OlderMiley Cyrus: Breaking Up With Nick Jonas Was Hard
Miley Cyrus finally opens up about her break up with Nick Jonas of the Jonas Brothers in the September 2008 issue of Seventeen magazine.
Despite her success as a Disney superstar, she’s still a normal girl learning from her mistakes. Miley dishes on the extreme lengths she went to heal from her heartbreak, the price of being a role model and her recent Vanity Fair photo controversy.
“[Nick and I] became boyfriend and girlfriend the day we met,” he 15-year-old Hannah Montana star shared. “He was on a quest to meet me, and he was like, ‘I think you’re beautiful and I really like you.’ And I was like, ‘Oh, my gosh, I like you so much.’ Nick and I loved each other. We still do, but we were in love with each other. For two years he was basically my 24/7. But it was really hard to keep it from people. We were arguing a lot, and it really wasn’t fun.”
When asked how she dealt with her break-up from Nick, Miley said, “At first I bawled for a month straight. I was so sad. I just went into this weird funk. And I dyed my hair black. When we were dating, Nick wanted me to get highlights – and so I did that, and I got myself looking great. And then, on the day we broke up, I was like, I want to make my hair black now – I don’t want to look pretty; I want to look hard-core. I was rebelling against everything Nick wanted me to be. And then I was like, I’ve got to be by myself for now, and just figure out who I really am.”

I really want to get this issue that is so sad. I’ve never had a boyfriend, or been through a breakup, but I know what it feels like to only want to rebel and do everything that is the opposite of who you really are. I feel so bad for Miley, and I think this is showing that she is only human and that no matter how high she is, heartbreak and send her crashing down like anyone else.

Wow that’s really sad! I can’t even imagine how hard it would be to keep a relationship like that so under wraps…I wouldn’t be able to do that with my bf, and we’ve been dating for two years. It’s hard to go through that serious of a break-up at such a young age, I think it’s good that she’s coming out and admitting that she had a relationship with him; otherwise, it just leaves people guessing and speculating even more.
I am so happy that she opened up about her mistakes and her relationship problems. Everyone makes serious mistakes. And we’ve all done something worse in our past. I know exactly what Miley went through. I’m going through it right now. It’s been a couple months since my break up with my ex which ended badly. He and I fought alot too. He betrayed me so many times during our relationship. And he has a bad past. He’s still bad. Now, to top it, I discover he’s got a new girlfriend… and even his boss wants to meet her. I’m hurt. But logically I know I do NOT want to have a future with this f*** up. In fact, I feel sorry for the woman he’s with now. She must not think too highly of herself to be with such a loser. I know I didn’t, but I feel in love with him before I knew the sordid details of screwed up past. Little does she know about him and if she does, well then good luck. Only thing I can do is try to completely ignore anything that has to do with him. With no support system in a fairly new place that I’m living in… far far away from family… I think it’s best i move out of this place and into a better one. Too many bad reminders in the place that i’m staying at now. Hopefully, I will find my prince charming. Otherwise, I’ll just stay single and independent. I could just put myself out there and easily find any man i want. But I don’t think serial dating is the answer. I need to concentrate on my life. Growing up, I couldn’t wait to live the single life and become independent living on my own. But it gets tough emotionally. You gotta do alot of things on your own, which use to be simple, but seem harder now at times. I miss him, but God knows I don’t wanna future with him. Roberty Downey Jr was right when he said that if you can remember the bad parts of the past, you won’t wanna repeat the mistakes. Honestly, I feel some sympathy for the both of them. They were a really cute couple, and I still kind of think they are. The break-up was really hard of Miley, and I feel bad about the way she dealt with it. Heres my opinion. And maybe my opinion is different because i’m older and I see things in a different light now. She went through a heartbreak which is hard on anyone. No matter the circumstances. But she is having to deal with it while having reporters ask her all the time about it. And you got to realize everyone moves on at different paces. Sometimes it takes a few days and sometimes it takes alot longer. And in her case it is taking her a long time to get over it. But thats just her way of dealing with it. I think she is handeling it very well for only being 15 and having everyone ask about it all the time. Its pretty much the 1st thing reporters ask about now. So what is she supposed to do? After awhile you just got to tell the reporters what they wanna hear. Oh and is she just a hoe because of those pics she did? If thats true.. Just let me make clear that she is a teenager and she will make mistakes just like evry other teen out there. Look at yourself. Have you ever made a mistake that you wish you could change? Okay, the “haterade” commentary is really beginning to wear on my nerves.
Clearly, none of you bothered to actually crack open the magazine( but of course, wait, wait, why would you bother? After all, Miley Cyrus is on the cover!!! Note the sarcasm).
Miley also stated that she and Nick have brushed over it now(she, in fact, considers Jonas one of her best friends), and from what I remember(especially since I still read the magazine from time to time), the format of Seventeen’s interviews tend to be a Q&A interview, not a volunteering of a smattering of information.
As for those protesting that they couldn’t have possibly begun dating on the first day - do any of you remember what middle school was like? People went through relationships like they went through underwear, relied almost solely on looks, and began relationships merely because they liked the same band or because they ran in similar circles and just happened to think the other was cute.
It’s quite reasonable to think Miley thought Nick was cute & vice versa and le gasp. They also ran in similar circles and came from the same faith.
Also at 13, it is feasible to at least have experienced your first love. I experienced mine at 13. All of those who want to nitpick at each and every weakness you may see in Miley’s interview, I peg you as simply insecure & jealous( I hate to submit to such a lowly accusation, but what else could be more certain and true than that?) because she confesses to having had a relationship with Nick Jonas. Perhaps she’s explaining the sudden newfound sound in her album, perhaps she’s finally confessing the “7 Things” song is, in fact, about Nick Jonas and explaining how that song came about.
She also goes on to explain that her breakup with Nick was the turning point in how she came about to be in who she is today. The songs that have now hit the top 10 is because of Nick, and she’s grown from that experience. If you don’t want to appreciate that, the growth of self through song, fine. Nobody said you had to pour the haterade.
As for Selena Gomez & Nick Jonas dating, I don’t believe it for a minute. Before any of you eagerly jump from your chairs and furiously type in a, “BUT!!!!” Just so you remember, People Magazine is just as lowly as In Touch, OK! and the National Enquirer. Juicy gossip is just that — juicy gossip.
Also, either Selena and/or Nick would have at least hinted to it by now, like Miley did in the past.
So people. Learn how to get the whole story - it just might lighten the pessimistic existence that is your life, unfortunately.
