OlderJon Voight: Barack Obama Will Weaken America
Jon Voight has taken a very public stance for the Republican nominee for President, Sen. John McCain. The 69-year-old actor had some very strong words for Sen. Barack Obama and shared them with The Washington Times:
“Sen. Barack Obama has grown up with the teaching of very angry, militant white and black people: the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, Louis Farrakhan, William Ayers and Rev. Michael Pfleger. We cannot say we are not affected by teachers who are militant and angry. We know too well that we become like them, and Mr. Obama will run this country in their mindset.
“The Democratic Party, in its quest for power, has managed a propaganda campaign with subliminal messages, creating a God-like figure in a man who falls short in every way. It seems to me that if Mr. Obama wins the presidential election, then Messrs. Farrakhan, Wright, Ayers and Pfleger will gain power for their need to demoralize this country and help create a socialist America.
“And while a misleading portrait of Mr. Obama is being perpetrated by a media controlled by the Democrats, the Obama camp has sent out people to attack the greatness of Sen. John McCain, whose suffering and courage in a Hanoi prison camp is an American legend… If, God forbid, we live to see Mr. Obama president, we will live through a socialist era that America has not seen before, and our country will be weakened in every way.”

McCain is the most real person to run for the job of president, obviously. We cannot afford to make mistakes based on the fan magazine style information coming about the democrat candidate. And Voight thinks Obama will ruin the country. Obama is a thinking human being. he will surround himself with exceptional people who will work to sort out the mess the Cheney/Bush regime has left for the American people. I believe he will do his absolute best to be a good president. McCain is a puppet of the right. Watch who he picks as his running mate, and check his connections to the corrupt Rove group. It is funny and ironic that on a political level Angie would discuss policy with someone of Voight’s political leaning whereas he would have nothing to do with any perceived ‘liberal’ like her and yet on a personal level he wants to have dialogue with her and she doesn’t with him (well, maybe, DIDN’T is a better word). Anyway I much much much prefer Angie’s politics. She nicely blends idealism with pragmatism. While Jon and others give their views and wave their placards Angie gets her hands dirty. Unlike many on both sides of the political spectrum she is no dilettante and no party cheerleader.

And I love how the military officials themselves, right on the ground, report back on how their tanks are still improperly shielded and they are lacking in basic safety materials that result in countless preventable deaths.
OMG…I always defended Jon Voight on behalf of a reunion with Angelina Jolie, but I think I’ve just been enlightened as to WHY she has little to do with him. Yes, I can see now they are from entirely different worlds.
I’m from California and voted for Hillary because she is a peer, however I would never vote for McCain who will present America and the world with a worsening third term McBush. Because John McCain did not learn from the Vietnam War, he should never be elected to sit in the Oval Office.
No matter what Senator Clinton said during that highly contested Democratic race, she would never encourage a woman to support a McCain presidency. The reason she, ultimately, lost to Senator Obama was due to the fact that her campaign was poorly run from the very beginning. Unfortunately, a lot of non-Democratic racists who “might” have voted for her in the General Election are using Obama as a scapegoat for her loss!
I’m an Independent and can fairly state that no true Democrat would crossover in this particular election of all elections. Guess some people haven’t suffered enough, yet, eh?!

And McCain did the same thing-left his wife when he returned home from Vietnam because she had an accident while he was away and was not as pretty as she once was. I’m not making that up-google it, and you’ll see. Besides, McCain suffering in Vietnam does not necessarily mean he would make a good president. Besides, US soldiers did horrendous inhumane things in Vietnam which have been well documented. They too displayed the militant teachings that Voight is speaking out against.

Remembered Angie, like many adoptive mother feared that Brad couldn’t love all of her children the same way. It’s when she saw him so naturally father to Mad and Z that she let go the fears of having a bio child that would have endangered the emotional loving balance between the bio and the adoptive if ever Brad or any man behave differently.

Obama’s race has little to do with why people are distrustful of him. As much as Voight is a right wing nut, Obama is a liberal lunatic. McCain is more moderate than conservative, and that’s something the country needs now more than ever. Third, a recent study just released says that while Barack Obama is getting more news media coverage then McCain, 72% of his coverage is negative. This is a University study not owned by any candidate.
Fourth, the people John Voight named as big influences on Obama didn’t even meet him until he was grown, married and a lawyer. They never influenced him at all. The man is 46 years old. These are people he just met in the past 16 years or less. So he was 30 by the time he met any of them, if not older.
The spot for presidency is not based on looks (COME ON PEOPLE) Thats gets me so irritated knowing that some people are this ignorant and are going to be voting based on this. I dont agree with Jon Voight. I think Obama is going to be a great change for America. I dont think to much of Mccain, although I do like how he talks alot about the enviroment. I hope Obama will talk more about enviromental issues soon. All I hear Mccain doing is blasting, Obama this Obama that. Obama seems more positive and is very motivational. I have faith in him. Plus, I dont think anybody could do a worse job than what has been done the past 8 years. We need help to fight terrorists. The Germans caught the people plotting against us from September 11th. That’s why it’s called the Hamburg Terrorist Cell. Right after the two towers at WTC were hit, we didn’t have enough planes to fly defensive patrols. FRENCH fighter jets helped us, by patrolling the skies over New York harbor immediately following the attacks. They were happy to do it. We threw away all that good will by going to war with Iraq for nothing. Osama bin Laden is still alive!

Justice for Darfur

BAHAI, Chad — Here, at this refugee camp on the border of Sudan, nothing separates us from Darfur but a small stretch of desert and a line on a map. All the same, it’s a line I can’t cross. As a representative of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, I have traveled into Darfur before, and I had hoped to return. But the UNHCR has told me that this camp, Oure Cassoni, is as close as I can get.
Sticking to this side of the Sudanese border is supposed to keep me safe. By every measure — killings, rapes, the burning and looting of villages — the violence in Darfur has increased since my last visit, in 2004. The death toll has passed 200,000; in four years of fighting, Janjaweed militia members have driven 2.5 million people from their homes, including the 26,000 refugees crowded into Oure Cassoni.
Attacks on aid workers are rising, another reason I was told to stay out of Darfur. By drawing attention to their heroic work — their efforts to keep refugees alive, to keep camps like this one from being consumed by chaos and fear — I would put them at greater risk.
I’ve seen how aid workers and nongovernmental organizations make a difference to people struggling for survival. I can see on workers’ faces the toll their efforts have taken. Sitting among them, I’m amazed by their bravery and resilience. But humanitarian relief alone will never be enough.
Until the killers and their sponsors are prosecuted and punished, violence will continue on a massive scale. Ending it may well require military action. But accountability can also come from international tribunals, measuring the perpetrators against international standards of justice.
Accountability is a powerful force. It has the potential to change behavior — to check aggression by those who are used to acting with impunity. Luis Moreno-Ocampo, chief prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC), has said that genocide is not a crime of passion; it is a calculated offense. He’s right. When crimes against humanity are punished consistently and severely, the killers’ calculus will change.
On Monday I asked a group of refugees about their needs. Better tents, said one; better access to medical facilities, said another. Then a teenage boy raised his hand and said, with powerful simplicity, “Nous voulons une épreuve.” We want a trial. He is why I am encouraged by the ICC’s announcement yesterday that it will prosecute a former Sudanese minister of state and a Janjaweed leader on charges of crimes against humanity.
Some critics of the ICC have said indictments could make the situation worse. The threat of prosecution gives the accused a reason to keep fighting, they argue. Sudanese officials have echoed this argument, saying that the ICC’s involvement, and the implication of their own eventual prosecution, is why they have refused to allow U.N. peacekeepers into Darfur.
It is not clear, though, why we should take Khartoum at its word. And the notion that the threat of ICC indictments has somehow exacerbated the problem doesn’t make sense, given the history of the conflict. Khartoum’s claims aside, would we in America ever accept the logic that we shouldn’t prosecute murderers because the threat of prosecution might provoke them to continue killing?
When I was in Chad in June 2004, refugees told me about systematic attacks on their villages. It was estimated then that more than 1,000 people were dying each week.
In October 2004 I visited West Darfur, where I heard horrific stories, including accounts of gang-rapes of mothers and their children. By that time, the UNHCR estimated, 1.6 million people had been displaced in the three provinces of Darfur and 200,000 others had fled to Chad.
It wasn’t until June 2005 that the ICC began to investigate. By then the campaign of violence was well underway.
As the prosecutions unfold, I hope the international community will intervene, right away, to protect the people of Darfur and prevent further violence. The refugees don’t need more resolutions or statements of concern. They need follow-through on past promises of action.
There has been a groundswell of public support for action. People may disagree on how to intervene — airstrikes, sending troops, sanctions, divestment — but we all should agree that the slaughter must be stopped and the perpetrators brought to justice.
In my five years with UNHCR, I have visited more than 20 refugee camps in Sierra Leone, Congo, Kosovo and elsewhere. I have met families uprooted by conflict and lobbied governments to help them. Years later, I have found myself at the same camps, hearing the same stories and seeing the same lack of clean water, medicine, security and hope.
It has become clear to me that there will be no enduring peace without justice. History shows that there will be another Darfur, another exodus, in a vicious cycle of bloodshed and retribution. But an international court finally exists. It will be as strong as the support we give it. This might be the moment we stop the cycle of violence and end our tolerance for crimes against humanity.
What the worst people in the world fear most is justice. That’s what we should deliver.

*There are exceptions. In the case of the Aga Khan, leader of the world’s 15 million Ismaili Muslims, both his first wife (British) and second wife (German) converted to Islam and adopted Muslim names. The Aga Khan’s son married an American girl, who also converted to Islam and adopted the name Khaliya.

I don’t actually have an opinion on which nominee would be a better president for the US. I also believe it is the job of a US president to place American interests in the forefront when making decisions regarding foreign policy. However, it is clear that the US is a member of the world community and it is very often therefore in the best interests of the US to be a good neighbour. After all, unlike an individual, it isn’t possible for any country, even the US to change their neighbourhood!! This is also, I believe the over all guiding policy of US foreign policy.
What I find totally laughable about Jon Voight’s rant is that he talks about how young men are infected by their elders and their teachers. The first thought that came to my mind was “oh, like he really believes it given how he cheated and left his wife and was largely an absentee father.”
ON a less personal note, I don’t agree with his statements at all. Just look at Japan and Germany and then also look at Vietnam, China, Cambodia, Eastern Bloc Countries, and so on. Throughout the first half of the 20th Century, Germans were engaged in 2 major world wars against their neighbours - surely their people were taught to hate. The Japanese were in conflict with the China for most of the 1930s (Japan invaded China ad its territories in 1932, long before the start of the Second World war). You’d think there were many angry young men and women who were taught to hate the brits, the jews, the chinese the koreans and so on. Yet, when WWII ended, people do see things differently and can change.
Similarly, look at China or Vietnam. YOung Chinese, Vietnamese and Cambodians were taught to hate on America and the decadent West. Some of these young men and women are from my own generation - I’ve met them, talked to them, worked with them. I know one man who was in his teenage years, the leader of the RED GUARDS in China during the cultural revolution and who actually denounced his own father. And you know something?? Many of them have, including this chinese ex red guard, are Americans or Australians or Brits or Canadians and proudly so.
What does this mean?
It means people grow and change. It means that intelligent people reflect on what they have been taught and decide whether the teachings are good or relevant in their lives. Those values are rejected or embraced as appropriate. Just look at your own lives. If we adopted the values of our mothers and our mothers mothers, then the number of divorces initiated by women would be far smaller then it is today. Clearly, many women saw fit to reject the values of our mothers and grandmothers as our own circumstances changed.
What JOn Voight’s op-ed in the Washington Times (which is a right wing paper and NOT Washington POST) show is that he has rather extreme views about the Black Movement - which when you consider the segregation of the times including how laws against interracial marriages between blacks and whites were finally removed only in 1968, might well have resulted in some radicals such as Louis Farrakhan etc developing. (I still remember reading about busing and segregated schools and that happened in the 1970s for heavens sakes).
So to me, its not that Jon Voight doesn’t support Obama policies, be it on taxes or Iraq that matters. It’s all this warbling about Obama’s ALLEGED influences that’s nasty.
And yes you do get a glimpse of what Angelina, James and Marcheline had to suffer. No wonder James talked about how his mother was abused.
Thank goodness there are more people speaking up who dislike Obama. For a while there it seemed like people were brainwashed when it came to this guy.

Of Muslim, Intellectuals and Would-be President
It saddens me as an American that Mr Obama is distancing himself from his own heritage. His father is a Muslim, and her mother is white American. His overt action to distance himself from sitting besides Muslim women in a rally is a glimpse of the man who may very well be the President of the United States.
There is, arguably, reasons why Muslims are being persecuted. Our experiences are defined by 9-11. Right or wrong - it is a fact that we blanket them as terrorist. Of late, Mr. Obama’s associations with Reverend White, and race monger Louis Farrakhan, have unfortunately held as reasons why white Americans voiced their concerns with the presumptive Democratic nominee.
There are interest groups that will not vote for Mr. Obama because he is Black. Having a named Barrack Hussein Obama triggers Muslim Terrorist sympathisers. Fictions transform to Facts, and Facts to Fictions. These interest groups are just too busy being morons, if you ask me.
Regrettably, Obama’s well organized campaign will immediately deny another well rehearsed mantra: “he is not a Muslim”, ” he is a Christian”, and a good excused for erasing that Muslim heritage- “abandoned by his Muslim father”. Why the cold andsubtle indifference to his Muslim heritage ? Fatal mistake, again if you ask me.
But has anyone ever told you that FACT IS STUBORN” ? He is the product of a bi-racial union - White American and a MUSLIM father. Obama is obviously a learned, and intellectual man. True to his heritage as a Muslim. It should please the Muslim Nation that more than 1/3 of the top intellectual and free thinkers are MUSLIMS. The top ranking #1 intellectual in this universe is a MUSLIM.
No. 1 on the list is Fethullah Gulen, a Muslim religious leader from Turkey. In fact, the top 10 of the leading 20 are all Muslim thinkers from countries with dominant Muslim populations. Albert Gore, an American was a consolation price for us, Americans.
On a personal experience, Gulen lives in my state - Pennsylvania, and had the honor of interviewing him on 2 separate occasions. He refused on 5 occasions to meet with me. I was persistence. While waiting for the umph time at the reception area, he finally gave up. His first words were ” why would a 20-year-old-waif be interested in my work’, and my retort was “why would an old buzzard from Turkey yearns for free speech and religion ?” He smiled. I was in. He has since called me “my pupil”, and I lovingly held him as “the professor”
So why suddenly, would Mr. Obama distance himself to this glorious heritage ? Muslim hatred has become political pawn, and is bartered for political expediency. I don’t know what resides in Mr. Obama’s heart. But his subtle but all telling demeanor, gives me a glimpse of the man who will be sitting in Oval Office.

Angie visited Iraq recently when she was pregnant. She said that she thought the US troops needed to stay in, and that we (US) needed to spend more money on rebuilding the country. Doesn’t exactly agree with Obama’s stance; altho, I have no idea who she supports for Prez.

She also said that she thinks the troops should stay and help the refugees come back and resettle in their country. That takes time.
There are roughly four million Iraqi refugees and displaced people, most of them in Syria and Jordan.
We certainly don’t know who will get Angelina’s vote.

Sorry to tell you, he is speaking the truth about Obama. Watch the world news or Hannity & Colmes for a couple of days and you’ll see this. You can’t judge the safety and obligations of who you choose as your president by whether or not other countries in the world agree with a certain presidential candidate. It is the same concept of a preacher who goes out to save the world and loses his own family. It doesn’t work. By the way, Angie is not a democrat, she is an independent. She also wrote in the same magazine, as her father, in support of McCain on the importance of staying in Iraq until there is stability from within, as we should, lest it falls apart again and another 9/11. Her father is not racist. Just because he is a white male, speaking his own beliefs about a candidate who happens to be bi-racial, does not mean he is racist. You can’t play that card all the time. I can’t believe you are congratulating Angelina for cutting herself off from her father — first of all, we don’t know why she did so, and secondly, you actually think that it is OK to cut yourself off from a family member because of politics? I also find it interesting that you are questioning Voight’s sanity, saying he’s an “ignorant moron,” and other awful things about him because he dares to speak his mind. Many of you have even chastised him for having a political stance, reminding us that “he’s just an actor.” Do you feel the same when Sheryl Crow or Oprah Winfrey or Jennifer Aniston do the same? Firstly, Angelina Jolie is in touch with her father and she will not turn her back to him, just because he doesn’t like Obama.
Secondly, we have NO IDEA whom Angelina will vote, if she does. She has not supported Obama either. It’s Brad and his close friends, not her.
Thirdly, who cares who European likes as an American President, all the European countries will nicely deal with any President of U.S.A. because they HAVE TO. Look, how good they are with Bush. Noone has the guts to reject Bush who is always welcome unfortunately.

The only people still left in the world who thinks the U.S. is calling the shots are the average Americans themselves. At this point China could ruin you, not by military action but by simply cutting off your money supply and demanding you pay off your debts to them. The MSM seems pro-Obama. Three anchors went with him on his trip. Another poster said that there was a rock concert in Berlin on the day BHO spoke.
You should have never picked McCain. Romney although not perfect was at least a man with substance. You should have never picked Obama, but rather Clinton (she’s cold and objective, something which some of you see as a negative, but me as a positive. She’s not supposed to be your best friend but your superior) or even Edwards (though the latest press about him as been anything but encouraging).
Mitt Romney is a Mormon. That’s probably one reason he was not eligible. Maybe he will be McCain’s choice for Veep.

Jon Voight has a point here. Obama’s background is still a mystery for some. Age is not the only main factor to be president. Ronald Reagan is older than McCain and he served two terms successfully. Angie and Jon’s disagreement however is private. Angie said in one recent interview that they are already communicating in private.
