Jessica Simpson appears on the cover of the September issue of Elle magazine and opens up about her previous and current relationships.
On the period immediately following her 2005 split from ex-husband Nick Lachey: “I was going through a lot of pain. I didn’t try anything to change my life other than dating different types of guys and conforming to their worlds. I thought I had to be artsier, more intellectual.”
On if she’s been physically abused and recording a song about it: “I don’t want to talk about it, but I have definitely experienced abuse in a way that I would tell people to take their heart and run… I had to record that. There’s nothing on my album that you’re gonna hear that I don’t relate to or that I haven’t experienced. Because the only way I know how to sing is from life experience.”
On her ex-beau, musician John Mayer: “John believed in the Jessica Simpson that’s within. He cherished our love. He helped make me the woman I am today. John is going to be an amazing man for someone, but I know that I was supposed to be with someone else.”
On her relationship with Tony Romo: “Most of the guys I dated were captivated by my heart, but they had different ways of trying to get to me. Tony understands me. He appreciates my talent. He’s the first person I’ve spiritually connected with. It’s the cutest thing, he’ll say, Jessica, 75% of the comments about your new single are favorable.”
The September 2008 issue of Elle hits newsstands on August 11.

this is a public attempt to sell CD’s for she and her camp know she can’t do it on talent alone…cause there is no talent…okay okay…to be fair she sounds better then say the average person singing a song, but when you hear someone with huge amount of talent that is happening right now like miss carrie underwood, kellie pickler, leanne rimes, etc, you can’t help but compare them and she can’t sing not like the pro’s especially in country they take there talent serious it’s not pop where you can dance and it’ll be okay…2 different worlds, and dressing like that with plaid shirt , jeans, and a buckle douesn’t make you country if anything she looks like a hick not country classy…i don’t believe i’ve ever seen faith hill, shania, or martina dressed like this before on a cover??? she looks ridiculous again she is tryin’ to hard…i think she talks too much in her interviews and i think it’s a pity me story to win consumers,…she is so fake and her country album will not do good don’t get me wrong there are those few that will buy it but as far as selling records like the “real country women” in the industry …not gonna happen she can’t out sell…carrie, taylor, kellie, etc…haha she’s stupider then i thought if she thinks she can…..i’m kind of embarassed for her really..because when she goes to these ACM’s CMA’S GRAMMY Awards she won’t be winning them …what’s worse for her since she’s all the jealous and catty type is that she’ll be seating in the side lines watching carrie tony’s ex taking all the glory…”real girls eat meat” according to jessica tryin’ to attack carrie but in carrie’s defense “real girls know how to win”.

She said when she was in high school all of her friends were guys. That outfit is so cliche, especially the belt which covers up her big stomach.

I’m gonna go out on a limb here and assume that the “75%” comment is one of those ones you have to ~hear~ in order to get. I think that’s part of her problem… she doesn’t quite get that some things just don’t translate all that well to print and can often make you sound more than a bit ditsy. (yes, I know, even when she’s speaking, it often comes out more than a bit ditsy, but right now I’m talking about when she quotes others.)
