Mia Wasikowska is Alice in Wonderland

Australian actress Mia Wasikowska is slated to star in the new adaption of Lewis Carroll’s classic fantasy novel Alice in Wonderland.

In the director’s chair is Tim Burton (Bettle Juice, Batman, Edward Scissorhands, Sweeney Todd). According to THR, Alice and Wonderland will be shot with live-action and performance-capture footage and presented in Disney Digital 3-D.

Filming begins this November.

Wasikowska, 18, will next appear opposite Daniel Craig in the war drama Defiance and just completed filming the role of a young Amelia Earhart fan in Mira Nair’s biopic Amelia, starring Hilary Swank.

Umm… isn’t Alice supposed to be like, 10 or something? In the novels, she’s young enough to be bored by books that don’t have pictures or illustrations in them. Why’s an 18 year old playing her? I don’t get it.

I am totally happy for Mia Wasikowska. Anyone who watches her on “In Treatment” knows that she is an AMAZING actress. It’s great to see her working with great directors like Tim Burton, Edward Zwick and Mira Nair. She is going far!

ehhh…I was more excited about the Amanda Seyfried casting rumor. This Mia girl looks like she’s been on a ten day heroin binge..but then again, I guess Burton liked that. I still say Seyfried would have made a better Alice. She looks the part for one thing, and I think she has the acting depth too. Oh well, I’m sure I’ll still check this out.

Victoria, Mia has done the first season of “In Treatment”, a HBO series. She plays Sophie and she is an amazing actress.

Shannon I don’t get it either. Even if they wanted the movie to have a darker feel they could still have used a young child. I just can’t see Alice in Wonderland with an 18 year old.

I’ve heard she is a goog actress but she certainly looks NOTHING like Alice. Also, Alice is only 12! She’s a little girl! She isn’t an adult! Again, Alice is from England not AUSTRALIA! Honestly, Tim, you could have found someone alot younger, alot more like Alice, and if not YOU SHOULD HAVE DONE STOP ANIMATION!
