‘American Teen’ Living The American Dream

‘American Teen’ Living The American Dream

American Teen, a hit at the Sundance Film Festival, is a documentary set in small-town Indiana. Following five high schoolers through their senior year, American Teen spotlights their high, lows and everything in between.

Each featured student represents a high school archetype — the heartthrob, the geek, the jock, the popular girl, and the artsy girl. Though their labels are just that, labels, you’ll easily find yourself rooting for each of these kids–especially the “misfit”, Hannah Bailey, the heart and soul of the film.

American Teen opened in NY/LA last week. This weekend, the documentary will be released in the following cities: Chicago, Philadelphia, Dallas - Ft. Worth, San Francisco - Oakland - San Jose, Boston, Washington DC, Phoenix, Seattle - Tacoma and, Minneapolis - St. Paul. So if you’re in one of those cities, check it out! The cast has been traveling the country together to promote the film–they’ll be in Los Angeles this weekend! The cast will be meeting people at the Arclight in Hollywood on Saturday at the 4:20pm. Check it out!

1st!!! I”m no longer in high school of course, ( thank Goodness ), but friends have told me, and my own children who are no longer there, said those types like the ” artsy ” are stupid. And some of the others are silly also. Plus the kids they have portraying these kids are ridiculous looking. They don’t act or look like normal seniors.

victoria, your not in high school, so how do you know what “normal” seniors look and act like?

We all know the stereotypes are stupid and nobody fits into one box, but in high school, sterotyping exists and everybody is seen as just one thing. It sucks, but it is true. Take it from someone living it, as much as people claim that cliques don’t exist, everyone is friends, and nobody judges based on the classic sterotypes they are liars. Everyone is judged base on stupid definitions like jock, popular, rebel, and geek. Its just the way it is.

The popular kids claim it isn’t true, but take it from a true nerd/outcast, none of them would dare talk to me. This movie sounds interesting and honest.
