Brad Pitt Pays Tribute To Bernie Mac
Brad Pitt, George Clooney and other cast members of the Ocean’s trilogy have paid tribute to their co-star Bernie Mac, after his tragic death on Saturday.
Pitt said, “I lament the loss of a ferociously funny and hardcore family man. My thoughts are with Rhonda and their family. Bernie Mac, you are already missed.”
Clooney lamented, ”The world just got a little less funny. He will be dearly missed.”
Don Cheadle, who also starred in the Ocean’s films, added: “This is a very sad day for many of us who knew and loved Bernie. He brought so much joy to so many. He will be missed but heaven just got funnier.”
Samuel L Jackson, who costars with Mac in Soul Men (out later this year), said, “It goes without saying that Bernie was one of the pre-eminent comedians of our generation. He was also an attentive husband, a great father and loving grandfather. I feel blessed to have shared years of friendship with Bernie Mac, and I’m honored to have finally co-starred with him in what I consider to be his finest cinematic acting achievement.”

nothing wrong with Samuel L Jackson as far as I know. It was Morgan Freeman who was in the auto accident…
So sad….

RIP Bernie Mac
The man ostensibly being judged now — let’s call him Offstage Bernie — was quieter than you’d expect, a churchgoing Christian who dropped the J-word as frequently as Onstage Bernie dropped those curse words. Offstage Bernie stayed married to his high school sweetheart for more than 30 years, and liked to brag that he had “no outside kids.” (”That’s rare for a black man,” he cracked to Jon Stewart on “The Daily Show.”) He and his wife raised a daughter, then took in his 16-year-old niece and her 2-year-old daughter. Later, that served as material for his highly acclaimed Fox TV sitcom, “The Bernie Mac Show.”
Onstage Bernie, who starred in many films, from the “Ocean’s Eleven” franchise to 2007’s “Pride,” had a strong current of old-school African American conservatism running through his comedy: You take care of family, no matter what. Work is just that — work. Do your job and shut the [expletive] up. Children are to be seen and not heard, and if they are heard, don’t be afraid to open a can of you-know-what.
My sincere condolences go out to Isaac Hayes’ family & friends… Another great talent loss before their time. He will be sorely missed.
As for Brad, George, etc. paying their respects as well… That’s what friends do; anyone with a heart feels the loss of good people, even strangers.
Will Brad attend the funeral? He might not. Not out of disrespect, but the need to give those attending the service of Bernie Mac peace from the circus that would surely follow his attendance. Let’s face it: the paps will show none. Then again, if Brad DOESN’T attend… he’ll be branded as “selfish, cold, etc.” The tabs will have a field day no matter what happens. Here’s hoping he can slip in unnoticed.
Rumor has it that he was asked to attend Princess Diana’s funeral {she was said to be very much taken with him}, & slipped in under the radar - Others said he declined BECAUSE of the circus {paps} already camped outside, sending instead a beautiful flower arrangement & personal condolence message to the young princes’. It’s only a rumor though…
Finally, I don’t see why any of you are surprised by “McNasty” & others like him/her… They spew hate for the simple reason that they get responses from others & can then laugh & say: “There, see, I’m IMPORTANT! THEY NOTICE ME!” Who’s worse? Those who spew hate - or those who give them power by acknowledging them?
The obnoxious loud-mouth bigot ruining the party, reunion, dinner out, etc. feeds on the disgust of those offended & answering back. Walk away… IGNORE THEM! if that’s what winds your clock, & I guarantee you - THEY GO AWAY WITHOUT ANY POWER!
Anyway, that’s my 2 cents. Had to get that bit off my chest.
‘Bye
Sheri,
I understand your point of view, but Angie never said she supported the war. She is not rehashing the past, but rather looking to the future. The war can be debated ad nauseum, but the fact remains that we can’t undo what we did. We are there now, so what do we do about 4 million people displaced, the destroyed homes and economy, etc that are in place now?
That is what Angie is talking about. The Taliban grew in Afghanistan grew as a result of not cleaning up after a war, and she’s saying we need to clean up the mess we’ve made or foster more terrorism in the region. We need to help these people.
Dina has said the Iraqi government is not helping, and she’s right. But that’s because we beheaded the government without a clear plan in place and the current government are authority figures in name only, without the backing of anyone in real power. The one thing that Saddam Hussein did was keep all factions working together and a civil war at bay. A lack of understanding of the region by the Bush Administration has led to the current lack of power in Iraq as all factions are fighting for their voice to be heard.
These issues are extremely complicated and there is no easy answer and that is what Angie has been saying all along. Platitudes and promises won’t help. And death and destruction will continue long after the war is over, simply because the structure that held it all together has been broken. It will take years to repair, and in the meantime, we owe the innocent people whose lives have been unfairly disrupted some humanitarian response or we will create more bitter, irrational terrorists. It is in our national security interest to be humanitarians in the region.
Would be nice if the entire Ocean gang could attend as a group. I know that Don C. will be there. George will probably be there. Hope Brad comes but if he doesn’t we know why. It may show more respect by not coming as you said because the media will focus on him and not the family or Bernie. But it would be nice.
This is wierd to post about Brad and Angie on this thread.
We need a happier thread please.
This is so sad and we want to stay happy like the birth of the twins.
#104 rossy40……………..very well said..
mondo bongo, hello and hugs to you and your mom.
dina #1 @ 08/11/2008 at 12:43 am Sheri, I posted an article I saw on Huffington Post. You can agree or disagree as you which it doesn’t matter to me. I thought it was an interesting read. Angie was talking about the surge and how now was the time to start thinking about the refugees that have been affected by the war.
She is not taking sides on the war. She is not defending the invasion or any aspect of the war. Her concern is the refugee as that is what her position with the UNHCR is about, refugees. So whatever your opinion is, is okay by me. Her oped piece was posted her at JJ’s. You might want to read it if you haven’t all ready. Peace

Tragic loss. I was a huge fan of the Bernie Mac Show. After that I was attracted to whatever shows, movies, specials he was in. Amazing talent. At least his work is still around so we all can continue to enjoy it, and others can discover him as well!
Rest in peace Bernie Mac. You are one of a kind and will be missed.
Its really sad to loose Bernic Mac and the other guy in two days. Nothing’s going to happen to the other guys in that movie they starred in.
There are some stupid and shallow assed people on this site. RIP Bernie Mac and Isaac Hayes.
