OMG If this is really true, than I must say this is just AMAZING!! Angelina is really THE BEST!! She is amazing mother, wife, she works for UN and she is such a great actress and probably the only actress that can replace a man in a movie!!!! AMAZING!! She is such a great role model for every woman, no wonder that there are people who are so jealous!! Unfortunately, even today there are still people who can not stand successful woman, and that is way haters behave like those here on every Angelina thread!! This truly is exciting in terms of a Hollywood studio replacing a male “star” with a female star. Wow. Regarding Nicole going back to work and Angie too–Don’t forget making a movie is not like having a 9 to 5 job. The A list stars have fabulous trailers that would fit their kids and their needs. Sometimes they are on set for maybe all of an hour in a given day and the rest is spent in the trailer or on the lot. Other days they may film for 10 hours with breaks. So when the kids are babies, there is plenty of time to bond with them etc. And A listers like Angie and Nicole can have things like breastfeeding hours written into their contracts. So even if Angie does go back to work soon, it isn’t like she would not see the babies or kids for ten hours at a time. Since Angie had a C-section, she will have to slowly get back to normal so she doesn”t pull the stitches out. Nicole on the other hand delivered normally according to a newspaper, plus as we all know, she was exercised with some prenatal and now postnatal program to keep in shape knowing that she had these movies to do. I can’t wait to see this movie and Nine!

Angie will do justices to it. Good luck to her.

Are you stoned, stupid, or both? She’s had three enormous hits in the past six months: Wanted, Kung Fu Panda and Beowulf. If she was box office poison the studio would never have offered her this part.

Since the movie is in pre-production and will require a major script re-write changing the male lead to a female lead, she probably won’t start working for another ten months to a year. Plenty of time for her to stay home, rest up and bond with the kiddies.

Now go drool over some “Friends” reruns and ask yourself why poor Jenny-poo can’t get any of her movies released.

I have no problem with Nicole working now. She is an actress and her career is to act, and she will be able to arrange her schedule to include lots of mommy time. RachelWeitz went back to work when her son was one month old. HeidiK was back at work in weeks. NaomiWatts was back working ina new movie in a few months after giving birth. JLo just had twins and is to begin a new movie. Marcia Cross had twins and was back at work in 5-6 weeks. I just used Nicole as an example. Many women in the US are back at very stressful jobs with long hours weeks after giving birth as the US lacks a national uniform guaranteed maternity leave policy and they must put their babies in childcare. So top actors are in a very enviable position when they give birth.

I am just so tired of the idiots who will rush here to knock Angie for signing to do a film and who never criticize anyone else.

Do they even have a script? I’m curious as to how they are going to turn a 1200 page book into a 2 or 2.5 hour movie and keep the plot intact. And yes, I read the entire book.

I could see that book better as a mini-series, maybe six or seven hours long, but I don’t see any way they can turn it into a movie that stays faithful to the book.

Yeah, but in her Wanted interviews last month, Jolie said that the only film she is working on now is Atlas Shrugged. She said in various interviews and the only film she mentioned was Atlas Shrugged. It’s a project that she’s been working on developing for a long time now.

In an interview this year, Vadim Perelman said he was working on the script. The producers of the film even confirmed in interviews that Angelina Jolie was confirmed for the role and that they planned on filming at the end of 2008.

You have not kept up with this project. Perelman QUIT as director and writer months ago. He has not been replaced at this time. Angelina has said she is still very interested in AS, she has signed a letter of intent but not a contract, but the project appears stalled at this point. There will be no filming anytime soon.

I would love to see AJ with Daniel Craig again in anything but a Bond movie.

Sorry, but I don’t know much about the book. Could you please briefly give me the synopsis?? All I read about it on online forums is that it’s a great role for an actress.

WELL HER MANAGER SAID IT HIMSELF… PEOPLE HATE HER OR LOVE HER, ONLY SHE HAS POWER LIKE THAT.

I love seeing her in the action stuff. She really is one of the few actresses around who can pull it off. I remember the fight scenes in MMS. Any other woman doing that we would have called it some kind of abuse. But with Angie, we know that she can hold her own. While I loved Wanted, I did think she was way too thin, I hope that after these babies she does not loose too much weight. I looked back at pictures of her, and she has always been thin. I think because she is such a force personality wise, you get the impression that she is a much larger woman than she really is. But that being said, I think she was her most sexist in Tomb raider. I just don’t want the drama again about her weight. It will get in the way people talking about her movie performances.

But what confidence the studio must have in her. How often have you heard of a part originally written for a man being rewritten for a woman. That is really saying a great deal about her, and her ability to pull this off. I think Tom made a mistake. I look forward to seeing this movie, and imagining how it would have been with a male in the role instead.

I was needing some Jolie/Pitt news after a fairly quiet week.

Angelina and the re-write of Edwin A Salt is the exception which proves the rule.

I think that whilst you can have men who can’t act but can do action and only action (Arnie Schwartznegger springs to mind), I don’t think it is possible for a woman who can’t act to do only action heroine movies.

I think any woman who wants to occupy the action hero space with any sort of credibility must have both, acting chops AND action chops. (yes, the cliche still applies that a woman must be twice as good as a man to be considered equal etc etc.) That woman who plays the amazonian woman on TV (can’t remember her name) and others like her, just won’t cut it on the big screen.

But in the long term, this will happen.

Interestingly enough, in the Hong Kong Movie kung fu space, there used to be several women action movie stars (whose names I’ve unfortunately forgotten as my cantonese is merely functional) who could really kick a s s as kung fu fighters. Did you watch crouching tiger hidden dragon? If you did, do you remember the older woman (not michelle yeoh but the 50 something year old woman who played Zi Yi’s coach). Well, in her hey day, she was one of the top women kung fu movie stars in Hong Kong.

Film is scheduled to begin filming Feb or March 2009 in NYC, that is subject to change of course with Angie’s casting according to one website. I imagine Brad will be more than happy to take care of his six kids while Angie is working.

Angie began work on AMH in September/October 2006 when Shiloh was 4-5 months old I believe. Brad took great care of the kids, made commercials, produced AMH. This is a couple that knows how to take care of business.

I hate being gone the 8.5 hours a day I am now let alone for months at a time. I dont see how some of these moms do it.

Angelina is not working 9-5 each day. Lots of acting is sitting around waiting to shoot a scene. She can also avail herself of having her kids on the set with her everyday, will have a trailer to accomodate the kids, can have her contract set her work hours and provide for onset childcare, does not have to be on set everyday. Plus Brad can be on the set with the kids also as they take turns working and keeping the kids, they are lucky in that both can alternate being full time parents. Three of the kids will be in school next year, Maddox (7), Pax (5), Zahara (4). So her working life is significantly more flexible than that of many moms.

Thanks for sharing the synopsis. I just revised my estimation: it would take 12 hours minimum, not six, to do justice to the book. It would have to be a very long miniseries. I don’t see any other way they can put it on film.

Where did you get the information when the The Fighter would be filming? What five projects are you whining about that Brad is connected to work on in 08 and 09. He has done TOL and now IB.

Last thing I read from the director of the Fighter is that it is on hold by the studio. Which is why he agreed to do another movie. Actors often leave if scheduling can’t be worked out. (Remember Damon left for the exact reason) So there is not information that Brad will do this movie

You can be on set for an hour one day and spend the next ten in your trailer with your kids and babies. Magazine Newstand Sales Drop 6% except People and In Style which see gains.

NEW YORK — Newsstand sales of U.S. magazines fell 6.3 percent in the first half of 2008, an industry group said Monday, as rising gas and food costs led consumers to cut back on nonessential spending.

Most top titles, including best-selling Cosmopolitan and O, The Oprah Magazine, had sharp declines. Of the top 10 newsstand sellers, only People, the entertainment news magazine, and In Style posted gains.

“This is nothing more than really just the impact of the economy,” said John Harrington, an industry analyst with Harrington Associates. “People are shopping very cautiously and less frequently, avoiding impulse buys, which are what magazine purchases are.”

Publishers redouble efforts to sign up subscribers during economic slowdowns because they know newsstand sales will ebb, which they need to offset because advertising rates are based on minimum circulation targets.

Newsstand sales are far more lucrative than subscriptions, though, meaning circulation revenue is dropping at most titles.

“It is easy to manipulate subscription numbers because publishers can sell them at a loss just to meet their rate base,” Harrington said. “The growth may not be high-quality subscribers that will renew.”

Overall magazine circulation, which includes subscription and newsstand sales, was flat at 349.9 million copies in the period, as paid subscriptions edged higher to 290.2 million copies, the Audit Bureau of Circulations reported in its biannual tally.

Single-copy magazine sales in the six months ended June 30 fell to 44.1 million copies from 47.1 million a year ago. The survey included 467 titles that reported results in both periods.

Like newspapers, magazines have been struggling with declining advertising revenue as readers increasingly go online for news and entertainment. In the second quarter, magazines had 8.2 percent fewer ad pages, the Publishers Information Bureau reported.

Hearst Corp.’s Cosmopolitan magazine, the top-seller on the country’s newsstands, had a 6 percent decline to 1.75 million copies _ nearly 114,000 fewer magazines. Top 10 sellers US Weekly, Woman’s World and O, The Oprah Magazine each posted a double-digit decline in newsstand sales.

People, published by Time Inc., boosted newsstand sales by 5.2 percent and remained the No. 2 best-selling magazine at kiosks around the country. In Style was also able to increase newsstand sales.

Rolling Stone, the venerable music magazine, said Monday that it will abandon its iconic size for a smaller, more rack-friendly format starting in fall.

Publisher Jann Wenner said the change is not to conserve costs, but partly to offer advertisers and sellers a more uniform size. Wenner Media said the new size will allow for more editorial pages and higher quality paper that will result in sharper photos.

The magazine had 6.6 percent lower newsstand sales of 115,644 issues in the latest period.

A few hours ago Michael Fleming’s story announced that Angelina Jolie will be taking what was previously thought to be Tom Cruise’s role in Columbia’s Edwin A. Salt, a high-toned spy thriller that Phillip Noyce will direct. As soon as I saw it on my iPhone, around 4:45 pm today, I e-mailed Noyce to offer congratulations.

It turns out this was Noyce’s first notification that the deal between Jolie and Columbia was signed, sealed and delivered. It took three days to work out the particulars, which is quite fast by Hollywood standards. Deals can take months to cobble together, obviously depending on the particulars. The title will now be “something A. Salt” — the female first name obviously not yet decided. The shoot will hopefully begin in February ‘09.

Cruise had actually lost interest in the Salt part because he felt it was too close to his Mission Impossible character of Ethan Hunt.

I’m trying to think of other parts written for guys that women wound up playing, and all I can think of is Rosalind Russell playing Hildy Johnson in Howard Hawks’ The Front Page.

She stays home, but as an actress she has to sign for roles..isnt that her job? arent all the women that work have kids? if they didnt work , they wouldnt give their kids what they need. OMG! I forgot all about her! The first and PREMIER kick-ass female character. Even Angie has to bow down to Sigouney Weaver’s Ripley.
I’m old enough to remember this seminal role and how much I was bowled over by it. Tough, yet vulnerable. I hope Angie plays it that way if she truly does have the role in this film. I love Angie but ‘Wanted’ and ‘Tomb Raider’ are little cartoony compared to say the Bourne movies. I’d like to see her play an action character but in a more serious movie like those Bourne films or at least a character who is a little conflicted; Mrs. Smith as written by John le Carré.

Jolie is believable in these action roles because she’s not that great of an actress. (In the male category, this also works for Vin Diesel.) That, and her celebrity bubble has grown so large, it’s impossible to see Angelina Jolie in any role where she is not playing Angelina Jolie. Ironically, this is the same affliction Cruise suffers from. The action film is a perfectly acceptable form of escapism which registers Jolie, with her jet-setting lifestyle and international causes, as believable, mostly because the way she throws men around on screen is probably how things go down in the bedroom with Brad Pitt.
While audiences watch Jolie dodge bullets and do back-flips, they’re equally as impressed by Jolie returning to heroin-chic after dropping two babies off.

#352: like you, neil I loved Ripley. Her and Linda Hamilton in Terminator were my kind of heroines. Angie was good in Cyborg 2 also. That’s when I first saw her. Not great acting but she did plenty of action (and at such a young age).

I just commented on that a little while ago. Too funny. It’s not Brad, Clooney & Damon and it’s definitely NOT Angie. The item refers to a bet that almost prevented a sequel from being made. If that had been any of the 2 Oceans sequels, then X would have been the wife who cheated and Brad the actor who was cheated on. Neither Clooney nor Damon were married when O12 was made. But, it’s not them anyway, because they’re all still friends. One thing that some of the commenters said that ITA with - Angie is NOT a fan of Porgie so no way would she sleep with him! And Matt Damon? He himself said they’ve known each other too long and their chemistry in TGS was more like brother-sister.

So…definitely NOT Pitt, Clooney & Damon. I’d have to think about who it could be, though. I’m inclined to think it’s not a recent BI. Enty sometimes goes into the wayback machine and phrases the BI so that it’s confusing and sounds like a recent thing. He did that recently with a BI that turned out to be about Van Johnson & Keenan Wynn…from the fricking 40s/50s!

I don’t think it can be Brad,George and Matt. If we go with Ocean’s guess,it means it was before the sequel. This is exactly when both Angie and Lucy were having babies. Some told Brad was number three and Angie was THAT woman,it can’t be true either because Brad and George were pretty great friends to each other during O13’s filming and during Cannes and during JJ’s premieres and MC’s ones. so were Matt and Brad,he supported him for JJ’s premiere in Toronto.so this rules out Brad as number three actor.

I like the idea of O12’s movie though,but again I don’t think even If the woman had been Aniston,Brad would have been still friend with George or Matt.

and I seriously can’t see Brad as number 2 either,not because I don’t want since I’m their fan,but because Brad looks possessive about Angie,so I doubt he would offer her to George.

I think number 1 and number 3 are in the sequel but not number 2,the number 2 actor can just be friend with them.

I would agree with both Geena and Linda as strong action heroines. I also loved Anne Parillaud as Nikita ( but please, not the dubbed version) Now that was a conflicted character! I’m sure there have been others too in the intervening years between the 70’s and now, but with this movie, if Angie gets it and it is succesful, she will probably cement her reputation as The Queen of action films, much like Jamie Lee Curtis was for horror films.

I loved Aliens. That’s the ONLY horror/sci fi movie that’s ever seen an actor get an Oscar nod. But the stupid thing is - Sigourney only ever got offered Aliens sequels for action roles. She’s one of the few actresses from her generation that could have handled a non-sci-fi action role. Meryl Streep is the most versatile actor of their generation…but I can’t imagine her as Ripley. The one action-type movie she did was pretty tame - The River Wild…for her Kevin Bacon game connection…

Oh wow, I loved that movie in the original. Parillaud totally kicked ass. But she was fascinating as a tormented and conflicted heroine. I hated the dubbed version; it drives me up the wall when you see the mouths saying one thing and hear a disembodied voice saying something else.
