Angelina Jolie’s Presidential Pick is Undecided

United Nations goodwill ambassador Angelina Jolie hasn’t decided who she’s voting for between Presidential hopefuls John McCain and Barack Obama.

The 33-year-old new mom said in a statement to Variety managing editor Ted Johnson via political adviser Trevor Neilson: “I have not decided on a candidate. I am waiting to see the commitments they will make on issues like international justice, refugees and how to address the needs of children in crisis around the world.”

Back in February, Angie wrote an op-ed piece for the Washington Post, “[calling] on each of the presidential candidates and congressional leaders to announce a comprehensive refugee plan with a specific timeline and budget as part of their Iraq strategy.”

You said Jolie was an idiot, what support do you have for that statement? Idiots are not given the position of Goodwill Ambassador to the United Nations Refugee Agency. Idiots are not paid 15-20 dollars per movies. Idiots do not donate their time and money to charitable causes. Idiots do not raise 6 kids and do those other things and make it work. Idiots type on blogs complaining about the GOOD works that someone else does. Idiots don’t reason, they just hate.

This is your statement ” What happened to the orphans in Cambodia, or the people of Namibia, or the refugees in Iraq? I bet they are still orphans, still refugees.” Now I want you to take a DEEP breath and realize how much of a jack-a-s-s you are for making it. Of course there are still orphans and refugees. One person nor can a thousand solve ALL of the problems in one country. However, through donations, awareness and works the numbers can be reduced. You seriously need to get involved in helping others if all you can do is complain about someone who does help.

You condemn Angelina then complain that she hasn’t provided a website or phone number so that you can help. I hardly think you’re interested in helping. You seem to use this as proof that she is merely promoting herself. If you were interested in helping the people in those countries, you have a computer, you’d Google charities that support them. I’d do it for you, but I know it would give you such pleasure to find them yourself. . But then again you could just sit there jaw yapping about what Jolie does.

I seriously doubt that Angelina is out making press releases on everything she donates to charity. Why don’t you provide a list of the releases that came directly from her or through her representative. I know you would want to support your twisted view that she is somehow doing this all for her own benefit.

Everyone who has a cause including Belinda and Bill Gates have had their contributions chronicled in the papers and television. They have made speeches and had interviews about the donations and causes they support. But somehow I don’t think you’d be complaining about them being self-promoters, you reserve that for Jolie.

Why don’t you do something nice for someone yourself. It might shock the h-e-l -l out of me, but I promise i won’t ridicule you as being a self-promoter.

eddie jones @ 08/11/2008 at 9:17 pm

who cares what hollywood elites think, they have more money then the president, they run the country more then the president.

Arora. I have just as much right to be on this thread as you do. Using the STFU statement against says a lot about what kind of un-democratic person you are. We are all entitled to our opinions, including me. I work in the entertainment industry and have actually met her. She is a self-absorbed nutcase, like most celebrities. Very few of them do something out if the goodness of their hearts. Almost all of them are in love with their own publicity, including Angelina.

Jolie replaces Cruise in Col’s ‘Salt’

“Edwin A. Salt” is about to undergo a gender change.
Once expected to star Tom Cruise, the Columbia Pictures espionage thriller will be redrafted by screenwriter Kurt Wimmer as a star vehicle for Angelina Jolie. Philip Noyce remains attached as director and Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Sunil Perkash are producing.

Jolie is close to a deal to play the title character, a CIA officer who’s accused by a defector of being a Russian sleeper spy and must elude capture long enough to establish her innocence.

Cruise had long flirted with the project, but that ended recently. The well-regarded script had several male movie stars circling.

Jolie took a liking to it, prompting the studio’s decision to rewrite it. Sources said the project won’t require that much of an overhaul to suit her.

After Universal beefed up Jolie’s role in “Wanted” and then marketed the action film squarely on Jolie’s shoulders and watched it gross $132 million domestically, Jolie reestablished in the wake of “Mr. and Mrs. Smith” that she is the rare female who is viable in an action genre that has been almost the exclusive domain of men.

“Edwin A. Salt” will undergo a title change, and if everything falls into place, the film shapes up as a return vehicle for Jolie, who recently gave birth to twins. Another candidate for her return is the Lionsgate drama “Atlas Shrugged,” which has been adapted by Randall Wallace from the Ayn Rand novel.

Jolie, who also provided a lead voice in the DreamWorks Animation hit “Kung Fu Panda,” drew strong notices at the Cannes Film Festival for her starring role in the Clint Eastwood-directed drama “The Changeling” for Imagine and Universal. That film opens in late October.

This is great news!! Another Jolie film I’ll look forward to. I can’t believe they’re changing the male character into a female. That just shows how in demand Jolie is in Hollywood.

Via a political advisor? Taking ourselves a little too serious, aren’t we?

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Surely no more serious then having a Publicist and PR Manager??

i dont understand some fans why is so big deal who AJ vote for..

If she choose MCain or Obama is her right.. nobody can dictate her who she wants to vote..

After reading the headline I really thought this was from The Onion. This is too funny to be serious. Who cares?

Why do people keep supporting this idiotic woman?
Because we like her on the screen and she does good work outside Hollywood.

She has never done a single nice thing for anyone without immediately issuing a press release, giving a press conference, staging a photo-op or sitting down with CNN to let EVERYONE know how she just did something nice for someone.
If you’re referring to her UNHCR job, IT IS HER JOB to be in the news, issuing press releases every time she has done something to draw attention to the refugees. Actually, I read that it’s the local UNHCR branch that takes care of the press release after her visit.

When that’s not enough she releases her tax returns which doesn’t feed or shelter anyone.
You can read in her UNHCR fact sheet that she donates to their projects, which are about feeding and sheltering refugees.

It just puts a dollar amount on her ‘generosity’.
I hope other celebrities with as much or more money, who are not donating yet, will follow her lead.

We hardly ever get any follow up on her ten million causes.
You can find plenty of information on the net, but I don’t think you’re really interested. I think you just want to bash her. What has she done to YOU?

What happened to the orphans in Cambodia, or the people of Namibia, or the refugees in Iraq? I bet they are still orphans, still refugees.
That is a very dumb thing to say.
Not one leader, not one country can solve the refugee crisis, or place all the orphans in homes, overnight. It takes the combined effort of many countries over a long period of time to do that, but every little bit that is done helps.
What is sad is that as soon as a number of refugees are settled in other countries, new ones are created by wars, like now in the war between Russia and Georgia.

We hardly ever get a phone number or a website address so we can help her help these people w. There are many ways to help people without keeping the attention on focused on herself.
If you really want to help, go to the UNHCR website, and there’s Brad’s NOLA housing project too.

But for Angelina, what would be the point of that if you’re a shameless self-promoter?
She’s staying home with her babies, but people talk about her!
People are interested in her. Including those who claim not to like her.

Orchid, I never asked many of the questions you asked. Good job at bringing up what you see as her pluses tho.

JANE @ 08/11/2008 at 7:17 pm Angie has turned me against her. If she can’t see how detrimental voting for McCain will be and that she should vote for Obama, she is not the person I thought she was.

At least Brad can see the light, and is supporting Obama.

Angie is a disgrace to not have made up her mind to support Obama. Shame on you Angelina Jolie. I would hate to think you are like you disgusting father Jon Voight.

Gee.

This kind comments really made me not want to vote for Obama.

Cult that much?

LOL we have two hater-fans here who claim to be “informed”…
maybe you should try to do a little research, the job of a Goodwill Ambassador is exactly that.. RAISE AWARENESS
here http://www.un.org/works/goingon/refugees/angelina_story.html let me help you, dumb troll

Please, please do not include Angie to all the dirty politics.
Angie I know you are smart enough to stay away from this foolishness.
Politics…too dirty.

At any rate, whoever you pick, I wouldn’t change my admiration to Angie and Brad and their family.

Just stay away from politics.. Not worth it.

#184 is claiming to be Chris when she/he is not. Nice try. No wonder you love Angie. You both like to deceive people.

The fact is there are plenty of celebrities out there who give millions to charity and don’t always keep the attention on themselves. Paul Newman is a good example of that. Jon Stewart visits injured troops without bringing cameras with him.

BTW donating a million dollars to a charity the day before “Wanted” hits theaters is a PR stunt. Running to an orphanage with Brad less than 72 hours after they first got caught on that beach in Africa having that relationship they swore they weren’t having is damage control whether you want to accept that or not. Forbes magazine which is not exactly a tabloid, wrote an article about how touting their charity work saved their careers from serious damage. There is reason to be cynical when it comes to public figures. Most of the time there is a lot more to their supposed selflessness.

LOL apparently we have an undercover x fan…

Hmm I wonder if you go to threads of other people like oprah, bono, roger federer, nicole kidman, shakira etc to complain about their charity work, and btw they’re VERY public about it. So according to you bono’s nobel prize nomination was a PR stunt.
Also if I’m not mistaken, Jon & Paul are not ambassadors that’s why they are able to do it privately, so show me a goodwill ambassador who doesn’t get in the news by doing their job (you know.. raise awareness)

Politics just like religion are two controversial topics that cause heated arguments. Now that politics is being discussed in this thread, it surely has heightened ones emotions, as everyone has his own choice of candidate.

In my opinion, I see nothing wrong about Angie’s statement that she’s still undecided yet on her presidential candidate. I think she issued that statement thru her political advisor maybe because she’s always asked about it. Just like any American citizen, Angie has every right to voice her opinion. That’s the beauty of democracy, right? Yes, she’s a popular celebrity, UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador and a member of the prestigious Council on Foreign Relations, but she’s still FIRST & FOREMOST a U.S. citizen who must weigh certain issues of the two presidential candidates before she chooses. Besides, every citizen is asked, one time or another, who’s his candidate. So, Angie is no exception. It just so happened she’s very popular.

As far as I know, she said this before :

“Everyone thinks that I have made up my mind…..but my decision is still very much open. I have listened very carefully for what Obama and McCain stand for, which is something that every voter should do. I will make my decision only after I know what both candidates plan to do in the areas that are important to me.”

My understanding is she’s not trying to convince or force anyone, her fans, people, to also choose who she decides to vote. Angie will not also like it, that her fans will just follow her choices just because she said so. Let’s not judge her just because she issued a political statement.

Whether she’s for McCain or Obama, she will definitely displease someone. It’s like a case of “no way out” or “damn if do, damn if you don’t” kind of thing. Anyway, she’s no intention to please everyone. Remember, she’s a very independent woman

I think what she’s driving at is SHE IS HOPING THAT EVERY VOTER SHOULD THINK WISELY BY LISTENING TO EACH CANDIDATE’S PLATFORM OF GOVERNANCE BEFORE DECIDING WHO TO VOTE FOR. THAT PERSONALITIES ARE NOT ENOUGH BUT TO STUDY WHAT EACH CANDIDATE STAND FOR.

Orchid @08/11/2008 at 11:50pm
Very smart answers to some of the most ignorant comments I’ve read. Instead of trying to emulate the good she does, they prefer to question her sincerity. And insult her out of jealousy.

So i hope you included in your list Oprah Winfrey, Bono, Shakira, Madonna, Gwyneth P, Jennifer A. to name a few because all of them announced their charities they involved in. And you said your work in ENTAIRTAINMENT INDUSTRY?? TED C??? LMAOOO!

question @ 08/11/2008 at 8:43 pm
refugees. She and Brad have followed that up by making personal donations recently to the children affected by the war both in Iraq and in America. Her position is very clear, there is absolutely no double talk here, she’s merely reinforcing her beliefs.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

No she is not. Voting for McCain is a contradictionof any humanitarian stance. Point black. No two ways about it. She is being a hypocrite here. A total hypocrite to not tarnish her image as a goodwill person. Mother Theresa and Ghandi were VERY clear about who they did not support politically because they know A TRUE humanitarian stands up for something even when it is not safe or popular. She showed herself here and I used to think she was sincere about humanitarian issues. McCain and refugees in the same sentence? Gimme a break.

This is exactly what happens when ignorant people start to express their opinion based on their limited/lack of knowledge. Or maybe just another hater complaining about everything.

Who doesn’t know about Paul Newman, and many people visit injured troops (except Obama when he was in Germany!), but these are men. Angelina is prettier to look at. The world loves pretty a face.

BTW donating a million dollars to a charity the day before “Wanted” hits theaters is a PR stunt.
How cynical, but even if that’s true, so what? A million dollars went to charity. That is good, isn’t it?

Running to an orphanage with Brad less than 72 hours after they first got caught on that beach in Africa having that relationship they swore they weren’t having is damage control whether you want to accept that or not.
I’m not sure what you’re talking about but, again, if they did good work, so what? If that visit controlled whatever damage you’re talking about, I’m glad for them.

Forbes magazine which is not exactly a tabloid, wrote an article about how touting their charity work saved their careers from serious damage.
If that is true, then I hope other Hollywood celebs who aren’t doing good work yet and could do with some good publicity, follow B&A and other celebs who are already into charity work. Both the needy and the celebs themselves would benefit.

There is reason to be cynical when it comes to public figures. Most of the time there is a lot more to their supposed selflessness.
Probably. Nobody is perfect. Doing good things for others is never wrong.

Correction:

The world loves a pretty face.

What???!! My hero is Mother Theresa. And Ghandi is a close second. I am saying if Angelina aspires to spread their gospel - helping the poor, refugees, hungry people, and people of all backgrounds - then how is voting for a man who said we should BOMB Iran and send our enemies cigarettes so they can die be aligned with humanitarianism to the point where Angelina would say she is not sure whether she will vote for him or not. Are you kidding me?
