Christian Bale Arrested on Assault
Christian Bale walks the red carpet at the UK premiere of The Dark Knight held at the Odeon, Leicester Square on Monday.
The Dark Knight star allegedly lashed out and assaulted his mother and sister at London’s Dorchester hotel on Sunday, where he has a suite. Bale’s mother Jenny, 61, and sister Sharon, 40, went to a police station on Monday to lodge a formal complaint against him.
Bale was allowed to go to the premiere but police in London were expected to question him soon after.
A Met Police spokesman said: “A 34-year-old man attended a London Police Station on Tuesday by appointment and was arrested in connection with an allegation of assault.”

Maybe his mom and sister wanted money and to go to the premire. I have heard horror stories about family wanting everything from the family member that makes it big, giving guilt treatments on how the don’t care about the family unless they take care of everyone finanically. That is why there are some celebrities that don’t talk to their families anymore.
I would not talk to my mom or sister again after this.

this is too weird….last night, i was telling my husband how much i liked christian and how even though he started out as a child actor…he had always seemed to stay out of trouble and was really coming into great success….i hope this is a misunderstanding of some sort…..of what sort…i can’t even begin to guess….unless his mom and sis are shady?
i just googled the story and it’s alreay everywhere. i bet the pressure of hearing all about heath ledger’s performance being praised beyond reason finally pushed him over the edge. i can handle one of my co workers getting praised at work but when i’m totally over looked i get a bit on edge and pissy. i’m sure that wasn’t all of it, but it’s so weird that it happened right in the middle of the batman frenzy. i hope he can bounce back, i really like christian and still do.
His mom and sister are alcoholics and drug addicts, they showed up at his hotel uninvited and highly intoxicated. they were calling him big shot and that he needs to take care of his own. His mom was yelling that he would be nothing without her and he owed her. His sister was begging for money and when he was pushing her toward the door his mother came from behind and started hitting him on his head and kicking him. He managed to push them both out the door and his mom fell, they called the police and wanted him arrested. I believe that Chirstian is the victim here not his mom or sister

My father works security at the hotel, and he said it was a mess. His mom and sister wanted the front desk worker to let them into his room to wait for him. When they were told no they started cussing and yelling. they sat in front of his door for an hour until he finally arrived.
I can’t believe everyone is assuming that Christian’s mom and sister started the altercation. Personally, I don’t know what happened and I’m reserving judgment until more is known. Until both sides are heard, no one will know the truth.

Aw, poor baley. I don’t think his mom and sister would charge assault charges against him, unless he has a long history of assault. I’ve never heard anything about him being an angry, aggressive person before. I doubt this is anything serious. Hopefully this will all blow over. If his mom and sister do charge him and its for money… than obviously they just want a piece of his cheese. With Dark Night record breaking at the box office, he sure has a lot of dough now for people to start making accusations to get a piece. I hope thats not the case!

The story is everywhere on the net now. I seriously think his mom and the sister are up to something. How could you turn a family member in? It doesn’t make any sense. I would wait for the facts before we can make any judgement. Christian has so much going for him, wife and child and awesome career. There has got to be more to it than this. I can not believe he would do something like this. I hope its all a misunderstanding. But anything can be seen as an assult this days so it may not be anything serious. If he did push his mother out of the way, just laying a hand on her to do that could be seen as an assult.
I hope it comes out that he has had problems with his mom and sister before, so he can clear his name. He will not be losing me as a fan, I have heard too many horror stories like this before. Money does really stupid things to so called family. I know, when my uncle died and gave money to his children some of the family acted in a way I would have never guessed. I agree with everyone that thinks something smells fishy. Of all the actors that I’d have no problem believing this about, Christian just isn’t one of them. Maybe he did do it but something tells me it would have taken a lot on their part to make it happen.

Christian Bale went thru a lot of financial woes about 8 years ago before he got noticed in the movie The Machinist to the point where his house was even bank re-possessed. He and his wife were childless for a number of years. At this high point in his life, I don’t think he would just throw that all away, by making a full of himself. With that said, you people, should just sit back, cool it and don’t judge.
You have your own skeletons in your closet that you need to face up to instead of getting at kick out of other people’s misery.

It’s amazing how many people make judgments about a situation they (at this point) know nothing about. Could he be a complete jerk who would hit his own mother and sister? Maybe. Is it a set-up? Maybe. Could the mother and sister be nasty, greedy, horrible people who are making Bale’s life hell? Maybe.
Point is, we just don’t know. The police will arrest anyone for assult, even if all they did was give a shove–I know some cops and I know espcially in domestic situations, the police will err on the side of the “victim” (even if it was a mutual fight, or the accused was provoked)

Guys I think we are all in denial land. He asulted his mother and sis, why are we trying to bale him out. Im very sorry this happened because i love this guy as an actor. Now I just am very confused at his actions if he has a temper now that is comming to the surface.
Something about this doesn’t sound quite right. Why didn’t they report this to the London police(they reported it at another station)? Obviously, Bale didn’t want them there, it doesn’t seem they were invited, seems like they were trying to hassle him. I would believe this about many other actors, but I have difficulty believing about him, especially since he’s such a private person and this couldn’t come at a more bad time for him. It’s beyond suspicious and I’m very skeptical.
My GUESS, and it’s only a GUESS. They were hounding him for money, etc., etc. and he got fed up to the hilt and lashed out. I think many stars have lurking in the background greedy relatives who are constantly trying to suck money from them. I have heard that Bette Davis had such a sister and of course we know about the Home Alone boy and his parents, and I think Kirsten Dunst’s mother and brother live off of her (so I have read). I am sure it is one of the downsides for many big stars.

I might add that a notable exception to this syndrome was Shirley Temple and more recently Daniel Radcliffe whose parents are very wise about all of his new found wealth.

I’m sure with all the stress from traveling and trying to to also be a family guy in the midst of the press surrounding him right now he could be a bit *snappish* but I really just don’t see it.

i think that this is just the tip of the iceberg; so to speak. look christian has been acting since he was a child. his work as a child star more than likely put money in his mother’s pocket. now that he’s an adult christian must feel that he shouldn’t have to support either his mother or his sister. it may be that these two women have been after him for money and he snapped. had enough!!

When they were told no they started cussing and yelling. they sat in front of his door for an hour until he finally arrived.
May I just add that the terms mom and cussing are Americanisms that are not used in England, over here it’d mum and cursing.

I bet that his mother and sister was being supported by him monetarily. Maybe he was just tired of being their meal ticket and got into an argument. Whatever the reason for this altercation , I DO NOT think he is an abuser or a bad person. I think his family needs to leave him alone. I mean what the hell, why did his mother and sister call the cops if it was just a verbal thing. Guaranteed they want publicity so they’re riding Bales fame.

If the victim has not actually been touched, but only threatened, then the crime is considered to be ASSAULT. If the victim has been actually touched by the person committing the crime, then BATTERY has occurred.
Usually assualt and battery go hand in hand, so the very fact that he was only accused of assault means that he showed restraint.

While Bale is in G.B. , people need to remember that in the US there are 50 different criminal jurisdictions in addition to federal jurisdiction. Each jurisdiction defines its own offenses. In federal jurisdiction and the District of Columbia, for example, there is no difference between assault and battery. In fact, there is no battery. The offense is assault. It can be a mere unwanted touching. It can be spitting. No physical injury is required. Even threatening behavior can be considered an assault such as pointing a gun at someone. Threats is a separate offense.
Christian Bale is innocent until proven guilty. Period. That being said none of us knows what happened in that suite. I also assume none of us knows Mr. Bale personally and can say what he would or wouldn’t have done.
I believe in England they have something they call “a warning,” whereby they elect not to prosecute and sort of “warn” you not to do it again. Something like that. I doubt they’ll formally charge him. Especially if the complainants aren’t interested in going forward. I am sure there are a number of ways for the system to deal with this without prosecuting Bale.

Edna, I believe you. Those who say that from now on will stop being fans of Christian are dead wrong. Lucky for them if they don’t or didn’t have abusive parents, especially siblings. I think the mother and sister didn’t have anything to do there. He is a grown man, making his own living and have a family and children to take care of. The sister has 3 kids and ask his brother to give her money to raise her children and the mother agrees with that and insults his own son and denounce him? That’s what you call a mother? And as someone just said: I will never talk to them again. Period.
He should disown those idiots.
Assault is not defined as Battery, do not get the two confused. Assault can mean physical contact, but is also defined as verbal threats or words of a violent nature. Christian Bale is known to be passionate and, at times, verbally aggressive. Weather of not the allegations are true, we must keep in mind that we were not present and cannot make judgements.
