Vanessa Hudgens is the September 2008 cover girl for Teen Vogue. Here are some choice quotes from her interview:
On graduating from the High School Musical franchise: “It’s sad. This is our last time doing a movie together, and we love each other so much. We really grew up together. We can be free when we’re around one another, and the amount of fun we have is ridiculous.”
On her personal love life with Zac Efron: “I keep my relationship quiet. I think that works.”
On her style matching the ease of her California upbringing: “I like putting things together that you would not expect. It’s always me.”
On proceeding with extreme caution in choosing her next project: “I don’t want to do something that messes me up mentally. I think people just don’t realize that sometimes actors can really take it in and become that person.”
On being extremely proud of her HSM character: “I love that Gabriella is Hispanic. It’s nice to be able to stand up for people who don’t have someone to look up to very often.”
The September 2008 issue of Teen Vogue is on sale nationwide Tuesday, August 5.

#97 Okay I have had enough. Let’s look at how many mainstream Hollywood movies prominently protray Hispanic characters in a postive light. Now I am talking strictly fictionalized protrayals here. I’m not talking about Hispanic actors, musicians, athletes, or writiers. I am talking strictly the usual protrayal of Hispanics in Hollywood.
“High School Musical”
“Ugly Betty”-I have reservations about this but it’s the only major Network show with a Hispanics characters as leads. There was “Caine” on CBS but that’s been canceled.
“American Family”-This was a series that ran on PBS (so not many people are likely to be familiar with it) from 2002 to 2004. It starred Edward James Olmos that was about the trials and tribulations of a Mexican-American family.
That’s three come to mind feel free to add more. But my point is it is the stereotypical protrayal of Hispanics as gang members, drug dealers, etc that is the norm.
So either say how Vanessa saying that Hispanic characters are not played in postive light “very often” is so “ignorant” or shut up.
She’s cute but NOT Zac material. BY no means. He will get over her in time and find out there is WOMEN out there for him.
She is pretty in the cover and she does do a very good job on HSM… I just cant’ see her with Zac… uck!
I love the interview its cute. one thing i do have to commen on is the fact that she said you have to be careful by choosing the charchter you play or it can mess you up mentally by you becoming the charachter or something like that. I myself am an actress and have been in several plays. I do take acting quite seriously and when I am playing a part I get in to that charachters shoes and feel that charachtes feelings and stuff. I am no longer Charlene but the charachter I am playing. However once the show ends I am no longerthe charachter and back to being myself. anybody who honestly thinks they are the charachter must have mental problems tro begin with. I am not saying this is the case with vanessa and i am not bashing her. just givving my two cents on that subject.
Dee, just why isn’t Vanessa “Zac material”? That is the dumbest comment I have ever heard—I’m even hearing some racial slur there but I will give you the benefit of the doubt here. When he was younger he said he had a picture of Tyra Banks over his bed on the ceiling—he obviously had the upper bunk of bunk beds in a room shared with his brother. He also said when he was younger that his ideal woman would be a younger version of Catherine Zeta-Jones. Now, you tell me what kind of woman that Zac Efron seems to be attracted to and the kind he chose? And if you have forgotten in the United States young men and women are still allowed to CHOOSE who they want to be with. Vanessa wasn’t forced upon him.
She looks very matronly on that cover.

Sorry, Dee, there’s nothing you or millions of other jealous girls can do. Vanessa is WITH Zac. His choice. So she is very much Zac material. Has been for three years.

V is not Hispanic, she’s just playing a character that is Hispanic. She’s half Filipino. She does have some Spanish blood.. 50% of Filipinos do, being a Spanish colony for 350 years.

A little off the subject here but did anyone catch the end of Extra tonight? They had Ashley and they talked about her having a ring on her left hand and they speculated that it was an engagement ring from Jared. Since so many people complain that Zac and Vanessa are so young young and how they should see other people, what about Ashley and Jared? I know Ashley is 23, Jared is at least a couple years younger than she is, so why aren’t they getting as much hassle as Zac and Vanessa? I say only Ashley, Jared, Vanessa, and Zac can make decisions that effect their happiness and their futures.
Yes, the short segment on Ashley’s birthday celebration showed video of some of her guests which was people who we have heard was there. So, did anyone make a youtube video?
Did anyone catch E News tonight with the rumor that Zac and Vanessa were “shacking up” (their words not mine) - frankly that’s the third time I’ve heard that which of course doesn’t make it true and frankly I think that is their business.
_THanks KAREN I thought I was the only one who picked up a racial refeence from the “not Zac material” remark. But I have to also be honest I’ve picked up that inference a number of times when reading hater’s posts–I’m really beginning to wonder if racism doesn’t motivate a lot of their posts,

Zaccarra, I have wondered that same thing. I’ve seen “greasy” comments, and others I can’t think of at the moment, and felt they were racist as well. I believe those comments come from haters, who think anyone attractive has to be a blond, blue-eyed American. Zac doesn’t seem to be attracted to that stereotype, as he admires women like Tyra Banks, Rosario Dawson, and Catherine Zeta-Jones.
BTW, Vanessa looks so classic and beautiful on this cover. Those jewel tones are gorgeous on her!! Hope she has a wonderful tour!! Go, V!!!
