OlderOrlando Bloom Hits Sarajevo Film Festival
Pirates of the Caribbean star Orlando Bloom announces his stepping aside from big movie productions to work in a film about life in the Bosnian capital Sarajevo during the 1992-95 siege at a meeting on Tuesday in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The film is based on the book Fools Rush In by American writer and filmmaker Bill Carter who lived in Sarajevo at the height of the siege. It will be directed by Brazilian director Andrucha Waddington.
“A film is a very specific and personal account of Bill Carter’s experience in Sarajevo during the war and we would very much like to make the film here,” the 31-year-old actor said. “This is a departure from the very big Hollywood productions. I’m not in fact playing Bill in this movie but I read the script and the very human story at the very core of this film spoke to me very clearly.”

Lets hope they hire ACTUAL BOSNIANS, SERBS & CROATS for this Im sure to be masterpiece, instead of a couple of desperate for work russian & polish actors with bad slavic accents. “Welcome to Sarajevo” was amazing, so I’m looking forward to this movie. It’s something that people need to be aware of. If we don’t know this world’s history, we’re bound to repeat it. Over and over and over.
Many of the articles about his trip have mentioned their desire to hire local actors. Most specifically those who went through the war themselves.
This is a wonderful project.
If you can be proud of a total stranger, I’m proud of HIM.

It’s so refreshing to see a young Hollywood star use his celebrity and clout to get a small, important film like this made. If he’s a producer, that means that he is investing his own money in this film. Doing something socially relevant with his millions, instead of blowing it on booze and drugs. Hollywood might want to deport him for setting a bad example for the Lohans of the world.

Mika-good point. We have better actors that are more fit for this type of movie. Western actors cannot do the justice in such movies. It’s much easier to make an act realistic if you have lived in that part of the world and got first hand experience, it’s like getting hypnotised and reliving your past.
i am bosnian but currently live in australia and visit bosnia every 6 months and am acutally suprised that an internationally recognised actor who is used to big budget films is interested in this sort of project. maybe it will give him even more recognition and publicity? who knows but i am pretty excited and cant wait for it to be released because the book is amazing but i hope local actors will be used in the film because it would be a wonderful oppurtunity and make it seem more realistic as opposed to those fake accents. but why does every movie about bosnia have to be related to the war. the country has so much more to offer !

Orlando looks great…….relax, happy and seems to have his career in mind. This is what I was waiting on. A movie, and the confirmation is directly out of his mouth. Cann’t wait to see this movie, it sounds great and worth my $15.

Im so happy! I love the southern slavic countries, me speaking a few slavic languages hopefully they will have their people in the movie. I hate when movies get American actors and have them create phony slavic accents and speak the language with an american accent.
According to the news, they plan on using as many local actors as they can.

I am just curious as to why many people on this site are so negative about Orlando and Miranda Kerr. Can someone explain? I have no opinion one way or the other but I have read so much hate directed at them and want to know why that is. Did they do something awful I am unaware of? He seems alright to me and I really know nothing about her.
And didn’t everyone say that Orlando and Kate B’s relationship was a fake when it was happening and now this one is but with Kate it was real???

That was rude! I am not playing dumb. All I gather from posts here is that “he can’t act, she looks like a gabbage patch, and she had a boyfriend when they met” Hardly cause for such venom towards them. Oh really? That would be a real change. Thanks for filling us in. Unfortunately, set ups and pap shots are par for the course with these two and have been since last fall, starting with Ago and Villa restaurants. Without the pap shots, there’s no proof that they’re really vacationing together, and it seems at least one of them - namely Miranda - wants very much to prove they’re an item. Nice of Bloom to let her do all the work and all the talking. I guess if he were more secure in himself as an actor and as a man, he wouldn’t need to play the PR games. Fingers crossed that all this current buzz about upcoming acting gigs is real and not another “An Education” or “Seasons of Dust” bust. Till I see photos of Bloom on set, I think it’s all fluff - like his ‘relationship’ with Miranda.
Hopefully, the work reports will become real very soon.
What was that that you were saying about them not showing up for pap set-ups in NY? Well check out the new thread, they had the paps waiting at the store for them to pull up, looking right at them. So much for them being “apart from the paps” huh? That’s the “show” part of the “showmance”. Face it honey, they only exist in front of the paps and it’s all for show.
