Angelina Jolie Replaces Tom Cruise in “Edwin A. Salt”

Angelina Jolie Replaces Tom Cruise in “Edwin A. Salt”

Angelina Jolie will be replacing Tom Cruise in the Columbia Pictures espionage thriller Edwin A. Salt.

Variety says Angie is “the rare female who is viable in an action genre that has been almost the exclusive domain of men.” No doubt!!!

Jolie would play the title character, a CIA officer who’s accused by a defector of being a Russian sleeper spy and must elude capture long enough to establish her innocence. Edwin A. Salt will be rewritten by the movie studios and will undergo a title change, obviously.

Tom had long been rumored to take the project but eventually bowed out because (reportedly) a $20 million salary wasn’t possible. The film will reunite Angie will her Bone Collector director, Philip Noyce.

Wow, who saw this one coming!? More spy chick Angie! Woo!!!!!

PT and Jill,

I have to give you guys kudos. I remember all the times you were predicting this “relationship” with the X and the Urinator would go the way of the other failed ones she has had, and i didn’t really believe you guys. Granted, i wanted it to happen, because in my opinion, she has not suffered or been embarrassed enough for what she tried to do to Brad and Angie. You nailed it.

+++++++++++++++++++

There was never a doubt in my mind that The Urinator was a contract boyfriend. I thought his lifespan would run the duration of Angie’s pregnancy and the first photos until after CCOBB came out. You know…why break in a new act for movie premiere season when you’ve already got someone trained? I’m not surprised that the contract ended earlier than expect though because The Urinator is a wildcard. He does shite on a whim, then 3 seconds later re-thinks it. The fact that Chestica Simpson lasted nearly a year and X barely 3 months is a clue to how unbearable that b#tch is. Brad must have been in a coma from 5 1/2 years. He snapped out of it on Jan 2, 2004 when he walked onto the M&MS set and glommed his baby blues on Angie!

Goodnight Alex. I am off myself.

Jill and TRT very funny. Goodnight ladies.

Re: Ted Griffin, Jennifer Aniston, and Rumor Has It

“Indeed friendships were lost. And O12 had a *beep* script with no Griffin. When I see a certain someone working with or being offerred by Soderbergh/Clooney then I can say perhaps all is forgiven with the RHI debacle. HW is a small town and people close ranks and you don’t mess with the person who has more clout than you publicly (unless you play your hand like David Geffen against the suits). You may kiss ass with Ron Meyer’s daughter but doesn’t guarantee the film in your production belt will be greenlit.”

ocean’s 13 script wasn’t much better. ted g. is a brilliant writer and i hope he doesn’t chuck it permanently. it’s too bad that brad can’t even help him out because of appearances. the problem is that all the smoke and mirrors leaves him twisting in the wind because it looks like there was cause. whether that is true or not may never be revealed. the one person who knows is mark ruffalo and he is not a power player in hollywood and i also don’t think he wants to be involved in that side of things. what he has said is somewhat telling.

jenny might have gotten away clean if she has just tucked her tail and kept her mouth shut, but no, there had to be a fall guy. speaking of which that is part of the reason why she didn’t work for two years which is four-fold in my opinion 1) she didn’t have brad to push her for projects which i understand he did a lot of when it was clear friends was done. which i think points more to the fact that the marriage was moribund than anything else. if he had really wanted to start a family why help her fix 6-8 projects, i think it was a lovely parting gift a la the price is right. she’s never had the like again and she never will imo. you can say she threw away the opportunity or you can say she was never up to the task. if tend to believe the former. there has to be a very, very good reason jenny is in therapy for over 20 years. 2) there was zero good buzz about any of her filmwork and the possibility that costner was honest about his experiences/feelings or even just silent would be another black mark against jenny. if he was outraged as suspected the source he may have been very vocal. 3) like the garbage with costner she had to throw out sympathy lures about her marriage ending when it became clear to her that just handling the split with truthful dignity wasn’t getting her any attention. it is hard to say whose idea the vanity fair mess was but as soon as she threw angie under a bus she had chosen to make herself one monster problem in hollywood and 4) when the studios wanted to use the marriage ending as a selling point for the break up she was only too happy to oblige and that supplied the coffin nails.

jenny’s friendship with mayer’s daughter isn’t helping her much at the moment. if goree girls is greenlit it may just be dreamworks plan to leave it at paramount when they split. paramount has no stake in it at the moment. anyone who knows the mess that new line cinema left behind can imagine that outcome.

great find! this my friends is why aniston has her own production company, to create jobs for herself. Speaking of which, what happened to her baby “Goree Girls”? Seems like there hasn’t been any updates from her production company aside from acquiring projects for development. Looks like it’s going to take more than $27m to get those off the ground.

Oh looks like Aniston will be taking Management to the Toronto film festival to find a distributor. Same strategy Kimmel International had when it took Synecdoche, New York to Cannes but will it have the same results?

Is this true?? LOL!!!

good movie for Angie

Click for a look back at John Mayer’s many loves.

Have John Mayer and Jennifer Aniston called it quits? All signs point to yes.

The “Daughters” crooner raised suspicion that he’s single again after his makeup artist took note of his puffy eyes before a recent gig, a source told the Daily News’ Rush & Molloy. Word has it Aniston has already moved on.

But according to Britain’s Mirror newspaper, Mayer was the one who initiated the split.

“There’s been a bit of tension for some time,” said a source close to the 30-year-old singer. “They initially opted for a break, hoping a trial split might make them stronger. Sadly, it doesn’t seem to have worked.”

The same source added that initially, Aniston was “furious” when Mayer told her it was over, but now she’s just sad and “a little heartbroken.”

The couple-no-longer first showed signs of togetherness in May.

The former “Friends” star has been unable to find love since her divorce four years ago from Brad Pitt, who, on the other hand, celebrated the birth of twins with Angelina Jolie last month.

Mayer has dated a slew of stars since hitting the big time including Jessica Simpson and Jennifer Love Hewitt.

Aniston recently completed her latest movie, ironically titled “He’s Just Not That Into You.” Looks like this film may have hit a little too close to home.

Burn After Reading
Release Date: September 12, 2008

Movie of the Day for Thursday, August 14, 2008

Comedy has never been the Coen Brothers’ strong suit, at least not at the box office. Their dark, twisted tales of humor and violence always seem to strike a chord with a similarly dark and twisted niche audience, but that doesn’t usually happen until the home market. Despite the number of nominations and awards their films earn, the Coens have yet to make a veritable blockbuster.

That trend could change when their latest comedy, Burn After Reading, expands into theaters this fall, following its debut at the Venice Film Festival. A typical Coen Brothers’ story of greed, blackmail, double-crossing and crooked characters, the film packs plenty of star power, including Coen Brothers alumni George Clooney (O Brother, Where Art Thou) and Frances McDormand (Blood Simple, Fargo), along with newcomers Brad Pitt, Tilda Swinton and John Malkovich.

With all the principal cast members either being Oscar winners or nominees, the Coens obviously know how to pick their talent. Plus, names like Clooney and Pitt can’t hurt in Focus Features’ mission to market the movie to a broad audience. Many will be interested to see how these two leading men hold up together in a non-Ocean’s movie.

Once again sharing the writing and directing credits, the Coens’ mischievous caper tells of a cynical ex-CIA agent (Malkovich) who has written a scathing memoir against his former employer. His soon-to-be ex-wife (Swinton), who’s shacking up with a federal marshal (Clooney), steals his only copy, but accidentally leaves it at a gym run by Chad Feldheimer (Pitt) and Linda Litzke (McDormand), who plan to blackmail the CIA vet.

The plot seems to adhere to the classic Coen Brothers’ formula of too many people getting too heavily involved in a scheme to make money. The sibling filmmakers love this theme, which finds its way into practically all their movies - comedies and dramas.

With the success of the Coens’ Oscar-winning No Country For Old Men fresh on moviegoers’ minds, the brothers have their own tough act to follow. But Burn After Reading has a lot of advanced buzz, and given its relatively small $20 million budget, it should have a smooth enough run to match its cost, which would put it in line with the brothers’ career average, or perhaps even a little more. Working in its favor is the high-profile cast and beginning of awards season; working against it is the fall release date and the Coens’ reputation for only doing moderate business. Burn After Reading probably won’t give them their first certified blockbuster after all, but it should earn enough so studios will continue to give them the funds to keep trying. Rappoport to host Venice fest
Fest will screen Coen’s ‘Burn After Reading’
By NICK VIVARELLI

Rising Russian star Kseniya Rappoport will host the opening and closing ceremonies of the 65th Venice Film Festival, which kicks off Aug. 27 with Joel and Ethan Coen’s spy comedy “Burn After Reading.”
Rappoport, 34, has a wide Italo fan base thanks to her role as a prostitute-turned-cleaning lady in Giuseppe Tornatore’s dark drama “The Unknown,” which swept the country’s 2007 David di Donatello nods and earned her best actress laurels.

NO CRUISE CONTROL
MOVE TO FORCE TOM & PARTNER PAULA WAGNER OUT AT UA
By PETER LAURIA

August 14, 2008

Tom Cruise is on the verge of getting fired yet again as Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer CEO Harry Sloan looks to bring Cruise’s United Artists studio under the control of MGM production chief Mary Parent, sources told The Post.

The move comes as Sloan reaches the conclusion that Cruise and business partner Paula Wagner, who own 30 percent of UA, “don’t know what they are doing,” several sources close to MGM or inside its investor group said.

“Harry made a mistake in backing those two, and now he’s trying to figure out how to rectify it,” one source said.

Indeed, Cruise and Wagner, who were kicked off the Paramount lot in 2006 by Sumner Redstone, have suffered both box-office failure with “Lions for Lambs” and a public-relations debacle that has engulfed the upcoming “Valkyrie.”

BP has a successful production company. Entire article at link

According to a report in Monday’s issue of Variety, skittish studio production chiefs have allowed dozens of producer deals to lapse in the scramble to minimise costs. The report notes that the number of such deals has declined by roughly 40% over the last ten years, from 302 in 1998 to 180 today. I

Of course, the mega-producers like Brian Grazer, Scott Rudin, Jim Bruckheimer, Barbara Broccoli, John Davis, Neal Moritz, Joel Silver, Tom Hanks and our very own Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner of Working Title aren’t going anywhere. No way Jose. Neither are Gore Verbinski, Ridley and Tony Scott, Nora Ephron, Brad Pitt… the list goes on. Good luck to them; they make the Hollywood chieftains piles of cash and they’ve earned the right to have a direct line to the studios’ production heads.

Let’s hope that money will be used to effectiviely improve the levees. Support the MIR project.

Billions approved for hurricane protection

Meg Farris / Eyewitness News

With Governor Jindal calling it a new era for coastal Louisiana, he announced the state will spend the most it has ever spent on coastal restoration, from east Louisiana all the way to the Texas state line.

Gov. Jindal announced a major hurricane protection plan.

“If I’ve said it once, I’ve said it a hundred times, I can’t say it enough. Let me be clear, we cannot protect our properties and our people with levees alone,” Gov. Jindal said at the press conference at the University of New Orleans. “For levees to work requires healthy wetlands and coastal restoration.”

“So today, absolutely is a critical part of hurricane defense. We are being proactive. Let’s make no mistake about it, Louisiana is not waiting for the federal government,” adding that the plan will constitute the world’s largest public works project.

“The time for studies is over. Now is the time to turn some dirt,” he said.

The state’s share of $1.8 billion will be used to rebuild levees, and the $1.1 billion from the state, the federal government and oil revenue is going to hurricane protection and coastal restoration.

The Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority approved where the $300 million in state surplus funds will go, and the greater New Orleans area will receive $100 million from that money
