‘Wanted’ Breaks Box Office Records
The Angelina Jolie action thriller Wanted scored the best opening ever for an R-rated film released in June and the 6th best opening of all time for any R-rated pic, according to Variety.
The film, which also starred James McAvoy and Morgan Freeman, placed No. 2 at the box office this past weekend behind the endearing toon Wall-E.
At $23.1 million, Wall-E scored the biggest opening-day gross of all nine Pixar films and raked in an estimated $62.5 million for the weekend. Wanted soared beyond expectations, pulling in a whopping $51.1 million.
FYI: If you haven’t seen Wanted yet, you get to see Angie’s derrière in all its glory for a mere split-second.

Cliniqua, Quit dissing Dustin Hoffman by comparing him to Aniston. Not only is he a gtood actor, he seems to be think highly of Angelina as a actress and person.
not a fan @ 06/29/2008 at 3:47 pm So sick of this haggard looking, tattooed, ugly-faced chick. All she can do is action flicks, cause she just can’t act.
****
Oh really?? who died to make you a critic. Even Clint Eastwood has all praises for her in ‘Changeling’ . Dumb dumb. I’m glad you are sick. Pls. stay sick..
what the haters fail to realize is this, not every body delve into people personal lives and judge people like they do, it’s none of any body business what they do in their personal lives, their grown people, they don’t have to answer to any one, they don’t owe us any thing , and also Angie is a hero both on screen and off, look how she turned her life around, it was not always easy for her, but instead of having a pity party she rolled up her sleeve and got busy. and i went to see Angelina, i don’t know that other guy. most people don’t live on the Internet so they don’t know these actors personally, but every one involved in the movie did a great job.
I watched ‘Wanted” for one reason because of Angie.

Cliniqua—please we love Dustin and he loves Angie…soooo can we not compare that ‘thing’ to our beloved Dustin??? I mean with all the facial surgerious she has had we can now link her to resemble pretty much anyone, right??? Awww I wish you were Ferguson fans, he’d find a look-a-like in a second ….
Someone suggested that we discuss The Wanted more in detail in this thread :

Okay, so where, in any of my posts, did I discount Angelina’s contributions? I said that ‘Brangelina fans’ can’t take sole credit for this film’s success.
As for defending cook, it was less about him and more about checking someone who pretended to know about how posters here support Brad and/or Angelina. That trick had no right to scold anyone, given that it lacked the spine to be consistent in offering her pantload of an opinion.
i don’t understand the huge obsession with angelina jolie. yes, she’s sexy but.. she’s not really a great actress. she’s ok, but not great. calling her the #1 actress in the world is just stupid.
as for the movie, maybe jolie was used for advertisment as the star of the movie, but, honestly, if you didn’t see exactly HOW GREAT james mcavoy was and how he outshined EVERYONE in the movie, you’re blind. he is the star of the movie. he’s one of the most talented actors i’ve ever seen.
oh, btw, LOVED the movie, it was fun to watch. i’m glad it’s doing so well.
I am a huge Angelina fan and I found her physical appearance very disturbing. Not only were her arms stick-thin, her legs were equally as wasted (there was absolutely no muscle tone). She looked as if she couldn’t pick-up a gun much less use it. I’m all for mindless summer movies but this had implausible plot points, no sense of humor (about itself) and was just so fake. Needless to say, I did not enjoy this movie at all.
I’m sure Angelina will get mega offers to do more action movies. she kicks ass!
P.s. I hope she has a little more weight on her in her next action movie.

If she can carry 2 kids at the same time, she can pick-up a gun.
anustin—ITAWU–Jay Leno would be perfect to double up as X b/c she has soooo many fans and poor thing could get somehow hurt with all the media attention due to her talent, beauty, humaniatrian work for ’smart water’, endless BF’s……Of course Huvane has nothing to do with all this crap… But anustin do you think Leno would endure the bikini wax….dunno??

Action film blows away foreign box office
By DAVE MCNARY
Universal’s assassination actioner “Wanted” came out with both guns blazing overseas, easily winning the weekend with a surprisingly robust $33 million at 1,922 playdates in 22 territories.
With a socko $17,169 per-location average in its day-and-date launch, “Wanted” underlined the drawing power of action pics in the international market as it hunted down No. 1 finishes in almost every territory and looked to keep local pic pirates at bay.
The movie posted particularly boffo returns in the booming Russian market — $11 million at 612 — as it rode the popularity of local helmer Timur Bekmambetov, known for the Russian “Night Watch” movies. The figure represented U’s top launch and the best debut for an R-16 pic in that market.
Universal Intl. president David Kosse said the results exceeded internal forecasts and cited the pic’s “fresh” look plus the star power of Angelina Jolie, Morgan Freeman and James McAvoy.
“Wanted” opened with an impressive $8 million (including previews) in the U.K., matching the launch of Disney’s much-anticipated “The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian.” The Blighty take marked the third highest 18-rated film launch behind “Hannibal” and “Sweeney Todd.”
South Korea also saw boffo biz with $6.7 million at 240, representing U’s top launch in the market along with the best opening of an 18-rated Hollywood film.
Except for the U.K., Universal aimed “Wanted” mostly at fast-burn markets due to the likely impact of piracy, which typically diminishes performance once a pic opens in vulnerable territories. Thailand took in $1.1 million, followed by Hong Kong and Singapore with $870,000 each, the Ukraine pulled in $833,000, Malaysia with $770,000, the Philippines with $746,000, Turkey with $508,000 and Poland with $484,000.
Kosse told Daily Variety that the pic’s performance was particularly impressive given that “Wanted” — based on a graphic novel — had been a largely unknown property with mainstream auds. Kosse acknowledged “Wanted” will face serious competish next weekend from Sony’s Will Smith tentpole “Hancock.” “I think ‘Hancock’ will do very well, but I think we’ve got a lot of momentum from this weekend,” he said.

“Wanted” opens next weekend in Italy, followed by a staggered international release over the next three months.
Unlike Universal, Disney opted for a smallish foreign day-and-date launch for “Wall-E.” The pic nonetheless tallied an impressive $3.1 million at 400 Latin American playdates in half a dozen markets. The toon led in Brazil with $1.6 million in the third biggest Pixar launch after “The Incredibles” and “Finding Nemo” and topped Chile with $525,000 and Colombia with $498,000.
“Wall-E” hits its first major foreign markets next weekend with launches in Mexico and Russia and will open gradually over the rest of the year to maximize local playability opportunities, following a pattern similar to that employed for “Ratatouille.” Given its pedigree and the strong market for CG toons, “Wall-E” could wind up as the best foreign performer this year, a list currently topped by Par’s “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull,” which has amassed $413 million to date, including $11.4 million over the weekend. “Finding Nemo” is the top international performer among Disney/Pixar titles with a $525 million foreign cume, followed by “Ratatouille” with $410 million and “The Incredibles” with $362 million.

I saw this movie Friday night! I must say, it was more exciting and more interesing than I thought it would be! Yes, I would watch this movie again!!! A few parts made me cried!!! and a few parts, I want to get up and kick some butt!! hahaha… And some parts I just laughed!! it was a very good movie!! If you like action, this movie is it!!!
Angie was great in this movie! So was James McAvoy. Morgan Freeman was funny!!!!!!
I am so happy for Angelina and the money ,Wanted is making.Angie did great in the movie.I just love Angie and Brad and children.
i see the troll is back-lol,and i’ll say it again the troll didn’t SEE the movie, lol,
Just got back from seeing Wanted a second time. I don’t normally go to the same movie twice, but since I won’t be seeing BAR (it violates my “No Porgie Rule”) I thought I’d see this one twice to make up for it.
Soooo…I must admit…I enjoyed it more the second time because I wasn’t trying to figure out the plot, or lack thereof. I don’t think the plot was the total clunker that some critics made it out to be, but it definitely could have been tighter in places. ALL action movies have some plot holes and unexplained happenings and this one had fewer than some action flicks I could name…like pick any Ah-nuld movie…
Funniest moment in the theater…the people behind me who spent the first 10 minutes asking where Angie was and when she finally showed up one of them says, “Finally! There she is!”
Funniest moment OUTSIDE the theater…all the senior cits in line in front of me asking for Wanted tix! LOL. I couldn’t believe it. They weren’t togehter either. There were 3 older couples and 3 or 4 by themselves. When I got inside and looked around the audience there were seniors down to late teens…more men than women this time though.
BTW - Piper, I meant to say yesterday when you were talking about that little issue our people have with talking to the screen…I saw more of the same today. A brotha 3 or 4 rows in front of me kept up a running commentary. He’d obviously seen it at least once before because he was saying stuff like, “Awww, this is good stunt coming up!” We tend to forget we’re not at home, don’t we?
