Movie and TV crews help Louisiana recover

NEW ORLEANS — A record number of major feature films and television pilots are being filmed in New Orleans and throughout Louisiana, creating an economic boost to a region rebuilding from the destruction of Hurricane Katrina three years ago.
The number of film, TV and video projects throughout the state with budgets of at least $300,000 climbed from 31 in 2004 to 56 last year, according to the Louisiana film and television development office. This year, there have been 55.

New Orleans also saw 14 major features filmed in the city last year, a record number, says Jennifer Day, director of the city’s film and video office.

Production companies have been drawn by tax breaks and the support of Hollywood titans such as Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie and director Tony Scott, Day says.

Pitt stars in The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, filmed in and around New Orleans and due out this year.

Having said that, shouldn’t you be more comfortable where you are openly welcomed and where you are among your peers? Stay at D-listed or Perez Hilton….they’re not as loony nor as dumb as we are. They’re more your speed and so gentle to your kind too.

If you don’t like her, fine…but why come here to tell her fans she’s this and she’s that and that you don’t like her. What is driving you so nuts about her popularity and likeability factor plus why be surprised that some people are defending her and slamming you back with words. I’m such a slow poster, and I could never keep up with the threads with life so crazy right now I can only lurk to keep abreast with fellow fans and with latest about the JPs. With rice being so expensive, I have to work my ass off . LOL!

Mantakin mo, diesel is at Php56++ per liter (and since I use biodiesel, its a long drive for me to fill up at the nearest gas station that sell one). Ganador rice is at Php46++ per kg. In contrast, fish is very cheap. With the sinking of Sulpicio’s Princess of the Star, people are not buying fish. Fisher folks and those that depends their livelihood on marine resources are suffering. Can you imagine, Lapu-Lapu fish is only Php20 per kilo? And even at that price, nobody wants to buy. I was talking to a fish vendor and she said, since the incident until now, people are still abstaining from fish. They’re lucky if they can sell a kilo or two. Some days not at all.

The thing about Sulpicio is that they were involved from the last 5 major maritime tragedies (am not counting what happened to the Superferry 14 in 2004) and no criminal liabilities filed were able to sustain against their officials, both the civil and criminal cases were settled or the plaintiffs/complainants just dropped the case because they languished in court and its too much for the victims/survivors to recount over and over again. What’s sad is that, out of these sea tragedies, Sulpicio ends up with more insurance money to finance purchase of a bigger vessel. The last tragedy, they lost the biggest vessel in the country at that time, then they purchased Star which sunked. It won’t be long they’ll purchase a much bigger one.

Hey there NLAL. Yep salary on a straight line and minimum fare has also increased, but PGMA has a consuelo de bobo. She’s increasing tax exemptions to Php50K for single/HOF/ME + Php25K for QDCs (though only for 1/2 since its effectivity started July 6.

I would love for these crazy trolls to do an immersion course - live for a week the lives of a minimum wage earner in the Philippines. Or, below min wage earners with only Php100 to spend daily with 10 mouths to feed. Let’s see if they can still afford to go apeshit over Angelina Jolie giving birth to twins.
