‘Wanted’ Breaks Box Office Records

‘Wanted’ Breaks Box Office Records

The Angelina Jolie action thriller Wanted scored the best opening ever for an R-rated film released in June and the 6th best opening of all time for any R-rated pic, according to Variety.

The film, which also starred James McAvoy and Morgan Freeman, placed No. 2 at the box office this past weekend behind the endearing toon Wall-E.

At $23.1 million, Wall-E scored the biggest opening-day gross of all nine Pixar films and raked in an estimated $62.5 million for the weekend. Wanted soared beyond expectations, pulling in a whopping $51.1 million.

FYI: If you haven’t seen Wanted yet, you get to see Angie’s derrière in all its glory for a mere split-second.

I’m not bitter at all, honey; how old are you anyway, seventeen and a half? That was a really silly comment. There is plenty of room for both these movies this summer. One’s a movie for children and the other is a movie for grownups. Kids usually have to get taken to the movies by grownups, so that sells more tickets. I’m not especially into kiddie movies so I’m not going to see this one, but if you are, hey, whatever floats your boat.

I Just love Angelina Jolie the No.1 actress ,The Movie Wanted is Fantastic,Great loved it.

Angie is the only actress in hollywood who can command any price these days. Thanks to X fans constants bashining they indirectly reaped more loyal brangie fans.

Reason why wanted is a box office success is not only because the movie is good but because brangie fans supported the movie. Brangie fans saw the movie because of angie not mcvoy

Errr… the preceding post was probably brought to us by the same @$$hat who claimed that Brad raced back to the US to ’save’ AMH last year.

And leave it to shortsighted douchebags to shortchange Angelina’s accomplishment. Unlike Reese W.’s minor role in Penelope, Angelina’s presence propelled people to the theaters. I honestly can’t think of any actress who can ratchet up the energy of a film like Angelina Jolie. Whether it’s a leading role, cameo, or supporting player, she rocks the $h*t out of everything she does. And she doesn’t have to use princesses’ goodwill to fuel it.

CLINIQUA, You know I sort of felt the same way about Angie. Remember when they were in Chicago shooting scenes and JJ made a thread of some of the stills. Well the trolls as usual were laughing and saying Angie looked skinny. They were also laughing at her makeup. Even some of the tabs had pictures of her saying she was too skinny.

What I noticed in all of the reviews and interviews that have been posted here on JJ’s, JJB, USA Today, NYT, Huffington Report, and other sites that I visit only two reviews mentioned how thin her arms were. I think that is saying something. She looked beautiful. Remember when she is standing watching them work over Wesley? She hardly has any makeup on. Her face looks so pure. I thought she looked beautiful.

As for Brad. He is trying to calm his twins down as they have heard the good news and are celebrating inside their mother. It means that he doesn’t have to keep reassuring and propping up a talentless person, because he is with someone who has talent. It also means he can use his energy for more worthwhile endeavors. It means the man is happy for his partner. It means Angie will feel happy for her man when BAR and CCBB debut. Peace

wanted will even do better worldwide than in the us. Angie is famous all over the world. Mcavoy is not as famous as angie worldwide

Only two woman in HW can play this kind of movie,Angelina and Uma.This movie Wanted kept you hyped all through it.Another great movie for Angie.

“Wanted”

Universal International’s “Wanted” proved to be the international circuit’s most desired title during the weekend, grabbing the No. 1 boxoffice spot with an action packed $33 million from 1,922 screens in 22 territories.

Disney/Pixar’s “WALL-E,” the No. 1 title domestically, set a promising opening pace in a limited, six-market overseas bow, grossing an estimated $3.1 million from 400 screens in Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Panama, Ecuador and Trinidad.

Finishing in the No. 2 weekend spot was DreamWorks Animation/Paramount’s “King Fu Panda,” which had powerhouse bows in six territories and landed with $21.5 million overall from 3,401 sites in 24 markets. Its international gross total stands at $98.5 million, while the worldwide tally is $277.8 million.

As the European soccer championships wound to a conclusion Sunday, third-place finisher “The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian” introduced itself to continental Europe, scoring strongly in the U.K. and France for an overall weekend estimate of $20.1 million from 4,200 screens in 34 markets. Its overseas the cume is $161.8 million; with $298.8 million globally.

Coming in at No. 4 was Marvel/Universal’s “The Incredible Hulk,” which dropped nearly 50% from the previous weekend to an estimated $12.1 million from 4,243 situations in 54 markets, for an international cume of $85.5 million. Worldwide, its total gross is $201 million.

Fifth on the weekend was Warner Bros. International’s “Get Smart” starring Steve Carell, which played its second weekend overseas on 2,386 screens in 21 markets for an estimated $11.8 million. Strong openings in Australia ($3.8 million from 322 sites) and Mexico ($3 million from 700 screens) sparked overall action, bringing the spy spoof’s overseas cume to $20.1 million. Globally, its cume is $97.4 million.

Last weekend’s No. 1 title, Paramount’s “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull,” finished out of the top five this round but remained strong in its second weekend in Japan ($5.2 million from 327 spots for a market cume of $24 million). Overall, “Crystal Skull” pulled in $11.4 million from 4,721 spots in 62 markets for an overseas cume of $413 million.

Based on a comic series by Mark Millar and J.G. Jones, “Wanted” starring James McAvoy, Angelina Jolie and Morgan Freeman, had a smashing Russian opening, grossing $11 million from 612 sites for a rousing per-screen average of $18,000. Generally, it finished at No. 1 in almost all territories that it played.

The director of the action title — about a put-upon office nerd’s conversion into a world-class assassin — is Kazakhstan-born Timur Bekmambetov, whose past two fantasy thriller titles (”2004’s “Night Watch” and 2006’s “Day Watch”) were substantial hits in Russia. “Wanted’s” early worldwide gross tally is $84.1 million.

Errr… I have to disagree about Brangelina fans being responsible for the movie’s success. I looked around the theater and I doubt that the majority of the audience blogs and make tribute videos.

In theory, Brangelina fans have supported Brad and/or Angelina films before; some were B.O. successes; some weren’t. However, I do think that some people smarted up about the alleged triangle. Or maybe, the economy and gas prices suck such @$$ that people needed a release, and a pushing 40 actress hooking up with a serial pi$$er isn’t going to do it.

No offense to you, but there is no need to get delusional, much less, an inflated ego about something that’s a figment of your imagination.

not for me @ 06/29/2008 at 6:10 pm

I don’t watch anything that has Jolie in it. She is so repulsive and looks like a walking skeleton. I don’t know what the appeal there is.

just saying @ 06/29/2008 at 6:11 pm

joyce.. I would have to say Michelle Pfieffer would be great in that role as well.

This may seem like a strange thing to say, but her size added to her character. She was kicking Wesley’s @$$ in that movie and given Fox’s backstory, she was fueled by something other than muscle and girth. Fox’s commitment to her beliefs serves as a great foundation to subsequent sequels.

That is great news for Foreign box office especially for Russia.
