did I not tell you that I was not a fan of all of Angie’s movies either? Yes. Did I not tell you what thread the others were using to discuss the movie should you wish to do so? Yes.

The director said, “….this movie happened BECAUSE OF HER….”

-
-
-
After Angelina Jolie signed on for a $15-million payday as a superstar assassin, the movie was a go. “Angelina was helpful and honestly, this movie happened because of her,” says Bekmambetov. “Not only is she beautiful, determined, focused, smart and athletic, but she’s also feminine and charming. She was also tough as nails during the creative process.”

Platt and Bakmambetov wanted quiet everyman James McAvoy to play Wesley and screen-tested him a year before the studio saw “Atonement,” which earned the Scottish actor an Oscar nomination. (This is McAvoy’s third go-round with an American accent.) “He brings a reality and truthfulness to the character and to the character’s transformation both physically and emotionally,” says Platt. “He’s not a superstar action hero. He’s an everyday guy. And hopefully that makes for a more satisfying journey.”

“‘Wanted’ is about the transformation of Wesley’s character,” says Bekmambetov. “James told us at the beginning that he would spend a lot of time building himself up. By the time he finished the movie, he was a different person than when he started. He did a lot of the stunt work himself.”
-
-
-
Meanwhile, Bekmambetov and Platt await boxoffice results. They’re already talking story on a “Wanted” sequel. “Great characters often yield franchises,” says Platt, “because the audience wants to come back and take another ride with them. ‘Wanted’ is not one of those films you walk out of and don’t remember who the director was. You will know when you leave this movie it has been made by Timur Bekmambetov.”

i dragged 4 other people to go to this movie so “you’re welcome, angelina jolie” :)

overall, i enjoyed it. the action sequences were new, unique and thus exciting. it could use better plot/script. except for a couple of funny lines i expected to be better in this department. that’s the only thing stopping this movie from being really good. having said that, without AJ, it would have not been 1/2 as exciting. maybe because i am a fan and totally biased but she made the movie. James M was cute but AJ was the bass-ass of the movie. you’re always watching her every move every time she’s on screen and that to me, is STAR QUALITY!

i also wished there was more love scenes, too :)
can’t wait for the changeling & Ben Button. the jolie-pitts are on a winning streak.

Angie is great. I could see her in a movie like “Bourne”, hope she does that money about the “Mecenary” which is a true story. “Wanted” would be nothing without Angie. Go Angie!!!!!! She is proving that she can make the money!!!!
Looking forward to BAR, Changeling and BB. Love how Brad and Angie do movies with varied themes. I saw “Walle” although I agree it is a good kid flick, I liked KFP better. I was rolling in my seat with KFP.

As Wanted shows, Angie has a natural atheletic ability and she is a charismatic actress.

I predict The Channeling will be successful too. People are drawn to Angie the person and Angie the actress (she has an energy , talent and persona that draws you in.) She is a very good actress and when matched with good material, attracts an audience.

After the Tomb Raider movies Angie chose roles based on how they fit into her humanitarian work. So she was away from Hollywood alot. So those who now know of her, do not realize she had developed a fan base and an attractive aura about her before MAMS, despite what the media and tabloids say. The negative image was a figment that the media created. And I don’t know why, other than those who chose to write such negative things were threatened by her. She must have made them feel insecure. But Angie had already made a postiive impression on many like me, with her talent and her personality.

And since MAMS, she chose small, supporting roles or roles that have special significance to her, like AMH. AMH did as well as it did only becaue Angie was in it. (Reese and Halle had dramatic, serous movies around the same time as AMH but did not perform as well as AMH.)

Angie is so versatile. I am looking forward to seeing both Wanted and The Channeling. What other female actress and how many male actors can pull off such drastically different roles? Angie seems to do it effortlessly. That is the sign of a great actress. Angie and Clint will hold the Channeling audience spellbound. How can she not.

Congratulations to Angelina! Can’t wait to see the movie. I wonder when it would be shown here in Australia? The X fans couldn’t stand that whilst Angie had been making babies, making and showing smash hit movies for the past three years their idol the X had nothing to show except her fug doctored face and her body especially her genital areas.

samishsunseeker @ 06/29/2008 at 11:06 pm

This was one of the most gory, violent, disgusting movies I have seen. I love Angelina and think she is a gorgeous, great actress! I am completely shocked that she would “sell out” to a movie like this that desensitizes us to bullets in the head, eyes, etc… blood splattering everywhere-close-ups, etc… After all she stands for in her humanitarian efforts, peace, justice, non-violence, etc… I now question her motives–notoriety to be in a #1 movie, no matter what the content? She must get 100’s of script offers. Why this one? I was nauseated after 1 1/2 hours in the theater (and I am not a prude-I can handle R movies), but this was ridiculous. Most of the theater was made up of young adults (like myself) laughing and whooping it up everytime someone was murdered. It literally made me sick to my stomach. My husband was disgusted and we left 30 minutes before the ending.

‘Wanted’ is tops overseas
Universal thriller nabs $33 million in 22 territories

“Wanted”

Universal International’s “Wanted” proved to be the international circuit’s most desired title during the weekend, grabbing the No. 1 boxoffice spot with an action packed $33 million from 1,922 screens in 22 territories.

++++++++++++++++++++

More great news! Cool. Looks like this movie has legs and will last for a while. If Hancock is as bad as the early critical reviews claim it is, maybe it won’t do as well after the opening weekend and folks will go back to watching Wanted. I like Will, but…he’s had enough hits with bad or mediocre movies, he can take a back seat for a change.

Exit friend of a Friends star

Scoop: Jennifer Aniston was turned away from Wimbledon. The Hollywood actress might be used to red-carpet treatment but here celebrities are shown about as much respect as Justin Gimelstob could expect at a bra-burner’s convention. Aniston’s boyfriend, John Mayer, was watching his mucker James Blake but the actress was told Blake had used up his guest allowance, even though there were free seats. Irritatingly, her Friends co-star Matthew Perry saw the entire Championships a couple of years back cheering his mate Mark Philippoussis. Friends? Over-rated.
_____________________________________

Hahahahahahaha!!! Geez, you KNOW you ain’t sh*t when you can’t even get into a damn tennis match. …and James Blake?? Why does she have to go through him to get in anyway?? What a loser! Hopin’ for another Vince Vaughn like photo-op reminiscent of her 2006 UK tour with him — ah, but it’s two years later Maniston, and you are even LESS relevant than then, but still clutching to coattails. Turned down from a sports event…ouchie. That had to hurt. Bahahaha!

I went to see Wanted for the 2nd time. My bowling friends insisted we go again ! I can’t believe I am confessing this, but here what’s happened.

Remember that scene where Jolie slowly crept out of that tub, and walked naked with her bare back and butt, then she swing that white towel ? It happened so fast, but you can see full view of her butt !

I just blurted out loud: OMG, her butt jiggled with attitude big time !!!!!!!!!.

The entire audience in the balcony roared into laughter, clapping their hands and doing high fives ! And the rest was asking - what did she say ?? so many times .

I was just so embarrased, I covered my face with my jacket ! I just interrupted the movie. The ushers came up with his flashlight, and the audience including the ushers just burst into laughter.

A minute later, the lights were dim again. Holly cow - what have I done ?

Oh no - I am not going back there again. I did my part Cliniqua !

LMAO onmyown, you ROCK!!!

I liked “Wanted” but my fav is M/Mrs Smith. Love that movie!!!!
As for bombs, Angie does not look back as many actors. They make the movie and move on. Although the numbers may say some of the movies were bombs, I personally like all of them. Really love “Playing by Heart”. Angie is so full of life in that movie! Watched “Bone Collector” today and Angie just stands out in a movie. She is definitely one of a kind.
I was just imaging her and the four girls going shopping and hanging out together. 3 blondes and Ms. Z, who will be top lioness.

samishsunseeker @ 06/29/2008 at 11:06 pm

interesting take on the film. i am sorry you didn’t enjoy it but what did you expect to see from a movie about assassins?

i am a very squirm-ish person, too and I always cover my eyes during violent scenes yet that doesn’t stop me from watching violent movie ie. A History of Violence, Eastern Promises, Kill Bill and Wanted. there’s a place for movies like this just like there’s a place for family, romantic comedy…as long as it tells a good story and brings new things to the movie-making process, i’d watch it. the only movie i ever walked out on was How to Loose a Guy in 10 Days because the dialogue was so idiotic that it was painful to watch (I rather open my eyes for all of the scenes in Kill Bill than have to sit through that movie again).

i also don’t understand why you think she “sell-out”. how is this action movie, plot-wise, different from Tomb Raider or Mr & Mrs Smith? just because it’s more gory than the other ones? she’s an actress in a movie. she makes believe and the movie is make believe. don’t start the “if kids watch violence, they’ll do violent things”. it’s one of the dumbest things i’ve ever heard. i hope people have stronger moral fiber than emulate what’s on TV. those who are not, would do it sooner or later without the influence of what they see.

AJ gave her reason for making this movie (not really sure why she feels she has to) and that is it’s something “fun” and different from back-to-back emotionally draining movies that she did. COULD she keeps on making movies that “mean something”? sure, she gets thousand scripts like you said so it’s not hard. SHOULD she only makes movies that “mean something”? sure BUT she doesn’t and i love that. i love that she doesn’t turn preachy and can still be in movies just for the fun of it.

i don’t understand why people keep questioning everything she does or every motive behind them. she’s not Mother Theresa! she’s a good person with a kind heart who does kind things BUT that doesn’t mean everything she does has to “send a message”. like most things in life, AJ is not black & white so stop thinking of her as either as all-saint or all-evil. like us, she’s probably something in between.

My Mom and her female movie buddy both in their 70’s saw Wanted on opening day. When I went, there were people of all ages . No children under 13 other than a couple of babies. I plan on going again tommorrow. My husband wants to see it.

++++++++++++++

LOL. I can’t imagine my mother sitting through this movie. She’d be objecting to the language more than the blood, guts, guns and knives!

Also, I did see one couple with a child today. The kid couldn’t have been more than 3 or 4 and started crying at one point and I saw the mother get up and take her out of the theater. I guess they couldn’t get a baby sitter on a Sunday afternoon. If that was the case, then they should have stayed home. You’d have to be a complete moron to take a toddler to this movie…in which case you’re too dumb to be breeding, too.

Why do idiotsl like you allways whine? Very unattractive.

Why are people over analyzing this movie. Summer blockbusters are suppose to be fun movies with just enough dialogue to hopefully carry a plot without too much thinking. You go for the special effects, the creative car chases, the hero saving the day, or world in some highly inventive way.

Now all of a sudden people are craving plots that make sense and dialogue with complex sentences and abstract thought. Wanted isn’t perfect. But it is pretty damn good with mind blowing stunts the like that haven’t been seen since Matrix. The movie is to be enjoyed.

I know Angie is the star. Everyone knows Angie is the star. But i betcha if James or another man had played Angie’s role there wouldn’t be all of this analyzing about could she shoot a gun, etc. But if a man had played this role it would have been just another summer movie that wasn’t a blockbuster. Angie, regardless of what anyone thinks, made this movie in more ways than one. James was just there for the ride. Peace

It must be hard for an artist to realize they are no longer as popular as they once were.

Sheryl Crow is currently on tour across America and it’s a big ol’ bomb.

The All I Wanna Do singer’s trek has sold so poorly! It’s embarrassing!

Sheryl is playing to MOSTLY EMPTY venues across the U.S.

Here’s a breakdown of some of her recent gigs, according to Boxscore.

Crow performed at the Verizon Wireless Music Center in Pelham, Ala, on May 23rd. The venue holds 10,469 people and only 2,973 bought tix.

Ouch!

Things are so bad, that Sheryl couldn’t even fill a small-to-midsize venue in New York City!!!!

Crow performed at the Rumsey Playfield in NYC on May 29th. That venue holds 5,500 people and only 3,489 bought tix.

In NYC!

Similar story in Cincinatti, where Crow played on May 25th. The National City Pavilion holds 4,114 people and only 2,790 bought tix.

It was only a summer or two ago that John Mayer was opening for Sheryl and she was headlining huge venues.

Now she can’t fill small ones!

How sad.

Our people, our people, our people…

I’m planning on seeing it again later this week, along with The Incredible Hulk. It’s strange… I’ve seen more action flicks in the theater than I ever had. Iron Man, KFP, Wanted, Indiana Jones, although IJ was a bit of a disappointment, except for the TCCOBB trailer. Will more than likely see the Batman movie too.

+++++++++++++++

Wanted’s the first movie I’ve seen all summer. I haven’t seen any of the movies you mentioned, but I will go see Indiana Jones next week. I was just waiting for the crowds to thin out. I was going to go today, but decided to see Wanted again instead.

Frankly…I’m way too picky with my movies. I like RDJ…but refuse to pay money to see Putrid…so that meant Iron Man was out. I can’t stand Ed Norton’s twitchy acting…so The Incredible Hulk was out. I HATE cartoons, so KFP was out. LOL. They can call that shite “animated” if they want, but it’s a fcuking cartoon. The last animated movie I paid money to see was “Who Framed Roger Rabbit” and that’s only because it was part live action.

If I don’t make it to Indiana Jones next week, then the next movie I see will most likely be The x-Files movie at the end of July. Like I said yesterday - I’m all over Christian Bale as Batman, but I wasn’t impressed by the trailer, especially not by Heath Ledger’s Joker and Maggie Gyllenhall looked like she was sleepwalking. They might as well have gotten Katie Holmes again! I thought Maggie was a better actor than that. I realize it’s just the “girlfriend/love interest” role, but don’t take the role if you’re just going to phone it in.

Haters can say what they want to say but it was more Angie than McAvoy who was the real attraction to this movie. If they had had Shia leBoef (sp?) in it as Wesley, I bet the numbers would have been bigger. As Timus has said, this movie wouldn’t have been made without Angelina. It was her that upped the budget for the production.
And I think McAvoy is being an a-hole re that kissing scene. He knew it was Angelina who had the graphic nudity and sex scenes cut out of the script. He was insulted by that I bet, hah!

Secondly, Angie’s salary for various movies is routinely posted on movie sites and in trade publications like Variety and The Hollywood Reporter. I read. You shoud try it sometime, then you wouldn’t be ignorant and making a fool of yourself by claiming others don’t know what their talking about. So “Pfffft!” to you, too.

Angelina Tops Jen
Filed under: Jennifer Aniston > Angelina Jolie > Film Flickers

Looks like the battle is off.

Both Jennifer Aniston and Angelina Jolie were set to battle it out at the box office later this year.

On October 24th, Angelina’s new drama, Changeling, is set to premier. The film is already gathering some Oscar buzz.

Yes, she’s that good.

That same day, Maniston’s latest film, He’s Just Not That Into You, was set to premiere as well.

Well, it was originally set to debut on August 1st, but with the movie sucking as bad as it is, they pushed it to October 24th.

That means that Maniston would have to compete against her ex-husband’s love of his life and mother of his children.

But that’s not how Maniston plays.

Instead, her movie has just been pushed back - again - this time to February 6th, 2009!

The fact that Jen’s film keeps getting pushed back does not bode well for the film.

We smell another Valkyrie!

#15L califan, I was thinking about just the same thing. She has a backstory that is more interesting than that of Wesley’s. All they have to do is find a real badass to portray her dad’s killer and how she killed him plus how she got recruited by the Fraternity. The rest (except for Wesley can have their backstory too along with how Sloan picked her to be his number two). That mark on her neck was interesting to see. That’s a whole story right there.

+++++++++++++++

You’ve got your potential Angie projects mixed up. “The Mercenary: Love And Honor” is Randall Wallace’s movie about Catherine The Great that he’s been courting Angie to do since late 2003. The movie you’re thinking of is about an ex UN covert agent who busted a big arms dealer and doesn’t currently have a working title.

I want Angie to star in that movie, Bitten. I bet she would rock as a werewolf. The story sounds good and you can just picture Angie in it.
I still haven’t lost hope for Sin City 2. Man, she’s gonna be getting more offers after this. They had better be willing to give her a big paycheck and her usual perks (like a short shooting schedule, bodyguards and nannies for her little ones). I bet she’s one of those who don’t ask for scented candles and flowers and little jellybeans all in white or black or something in her contract.

I saw the movie on Friday and it was awesome. Angie looked sexy and kicked ass. The theater was packed.

It must be hard for an artist to realize they are no longer as popular as they once were.

Sheryl Crow is currently on tour across America and it’s a big ol’ bomb.

+++++++++++++++++

Perez is losing it. A lot of once popular acts and sports franchises aren’t selling tickets these days and it doesn’t completely have to do with their waning popularity. It has to do with the economy and gas prices. I’ve got 2 co-workesr who are big NASCAR fan and normally goes to 4 or 5 races a year. For the last 7 or 8 years NASCAR’s sales have been through the roof. This year at race tracks that seat 100,000+ people and have been filled in years past, they’re only selling about 3/4 of the tickets. The co-workers both told me that they’re only going to 1 race this year, in KC, because they usually drive to the out of state tracks and with gas prices being as ridiculous as they are there’s no way they’re going to drive 1200-1600 miles and pay upwards of $250 for tix on top of it.

In Sheryl Crow’s case her last album had mediocre sales, so yes, I’m sure part of the problem is that she’s not as popular…or that she’s touring on her own and usually she goes on the road with another act. Last year it was John Mayer. No offense to Sheryl, but how many times can a person really listen to “Soak Up The Sun” without trying to bust a cap in her head? That song sucks big time…

Soon soon WANTED in my country. I can’t wait it.

Why am I fcuking with you? Because I can, silly! I could tell you were feeling neglected. Hell…you only had 2 people snark at you all day. I figured you’d appreciate a little attention…

Can we stop saying “hater”? That word just irks me for some reason :)

ROTFLMAO. You dumb ****. Everybody and their dog…except you apparently…knows that no female actress in HW gets a backend percentage on their movies. NONE. Not Reese. Not Julia Roberts in her prime. Not Jodie Foster. Not Angelina. NONE.

Now, now, PT, calm down. I realize H’wood is a small town and it’s hard to keep secrets. But, you know, I don’t trust that these pubs know everything. Even if they do know, they are so deep in the pockets of the studios that I even wonder if they’d report it. They were so pro-AMPTP during the WGA strike that I vowed never to believe another word they printed. It certainly wouldn’t be in the interests of the studios to let it be known if any female was now getting a backend %.

But you know, Brad is incredibly shrewd and knows how to bargain. I can’t believe that on an iffy movie with an untried-in-America director but with a known huge female action star Brad wasn’t able to get Angie some real (i.e., gross) points on this movie. Maybe it was even tied to other factors. Brad has a lot of bargaining chips in H’wood.

So maybe she got just a regular salary or maybe she didn’t. I don’t expect to read about it in Variety. This movie is going to make a lot of money before it’s done and I can’t believe that Brad and Angie didn’t secure a nice piece of that pie.

I’m just saying. Cause we don’t really know.

Vickie, I’m so glad I was able to offer anything that helped. Having gone through my own losses I learned how much it helps just to have people ackowledge your loss and your experience.

I liked your comments, Piper. I agree that I shouldn’t look at her as black or white, but somewhere in between. Probably like all of us! :) I enjoyed her other films, and even though there was violence, it didn’t bother me in the same way that this film did. I think a huge part of it was the laughing in the theater by many people EVERY time someone got shot in the head–it kind of wierded me out. I agree, that violence does not cause people to commit crimes, however, it does subtly desensitize us (I believe) to the sacredness of life, and prepares us for the next movie which may be a little more gory, more perverted in some way, or more sensational. Even several years ago, they would never allow a child to be shown murdered on tv or the big screen, now it happens occasionally. I do firmly believe (like the frog in the proverbial pot of boiling water) that as a society we are becoming slowly introduced and accustomed to more degrading and demoralizing acts both on tv and in the movies. The US has one of the highest violent crime rates in the entire world. Although many countries are beginning to catch up, it makes you wonder if like in Europe–they traditionally have been much more prohibitive in their allowance of violence in movies, but much more permissive in their sexuality on-screen. I don’t know,
