David Cook hits a few balls before the Mets played the San Diego Padres at Shea Stadium in New York on Thursday.
Cook, 25, was joined by fellow American Idol finalist, Carly Smithson, and third-baseman David Wright.
The American Idol winner also had the honor of throwing out the first pitch.
“I am a Kansas City sports fan, but I’m a baseball fan, more than anything,” Cook said. “To be able to come to Shea, with all the history and the fact there’s going to be a new stadium next season, is really cool.”

I was hoping Carly would show the Padres some support, given that she calls San Diego her home (aside from her country Ireland). Padres aren’t doing good this season, but would’ve been nice to show support to your home team especially when they are playing away games.

Pale, pudgy and balding at 25. Chris Daughtry is a million times better and Cook will NEVER be as successful as Daughtry. NEVER.
I can’t wait until Idol comes back and we get a new winner so this wannabe can go away.
Just love David Cook! Talent, brains, beauty, a sense of humour, and an overall good guy. What’s not to love? I do think the baseball cap is not a good hair styling mechanism for him, though. LOL! Most of the women in the country dream of finding a man with a few of his characteristics. That’s why he is so amazing. The whole package, and he doesn’t seem to know it.
Can’t wait for his record to be released.

Just wait, you’ll see. And don’t get me wrong, I happen to really enjoy Chris, but Cook is MUCH more authentic. Plus, heck, we’re still months away from his album release, with no single out yet or anything, and already his album is at #60 in presales on Amazon! And the first few days after it first went on presale, it was at number TWO!! #2 based SOLELY on the fact that it’s Cook making the record! Pretty darn impressive, if you ask me. He’s going to have NO problem topping Daughtry, as long as his album is strong, which it for sure will be because he’s co-writing the whole thing)
What he lacks in hair he more than makes up for in talent and personality! Plus his hazel eyes and smile draw you away from the top of his head also! Pre sales for his album have been great, so no need to worry if it will do good!
