Maggie Gyllenhaal (in Peter Som) dishes to Marie Claire in their August 2008 issue, on newsstands nationwide July 15.
The 30-year-old Dark Knight actress opens up about the highs – and surprising lows – of blockbuster-size fame and being a mom. Maggie also shares how she keeps her edge, her adjustment to motherhood, and dealing with the heart-wrenching death of neighbor, friend and costar Heath Ledger.
On her younger brother Jake Gyllenhaal: “We lived with him in Los Angeles when [my fiance Peter Sarsgaard] and Jake were making Rendition. Jake has a beautiful house, much nicer than a hotel. He’s great with kids - it comes naturally to him. He really has that touch.”
On the death of Heath Ledger: “We live pretty close to them. [But] it was disgusting. I had journalists call me on my cell phone. There were these two shy girls sent from some rag magazine to camp in front of my house. I came home with [my daughter] Ramona and I was so shocked and angry. These poor girls (Michelle Williams and daugther Matilda), it wasn’t their fault. They were out of their element.”
On turning the big 3-0: “I’m not the youngest person at the table anymore. I’m not the young precocious one. I feel like I’m engaging with people in a different way now. I am a woman. I’m treated with respect, as an equal.”

The only thing ugly here are the malicious comments made by jealous women who are total strangers to Maggie. From my male perspective, Maggie is incredibly hot!
All the trash talking, hateful comments on Maggie Gyllenhaal are from one psychotic fan of katie Holmes. She has been posting hundreds of libelous comments on Maggie under different nicknames, here on Just Jared and on other blogs. She hates Maggie because she is the one which has been chosen by Christopher Nolan to play Rachel Dawes when Katie Holmes was canned.
Her real name is Simonette Alanes. She is 34 years old, unmarried, and living with her parents (her mother name’s is Kohinoor Alanes) in Arletta, California. She is a phillippino immigrant and has never worked. She spends her whole days on the Internet and she is living at her parent’s expenses and stealing their credit cards regularly in order to buy stuff, magazines about Katie Holmes, her idol. Katie Holmes is her whole life. Simonette Alanes thinks that they fired Katie from The Dark Knight in order to hire Maggie … which is true, actually. And she has murderous thoughts and intentions when she thinks of Maggie.
I had dismissed Maggie as a failure after seeing a bit of Secretary, a movie so unpleasant I really couldn’t watch all of it. But recently I happened to see most of Sherry Baby and was very impressed. While not a superb performance it was really very good. I now think she is as good an actor as her brother; before I put her several steps below him.
The Gyllenhaal “look” obviously goes better with a man than a woman. It is not a pretty or beautiful look but an interesting and intelligent one. Men fit that better than women. As for Jake’s house. I doubt it is all that great. I am sure he make a big move upward when he moved in Reese’s mansion. Hers is a 6 million dollar house’ his is a less than 2 million dollar house.
You say she’s ugly? why don’t you ppl just take a look at urselves in the mirror! I bet you guys are 3665469 times uglier than her!
