OlderAngelina Jolie Replaces Tom Cruise in “Edwin A. Salt”
Angelina Jolie will be replacing Tom Cruise in the Columbia Pictures espionage thriller Edwin A. Salt.
Variety says Angie is “the rare female who is viable in an action genre that has been almost the exclusive domain of men.” No doubt!!!
Jolie would play the title character, a CIA officer who’s accused by a defector of being a Russian sleeper spy and must elude capture long enough to establish her innocence. Edwin A. Salt will be rewritten by the movie studios and will undergo a title change, obviously.
Tom had long been rumored to take the project but eventually bowed out because (reportedly) a $20 million salary wasn’t possible. The film will reunite Angie will her Bone Collector director, Philip Noyce.
Wow, who saw this one coming!? More spy chick Angie! Woo!!!!!

Since Valkyrie looks like a disaster before the film has even opened — and they are saying now it may never open — maybe a food fight is what Tom needs.

Regarding Nicole going back to work and Angie too–Don’t forget making a movie is not like having a 9 to 5 job. The A list stars have fabulous trailers that would fit their kids and their needs. Sometimes they are on set for maybe all of an hour in a given day and the rest is spent in the trailer or on the lot. Other days they may film for 10 hours with breaks. So when the kids are babies, there is plenty of time to bond with them etc. And A listers like Angie and Nicole can have things like breastfeeding hours written into their contracts. So even if Angie does go back to work soon, it isn’t like she would not see the babies or kids for ten hours at a time. Since Angie had a C-section, she will have to slowly get back to normal so she doesn”t pull the stitches out. Nicole on the other hand delivered normally according to a newspaper, plus as we all know, she was exercised with some prenatal and now postnatal program to keep in shape knowing that she had these movies to do. I can’t wait to see this movie and Nine!
It is fun to see Sci Fi boy whine. Too funny. Tom bowed out, whatever. Just Jared is good. He should run for political office.

Love how everyone is coming to Angie’s defense on this thread before the haters even have the chance to post their objections! Way to cut them off at the pass! And too right, she will have lots of time before this movie gets underway.
It does sound like the same ol same ol role that she excels at doing. Rewrites and recasting should be resolved within the next 9 months so guess the twins will just be trying to stand. Have their front teeth. Still be on a bottle… But, there is good old Brad to take care of 5 Children under the age of 4 and a 6 year old.

Always the downer aren’t you! I realize that you make a career out of being unpleasant, but Angelina’s last few movies have made more money than any other lead female (Wanted, Panda etc) and most male leads. Why would you think she wouldn’t be able to make this a winner too? She has a huge fan base that isn’t still mired in who did what to whom when. She is marketable. She has talent and by that I mean talent that translates on the Big Screen. So why shouldn’t she be successful. Whereas Tom’s movies are bombing. Because he was so obnoxious in his personal life, people are having a hard time separating him from his roles which is kind of a death of a career move for him. He is suppose to be really good in his latest cameo; probably because he is made up and doens’t look like himself. Hopefully he can resurrect his career as he has had several really great roles, but hard to see how he is going to do it at this point if YouTube scientology tidbits with him looking like a loon keep getting leaked.

I agree with you all Angie is great and will be phenominal in a spy movie. That girl looks so hot with a gun in her hand. I suppose it will take awhile but Angie never has to worry about nabbing a good role. I love that she took Tom Cs or for that matter any mans movie role.

Brad is the FATHER of his six very much wanted and loved children. Angie will be looking after all SIX of their kids while Brad works in IB starting Oct 13. That is what parents do, they jointly take care of their kids. The Jolie-Pitt mom and dad take turns working and being with their kids. Neither Brad nor Angie sees being a parent as a burden as you so obviously do.
And by the way the kids are 7, 4, 3, 2, and 2@1 month.

Are you stoned, stupid, or both? She’s had three enormous hits in the past six months: Wanted, Kung Fu Panda and Beowulf. If she was box office poison the studio would never have offered her this part.
Since the movie is in pre-production and will require a major script re-write changing the male lead to a female lead, she probably won’t start working for another ten months to a year. Plenty of time for her to stay home, rest up and bond with the kiddies.
Now go drool over some “Friends” reruns and ask yourself why poor Jenny-poo can’t get any of her movies released.

Does this mean that now Angelina will be in direct competition with her partner, Brad, for the masculine roles? Why wasn’t Brad offered this role? He has made some good spy/adventure movies, and he is male i think. Just curious.
