Brad Pitt is an Inglorious Bastard
Brad Pitt met with director Quentin Tarantino in France on Tuesday to secure Pitt to play the key role of Aldo Raine in Inglorious Bastards, reports Variety.
Tarantino also plans to meet Leonardo DiCaprio on Thursday to play another lead role, Hans Landa.
Inglorious Bastards will shoot this fall in Germany and also in France, where Brad, partner Angelina Jolie, and their six kids have been residing.

Both professionally and personally, Brad’s life got much better by 10 fold. Angelina has been the greatest inspiration. Their children make Brad’s life whole. What an all-around upgrade from just a few years ago! Congrats Brad!!!

I was never into him during the whole Titanic craze but since he started doing films like The Aviator, Blood Diamond, The Departed, Gangs of New York, Catch Me If You Can etc, I’ve really become a fan of him as an actor & look forward to his films…really looking forward to the one he’s doing/done with Kate Winslet & that other one he’s done with Ridley Scott!
Technically speaking, Leo is a great actor, Brad is very good and clearly underrated.
But those who think box office = Leo are delusional.
Like his counterpart Kate Winslet, both are great but unable to draw box office figures for a decade. I don’t remembered the last time Leo had a hit and draw masses on his sole name.
I hope that this collaboration will both show how much Brad can pull it off and how much the movie can be a hit because of the combination of the two of them as well as the script.
As for the one who accused Brangelin’s fans not accepting other’s opinion, how hypoccrit to single out one side , it is also the other way around when others don’t respect their opinion.
I personaly believe that Leo is the most intense actor between the two while Brad posesss the most charismatic and physical presence. Few actors have that difference. Brando was one of the rare.

Pitt is a very wooden actor, much like another gorgeous man, Gary Cooper. DiCaprio has more range but his looks have taken a downturn. I guess it’s hard to have the two, looks AND talent, together nowadays.

If you understood how movie revenues worked you’d get how big a star Pitt is. He is also huge overseas. His US movies have done very well. Even Fight Club - though not at the BO - continues to bring in the money in the later revenue streams. He is a big and popular name which means a great deal for the later revenue streams which with most films account for 82% of a movie’s revenue.
In more recent years, the Oceans franchise owes a great deal to his participation. I don’t know why you’d discount that. Both Pitt and the studios have made a fortune off those movies. Another example is Mr and Mrs Smith which made $478 million BO worldwide and almost $800 million with later revenue streams. How many of those does he have to be a part of for you to understand why he is in such demand? The studios get his popularity with bth men and women - it doesn’t really matter if you don’t.
Smaller indie movies like Babel (which actually did VERY well) and Jesse James which Warner Brothers in their idiocy “dumped” are irrelevant to this discussion.
This will be a great pairing. There’s no reason for Brad Pitt fans to bash Leo. It is the trolls that come in and start that crap and then blame the fans. Maybe Tarantino is back to doing good movies again. He went to personnally meet w/ Brad to get him to sign on. Tarantino is pretty good w/ casting. I mean who would have thought Travolta at that time would work for Pulp Fiction? But he ended up doing a great job. I hope this is true.

Protesters yelling chants, calling for justice just outside of Angelina’s super-protected private hospital window may have woken up Brad, the new mom and their babies this evening …
Residents in Nice protested this evening outside Lenval Hospital, speaking out against what they say is the mayor’s undue attention to a celebrity birth over the murder of a local youth which, they say, received little attention from officials in the southern French city.
The local family, originally from North Africa, told X17 video cameras they demand justice for their 22 year -old son who was stabbed. The crowd chanted “We want justice!” A protester added that city officials have not paid attention to the boy’s murder and that they have not been allowed to return his body home.
The man said Nice’s mayor, Christian Estrosi, has been “celebrating the birth of the twins with Brad Pitt, meanwhile there has been no murder investigation and the killer [of the 22 year-old boy] is still running free in the city.”
Protesters became enraged and some even tried to enter the hospital. Anti-riot police were brought in and Brad and Angie hired three extra bodyguards to secure the hospital.
Could this be a wake-up call for Brangelina? We respect the couple’s charity work on philanthropy but is the spectacle of their children’s birth and their $70 million-dollar French chateau overshadowing a country’s own, more important news? No doubt it is, but is that Brad and Angelina’s fault or ours, the media’s?

Ummm…why are you guys congratulating Brad? No one has said he’s doing this movie. Just that Tarantino went to France to see if he could talk him into it. Brad is supposed to start shooting “The Fighter” in October. I could be wrong, but I doubt he’ll dump a second Aronofsky project after what happened with “The Fountain”.
Finally, I agree with you. I think that Brad has always wanted to do something else than movies in which he looks nice. More so now, that he has made enough and has taken on different roles besides acting, and not only in show bussiness.
I like Leo too. I liked his work since he was in his teens.
Even if they are blonde and more or less the same “type”, their appeal is different and I cannot compare, I’d go watch a good Leo movie and the same goes for Brad.
I love that Brad goes for drama and comedy too, that he chooses work in different ranges, and is not afraid of acting “weird” or ugly in a movie.
Good for Tarantino, he is not my favorite director, but I like his casting choices and I was impressed by pulp fiction, I had never seen a movie like that before (action movie fan, not gore and horror here) I have to see the Kill Bill movies yet.

Why is there even a Brad vs. Leo debate here? My goodness, why does one have to compare to the other? They are both good actors and they will probably do well together on screen.
Both of them have taken on such different roles throughout their careers that I don’t understand the comparisons you are all giving. Is it necessary to have to claim one is more superior than the other?
Take it as it is- 2 good actors possibly working together. I think it will be a quite interesting combination of actors.

Yep you’re right! Paul was up for the role and he should have gotten it.
Tarantino is a celebaholic and always likes to use big celebrity names in his so so movies. He does this to distract the audience from his poor scripts to make it seem like his movies are bigger than they really are. Granted he has a great sense of style with a 70s edge in his movies that really grabs your attention, but his scripts lack any real depth. I still enjoy watching his movies though, great action. Rodriguez is the real genius behind their scripts. If it’s just Tarantino on his own, the script usually sucks. If it’s Tarantino partnered with Rodriguez, it’s usually pretty awesome.
Truthfully I don’t believe Pitt is really Tarantino’s style as an actor. He’s most likely using Brad, because of all the recent attention to Pitt and Jolie’s newborns.
Paul didn’t get this role and thats sad, but I see it as he lucked out. He shouldn’t waste his talent on a crappy script from Tarantino, I’m sure a better opportunity will come around soon enough.

For all the morons who don’t get what we’re saying - Nikke Finke at Deadlinehollywood.com wrote yesterday that basically the reason no studio has snapped up the foreign distrubution rights to this films is that they’re waiting to see if Tarantino can convince Brad to do the movie. If Brad is in, then every one of the 5 studios approached is going to want to distribute the film. Clearly TPTB in HW know something the trolls don’t - Brad’s name above the title puts butts in seats, especially in foreign markets. If these losers would take 2 minutes to check out the foreign BO for AOJJ they’ll see it was 3 times the US take…in rought the same number or fewer theaters.

With regard to the movie. I don’t see why Pitt shouldn’t do a good job since he has proven himself in other movies. I don’t know enough about Leo’s work personally, I just haven’t wanted to see any of his movies. No fault of his acting, I just don’t have the desire. Hopefully, I’ll have a script review of Quentin Tarantino’s Inglorious ******** in shortly. After marinating on it for a few days, I don’t feel that it’s the knock out of the park that’s been widely reported. One character vital to the script that suffers from weird incongruities is the main antagonist, Colonel Hans Landa aka “The Jew Hunter.” The trades now report that QT will be in talks this week with Leonardo DiCaprio for the role. Last week, Brad Pitt was said to be in talks for the lead role of Lieutenant Aldo Raine, an American soldier from Tennessee who is an out-and-out shitkicker and Nazi nightmare.
Below, I’m going to discuss the parts they’re up for, but it’s spoiler-free. Watch out for the comments, though.
Pitt’s casting would be spot on for the part. We’ve seen him go convincingly gruff and murderous in Fight Club, Se7en, and he can lay on a thick accent, as seen in A River Runs Through It. He’s the right age to play a leader and mythical father figure to his fellow squad of “********.” But while I’m a fan of DiCaprio’s work, he’s just not right for The Jew Hunter, especially if he’s facing off with Pitt. All talent aside, this movie needs to veer away from pretty men. No offense, pretty men. Landa already borders on caricature on the page—he’s also not scary enough for the head ambitious Nazi doosh when the plot’s stakes go high—and while DiCaprio cleans up well and has the eugenics down, let’s face it: Pitt’s Aldo would squash DiCaprio’s Landa with his hands tied. Think the macho mismatch that was Bill the Butcher and DiCaprio’s Amsterdam in Gangs of New York, if Amsterdam rarely got his hands dirty.
These characters need to be equally deadly and even matched for the sake of creating nail biting, if pulpy, tension. DiCaprio would be fine (ironically enough) for the super powered world of Captain America, but anchoring the nastier side of a WWII juggernaut? Not so much. This is not a case where Brains vs Brawn will do the trick. I want to hate Landa’s guts and fear him, not wonder if my girlfriend is having a better time.

Leonardo DiCaprio Tipped For The Jew Hunter in Inglorious ********. Meh.

Hopefully, I’ll have a script review of Quentin Tarantino’s Inglorious ******** in shortly. After marinating on it for a few days, I don’t feel that it’s the knock out of the park that’s been widely reported. One character vital to the script that suffers from weird incongruities is the main antagonist, Colonel Hans Landa aka “The Jew Hunter.” The trades now report that QT will be in talks this week with Leonardo DiCaprio for the role. Last week, Brad Pitt was said to be in talks for the lead role of Lieutenant Aldo Raine, an American soldier from Tennessee who is an out-and-out shitkicker and Nazi nightmare.
Below, I’m going to discuss the parts they’re up for, but it’s spoiler-free. Watch out for the comments, though.
Pitt’s casting would be spot on for the part. We’ve seen him go convincingly gruff and murderous in Fight Club, Se7en, and he can lay on a thick accent, as seen in A River Runs Through It. He’s the right age to play a leader and mythical father figure to his fellow squad of “********.” But while I’m a fan of DiCaprio’s work, he’s just not right for The Jew Hunter, especially if he’s facing off with Pitt. All talent aside, this movie needs to veer away from pretty men. No offense, pretty men. Landa already borders on caricature on the page—he’s also not scary enough for the head ambitious Nazi doosh when the plot’s stakes go high—and while DiCaprio cleans up well and has the eugenics down, let’s face it: Pitt’s Aldo would squash DiCaprio’s Landa with his hands tied. Think the macho mismatch that was Bill the Butcher and DiCaprio’s Amsterdam in Gangs of New York, if Amsterdam rarely got his hands dirty.
These characters need to be equally deadly and even matched for the sake of creating nail biting, if pulpy, tension. DiCaprio would be fine (ironically enough) for the super powered world of Captain America, but anchoring the nastier side of a WWII juggernaut? Not so much. This is not a case where Brains vs Brawn will do the trick. I want to hate Landa’s guts and fear him, not wonder if my girlfriend is having a better time.

A Clayton High School custodian and his wife soon will be able to return home to New Orleans thanks to the good will of actor Brad Pitt and his Make It Right project.
Pitt has teamed up with architects and engineers to help rebuild New Orleans in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, which devastated the city in 2005.
One New Orleans couple, Baxter Barnes and his wife, Melba, ended up in Clayton after evacuating their home in the Lower Ninth Ward before Katrina struck. Pitt and his organization selected the Barneses as a family that would benefit from their rebuilding efforts.
The Barneses followed the news closely in the week leading up to that infamous Sunday morning in August 2005. They tracked the hurricane as it began approaching their hometown.
After seeing the news coverage and hearing the experts’ predictions, they decided to leave their home and head north to Baton Rouge, to the home of their daughter and son-in-law.
“Some people said that they were used to going through hurricanes and were going to be fine,” Baxter Barnes said. “We wanted to get out of there. We knew it was going to be bad.”
When the Barneses left New Orleans to head upstate, the usual 45-minute drive took 14 hours due to the heavy traffic.
“I figured that there would be a lot of traffic, but I didn’t think that it would take us 14 hours to get there,” Barnes said. “They opened up both sides of the road so that all of the lanes were going the same direction.”
Baxter and his wife remained in Baton Rouge for a week, but on Sept. 4, they moved to Fayetteville, the hometown of his son-in-law.
While staying there, Baxter met Clayton High’s then-Principal Jerry Smith, who had heard Barnes’ story and offered him a job at the school.
“Everybody in this area was really nice and helpful. Some churches took us to Wal-Mart and bought us food and whatever we need for our house,” Barnes said. “Even the teachers and CHS volunteered to help with whatever we needed.”
However, there was a bureaucratic mix-up with the county, and Barnes was forced to stop working for the school.
Smith took his case to Johnston County Schools Superintendent Anthony Parker, and eventually they worked it out so that Baxter could continue working despite not meeting all of the qualifications necessary for the position.
Barnes was very thankful to Smith for his efforts.
Smith praised Barnes’ work ethic and personality.
“He’s just a great guy and a super worker,” Smith said. “I knew his situation, and when I talked to the people [in the schools system], I told them, ‘Let’s do what we have to do to make this happen.’”
Smith said he was sad to hear that Barnes would be leaving but that he was happy for him.
“If we could find 20 just like him, we could have the cleanest schools in the state,” he said.
Last month, the Barneses were watching television in their Smithfield home when the phone rang. Baxter looked at the caller ID to see who it was as his wife answered the phone. He stood there in shock while his wife talked to Brad Pitt.
“My wife said he was real concerned and sincere,” said Barnes. “Brad told her, ‘We are going to do this, and we are going to do it right.’”
Pitt called a second time and reassured them that his organization was going to rebuild their home.
The Make It Right project aims to construct homes that reflect the cultural influences of pre-Katrina styles. Architects were called in from all over world to design houses that would help preserve the history and traditions of the area while making them environmentally sound.
Kieran Timberlake Associates out of Pennsylvania designed the Barneses’ new home. It has many new features – such as solar panels – but is made to withstand floods and hurricanes. The home rests on stilts that are designed to move with the motion of the Earth.
The MIR project is headed by Pitt but operates on donations and volunteers. It continues to ask for support to meet its goal of building 150 homes.
Since the conversations with Pitt and Make It Right representatives, the Barneses have been preparing to return home.
While Barnes and his wife are ready to head back to New Orleans, Barnes’ co-workers are not looking forward to seeing him leave.
“We are going to miss Baxter,” said fellow CHS custodian Timothy Pharr. “I hate to see him go.”

Don’t be an idiot all your life, Fuggy. The point wasn’t to compare Brad to other actors like Will Smith or Tom Cruise in his heyday. I purposefully left the 3 Oceans flick off because although Brad WAS a major BO draw for those movies, they weren’t technically his movie. If you don’t think that’s the case, then you need to keep in mind that when the first 2 Oceans moves were made Matt Damon had ONE lead role which had made $100MIL and that was partially due to Robin Williams’ presence.
The first Bourne movie wasn’t out yet when O11 was made. It came out in 2002. It did well at the BO, but it didn’t exactly do much for Damon’s career and if you don’t believe, then think about the movies he made next - Stuck On You, EuroTrip and cameos in movies by Porgie & B. Affleck. The Bourne Surpremacy came out in the summer of 2004 - as O12 was being filmed. It did a bit better at the BO, but still under $300MIL total.
The fact is - Brad was THE major draw of the Oceans movies. Brad is the ONLY one of the three to get a $20+ points deal. Porgie also made money as a producer, but he didn’t walk away from those 3 movies with nearly the loot that Brad did. Do you want me to post Porgie’s pathetic BO numbers? Because I can do that if you want me to beat my point deeper into your numskull.
I could post the numbers all day, but you’re only going to believe what you want to believe. If you go look at Porige’s BO, Matt Damon’s BO WITHOUT THE OCEANS TOTALS…they don’t come close to Brad’s movies - especially not internationally. With Matt Damon you also have to subtract big movies that he only had minor/supporting parts in - like Courage Under Fire & Saving Private Ryan.
If your criteria for comparing Brad is Will Smith or Tom Cruise, Harrison Ford & Eddie Murphy in their heydays, then no, Brad’s numbers aren’t as good. Then again, Brad hasn’t spent his career making mindless crowd pleasers and action romps. BUT…ask any movie studio head who they’d rather cast right now - Brad Pitt or Tom Cruise. We both know the answer to that and it ain’t “Tiny Tom”.

GRIN is developing a game based on the recent Angelina Jolie hit movie Wanted:
Swedish developer Grin is currently working with Universal on a tie-in to the Angelina Jolie and Morgan Freeman action movie Wanted.
The movie has taken over USD 192 million at the box office since release. The game will be published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment.
“From the time we read the script and saw the film’s pre-visual material, it was clear that Wanted was a powerful property – one that was well poised to deliver an engaging gaming experience,” commented Bill Kispert, VP and general manager for Universal Pictures Digital Platforms Group.
This shows how Brad follows through on his comittments, he does not walk away as some do. He is Making It Right just as he promised.

Personally I would love too see what will happen with Tarantino directing Leo and Brad.
I think Bras has been underestimated because of his looks and that he is starting to be more appreciated for his acting. though I have loved him since Thelm and Louise.

Anyway, I have one granddaughter and she legally is considered a “B” child. Mom and dad are together just not married, plans are that they will marry, someday….But, I despise the term and think about how legally she is considered this. I also hadn’t thought of the fact, that it’s really not a derrogatory term, it’s just how it’s used.

Leo & Brad! woo hoo what a great pair to headline a film. I love it. I don’t really love Quentin Tarantino though and his movies. But these two are so beyond box office is just ridiculous. I really love where Leo’s head is at in terms of making movies. He says no to obvious blockbusters like that “awful” (his words) Titanic and does more niche films. Good for him. Brad has been moving in that direction for a while. He alternates between box office junk food and niche art house movies.

And I suspect that if they do get some foreign money into this film that Brad will only get $5 million for it, because he can’t pull people in since TROY, and that flopped here. Babel flopped here.
They did better oversease, but I don’t think Tarantino is the golden boy anymore, neither is Leo, nor Pitt. These are like 3 old men who used to be the “it” people making a MOVIE together to try and get the “old magic” again.
But it won’t work.
There are so many other BETTER directors around!

You do realize that the overseas market makes up roughly 63% of a HW movies gross these days. Only 37% is made in the U.S.A. And there are few actors/actresses that are huge overseas. Brad happens to be one of the biggest HW actors overseas/world wide.
In the last 3 years he’s had 3 hit movies. M&MS, Babel made over 100 million overseas and everyone assoc. with that movie, credits Brad as the reasons why. The movie had subtitles and it still made 135M and cost 22-25M to make.
With movie production costs so high, the studios will only fund big budget movies for stars with World Wide appeal. That’s where they make most of their money. That’s why a lot of the studios are now handling WW distribution, instead of partnering up with an overseas dist. company.
Will Smith has been very open and honest about his movie strategy. He and his manager did a lot of research to find out which movies made the most money. Action movies and movies involving aliens and that’s the track he took. He makes no apologies about it and he shouldn’t. It’s worked out well for him.

LOL. Now way is Brad only going to get $5MIL for this movie if he does it. The studios are practically salivating at the prospect of Brad doing this movie. He’s got them in the position Russell Crowe had Universal in after Brad walked away from SOP. Brad will pull down his usualy salary of $20-25MIL + points. That poster was an idiot. Babel cost $20MIL to make and made $135,302,837 worldwide at the box office and The-Numbers.com lists another $31,416,351 in DVD sales. It doesn’t list DVD rentals though.
Paramount Vantage spent $20MIL + probably another $20MIL in marketing and ended up with a movie that made a minimum of $166MIL - roughly 4X what they spent. Any company in the world would KILL ( and have) to make back their investment times 4!

Will Smith has been very open and honest about his movie strategy. He and his manager did a lot of research to find out which movies made the most money. Action movies and movies involving aliens and that’s the track he took. He makes no apologies about it and he shouldn’t. It’s worked out well for him.

Great post, O2, and excellent point about Will Smith. For instance - last week Will revealed that he’d been asked to play Superman in the revival of the series and turned it down. His reasoning? “You don’t mess with white people’s heroes.” Will said he was very much aware of the limitations of what kinds of movies people will accept him in and expect to see him in…and Superman wasn’t one of them. That’s like Brad saying he turned down Spiderman because it’s not the type of movie he’s interested in doing, but it’s also not something his fans want to see him in.

Will Smith has made no bones about saying, he set out to become the biggest movie star in the world. After Wild West bombed so badly, he’s also admitted to being afraid and that’s why he agreed to do both Men in Black 2 and Bad Boys 2. The first installments were successful and that’s what he went back to. Being safe. Like, I said, it’s worked out well for him and it’s gotten him where he wanted to be and good for him.
David Fincher once said of Brad, that you never know what you’re going to get from him because he doesn’t like doing the same kinds of things over again. That’s why I was surprised that Brad did O12 and 013. He turned down both The Matrix and the first Bourne movie because they wanted a sequel clause in the contract and he didn’t want to do sequels.
I always have to laugh at those that say Troy bombed. Sucker made 497M at the ww box office and at least another 250M in rentals and sales world wide. Yep, big bomb. LMAO! And I hated Troy.

Oh, but you forgot that Brad made these very uninspired movies, back when he was a sad, miserable lonely uninspired man who was chained to the no-talent homely TV sit-com hack Jen Aniston. He was a dead man walking, his movies reflected that. They were either bad like the Mexican, or they were last gasps to sustain a career after gross neglect (O13, Troy, etc).
Now Brad is a man operating at the height of his artistic power, as he’s with another artist of the same caliber, he’s in love, he’s a dad, he’s inspired and feeling confident, assured, encouraged by his loved ones (not guilted out as in his hellish Maniston days) and empowered. We the film going public are grateful that Brad Pitt the movie star is BACK, and no longer saddled with a TV sitcom hack at cheesey TV award shows sitting next to Ray Romano. Bahaha :-D Brad is where he belongs, making critically acclaimed and lauded films and hanging with his peers and movie star legends. Not schlepping with the TV hag Aniston, and the Botox Arquettes at cable TV events.

ITA. And I read some where 4 years after, Troy was still the most frequently shown HBO movies all over the world. that means the studio was still earning tons of residual from this movie.

They are protesting the mayor and his actions. I say good because he was very un French. He should have stayed out of the limelight. a man died and the people are muslim so they want the body back for a proper muslim burial but they body is not being released because of the investigation going on. They came to the hospital because that’s where it will get them attention to their cause. In france just like the US if someone gets murdered it has nothing to do with the mayor, the police/ the DA or in france’s case the judge handles that. They want the mayor to help them but quiet honestly I don’t know what he can do in this case. In france there’s a lot of tension between muslims and the french. “Miller can boast a high-profile ex-wife: Angelina Jolie, who gave birth last week to twins with husband Brad Pitt.
When a reporter asked if Jolie might appear on “Eli Stone” and if Miller would be willing to call her, the actor replied: “You’ll have to call her, I’m afraid.”
