Vanessa Hudgens is the September 2008 cover girl for Teen Vogue. Here are some choice quotes from her interview:
On graduating from the High School Musical franchise: “It’s sad. This is our last time doing a movie together, and we love each other so much. We really grew up together. We can be free when we’re around one another, and the amount of fun we have is ridiculous.”
On her personal love life with Zac Efron: “I keep my relationship quiet. I think that works.”
On her style matching the ease of her California upbringing: “I like putting things together that you would not expect. It’s always me.”
On proceeding with extreme caution in choosing her next project: “I don’t want to do something that messes me up mentally. I think people just don’t realize that sometimes actors can really take it in and become that person.”
On being extremely proud of her HSM character: “I love that Gabriella is Hispanic. It’s nice to be able to stand up for people who don’t have someone to look up to very often.”
The September 2008 issue of Teen Vogue is on sale nationwide Tuesday, August 5.

I’ve never seen anything like the comments on Vanessa threads on JJ. No matter what she says or does, there are people that are always going to put a negative spin on it. What’s the big deal? She’s part hispanic and is proud to represent them as a positive role model. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with that.
What’s the deal? She didn’t harm anyone or pretend to be something she’s not. Please get over it.

JJ (aside from vanashbrenique) is the only gossip site that has supporters for this oblivious p.o.c. everywhere else is full of “haters”

#46 I think what people aren’t understanding is how is what she said ignorant? You adimt that the typical depiction of hispanic characters are as drug dealers, gang members, teen mothers, etc. Gabrella Montez is a definte departure from that.
Nobody is saying there are postivie influences for Hispanic people to look up to. Just that mainstream Hollywood doesn’t present them very often. Those are the key words in her statement “very often.” I see nothing wrong with what she said.
I also want to address the people who are jumping on Vanessa for her remark about not wanting to play something that will mess her up mentally. Daniel Day Lewis turned down the role of Lestat in “Interview with the Vampire” for that reason. He didn’t want to deal with that kind of darkness day in and day out. Would anybody consider him a “bad method actor?”
More recently there has been spectualation that the effect playing the Joker in “The Dark Knight” had on Heath Ledger played some role in his death. I’m not sure I buy that but who knows?
So Vanessa is right sometimes “Actors can really take it in.”
So knock it off and cut her some slack.

Pssst and Millie - You really need to try and act like you know what you’re talking about. As far as the album, it is true and you can check it out, Hollywood Records did very little promoting and that’s a fact. And not every site is negative to Vanessa….there are many that adore her, and we’re not talking tweens and teens only. Anyone who hates Vanessa is either jealous of her career, her talent, her beauty, or lastly, her boyfriend. No, she’s not perfect, but then who is. The fact of the matter is, we, her fans, love her despite her imperfections and always will.

She said very often. And if you think there are a whole bunch of Hispanic teens on American television along with many other ethnic, prominent faces, then you don’t know American television very well. They still canceled the George Lopez show for no good reason.

I am sick of the little twelve year old jerks saying that if you dislike a celebrity you are just jealous. Honestly, the reason I don’t care for Vanessa is because I hear about her day in and day out because HSM is way over advertised and it is sickening. I used to like her before HSM took over the minds of everyone. It is possible to dislike someone and not be jealous of them.
I don’t like the cover. She is much prettier than that and that cover doesn’t show it off, and I liked the interview. She seems professional. Hopefully as she starts acting more HSM will fade away and her acting skills will develop.
I’m not going into all the ethnic backgrounds of Vanessa Hudgens as she has a lot. But that’s just it, she isn’t just a white chick and she is honored to play an ethnic role that is a POSITiVE role model. As more than one person has said, many Hispanics are portrayed as something less than a person to look up to and you all know it. You who are basing her are just looking for something to complain about and it is very obvious. That’s ridiculous.
BTW, she is trying to DO something positive with a positive character to give positive vibes to those who see the movie. But there are those who always want to be negative. I can’t tell you how many “jokes” I get a week from supposedly intelligent people in which particularly Hispanic people are the butt of the joke. I have actually parted ways with friends I have had for many years because of this insulting mind set. I cannot condone it and I cannot look the other way. Vanessa is wanting to portray minorities in a positive light and is proud when she can do it and all you haters can only find fault. Who really has the problem here????

The fact that people can download entire CD’s to their ipods and MP3 player’s is most likely the second reason there are not more hard copy sales of Vanessa’s CD, (the first reason being lack of promotion of course).
But I am sure none of the anti-Vanessa’s don’t consider the downloads as a determination of success, but a sale is a sale is it not?
kgg, I consider booking her on at least three national TV shows an honest attempt at promoting her CD. Maybe you missed her on these.

Do you know how many artists would KILL for that kind of exposure? Each of these shows is viewed by millions of potential record-buyers every day. Yet Vanessa didn’t even sing. I would think if V was really interested in selling copies, she’d perform on these shows and give people a taste. Jennifer Hudson performed “Spotlight” on Regis and Kelly just the other day and she was fabulous! No lip synching either, it was all her. AND HER album isn’t due out til September.
