Backstory: Poor Vanessa Hudgens. Between last fallâ??s nude photo scandal, the imminent release of â??High School Musical 3â?? and tabloid obsession over her relationship with co-star Zac Efron, it seems like hardly anyone has noticed that her sophomore album, the oddly titled â??Identified,â?? comes out this week.

Why you should care: Letâ??s give credit where credit is due: lead single â??Sneakernightâ?? is an irresistible summer anthem, cribbing its jazzy hip-hop vibe from the last Christina Aguilera album to great effect and giving Hudgens a rare chance to sing with some actual soul.

Verdict: Unfortunately, the rest of â??Identifiedâ?? is a colossal bore. Album opener â??Last Nightâ?? has a nice groove and lyrics that kind of make you feel sorry for Zac (â??I donâ??t wanna know what you did last night/I donâ??t wanna hear that you had a good timeâ??) and the closing ballad â??Gone With the Windâ?? is affecting in a doe-eyed, Alicia Keys sort of way. But except for â??Sneakernight,â?? the album these tracks bookend may as well have been recorded by an Auto-Tuned robot. Only the Gwen Stefaniâ??style dance-pop of â??Hook It Upâ?? stands out, but for all the wrong reasons; Hudgens sings about â??hotty bodiesâ?? and â??playas onlyâ?? dance clubs so unconvincingly, itâ??s painful.

X-Factor: Is Hudgens paying the price for that embarrassing nudie pic? Officially, Disney accepted Hudgensâ?? apology for the scandal, but itâ??s hard not to notice that â??Identifiedâ?? is getting dumped into the marketplace right in the middle of several more high-profile Disney projects, including the new Miley Cyrus album, a big Jonas Brothers tour and the debut of â??Camp Rock,â?? a â??High School Musicalâ??-style project featuring hot newcomer Demi Lovato.

sure she could do what she wants and if that meant releasing a record of mature-themed songs, it’s she and Hollywood Records’ decision, but i think both Vanessa and her management are smarter than this.

I don’t think it’s a “getting back at her” but yes, I do think it has been a bit of a slowing down on how much she pushes the envelope for now. and we can’t forget she is only 19. it’s an adult, but still very young. i dont want to assume what vanessa wants, because i do not know her, but i think yes, they are aware that people are watching her under a microscope and that she has a few more obstacles to overcome than most due in part to what happened. whether it’s fair or not, people are judging her much more harshly because of it. if she keeps her head on straight and just continues to walk forward gracefully, i see no reason for anymore setbacks in her career.

#355 Nicki, I’ve heard that, too. And I think a good many celebrities do want to be out there and seen. However, I truly believe that’s the last thing that Zac Efron wants.

#356 Andrea, that is only one of many reviews. And I think the person who did that one only knows ONE aspect of Vanessa and is focusing on that. I seriously doubt that Hollywood Records sat down and tried to figure out a way to sabotage Vanessa’s new album.

#358 Sara, you’re right. Many of us forget that Vanessa is still young, and how much she has already accomplished. That said, I do hope that if she plant to continue with her music, she signs with a record company that will allow her to showcase her voice, and put some muscle behind promoting her work.

Tabby, what Vanessa said was they even TALKED ABOUT taking a vacation together. In my opinion, it would be virtually impossible to get the main cast (6 or 10) together for a 4th of July get-away.

Even Ashley is busy, spending time with her family and bf in Hawaii.

I can see them having a cast get-together somewhere after they’ve all made the rounds promoting HSM3.

But, after just finishing HSM3, they are all going to be pretty wiped out and not in the mood to party with the whole gang.

I can just see the paps darting about the beaches of Hawaii looking for Zac and Vanessa. They’re probably tripping over each other, snapping pictures of every couple that faintly resembles Zac and Vanessa.

“Oh, damn, that wasn’t them. Wait . . . over there. No. There, there . . . the couple kissing.” Snap. Snap. Snap. “Sorry . . . no need to get nasty. I’m leaving. I’m leaving.”

All the vacationers are probably looking confused and muttering, “What the hell is going on?” :lol:

I don’t know to scream or laugh at comments like “I can’t wait until we get the pics” or “Oooh, Z&V Hawaii Part 2, hurry up Jared with the pics”. How can anyone honestly think that pictures are coming our way? This beautiful couple who had their lives invaded last year because they were still a little naive to their drawing power is not the same couple this year. They had a year full of exposure and flashbulbs going off in their faces everytime they darkened a door to come outside—was even named one of the youngest “power couples” in Hollywood. I don’t think they’re innocent and inexperienced anymore. HENCE the PRIVATE JET whisking them away to parts unknown. It may be a part of Hawaii that paps can’t get into but after the year they’ve had and going to the lengths of private jet, then it stands to reason they are NOT on a public beach or milling around where cameras are likely to follow. We never had ONE picture of Zac’s dad and him when they went off to Australia last year for their vacation, so it can be done.

Yes, beverley, that’s what I think. They didn’t go by private jest to end up in a hotel—not even a 5 star one—just to be around other people where someone would surely know who they were and blab. The transport was private and I’m sure where they are laying their heads down to sleep is a private residence or cottage of some kind. That’s why I say they still could be in Hawaii, but not a public beach where other tourist are.
