OlderMichael Phelps: One More Gold To Rule Them All!
Swim-king Michael Phelps wins his 7th gold model of the 2008 Olympics games with a win in the 100-meter butterfly on Friday in Beijing, China.
Although Phelps, 23, has been used to winning by substantial margins, he proved he could win the tough race by eclipsing Milorad Cavic of Serbia by 0.01 seconds! Phelps finished the race in 50.58 seconds and for the first time, didn’t set a new world record.
American Ian Crocker, who is the current world record-holder, finished off the medal stand in fourth place.
Phelps now only needs a gold in his final 4×100 medley relay on Saturday night to win a record eight gold medals in one Olympics. He will surpass Mark Spitz, who initially set the record at 7 gold medals.

Phelps is a beast! I hope he gets number eight!
I think his body is hot as hell. From the neck up, he’s a little goofy looking. Not fug, just ‘different’. I think it makes him cute in a strange way. IMHO

If you look at the underwater view, it’s clear that MP won. It’s hard tell to tell from up above b/c the Serb glided in and was so close to the wall when MP was mid 1/2 stroke, but he just absolutely crashed into that wall just in time…crazy awesome. BTW all of the walls have electronic sensors that are very very sensitive, so lets stop grasping at straws and just enjoy this!! :)

he’s cool, seems down to earth enough. too bad he’s an american, with the entire u.s. media machine going nuts over him it detracts from his performance and simply turns him into another u.s. made ‘hero’.
and wtf is up with phelps not participating in the 100 meters free style? Better known as the KINGS NUMBER! a swimmer that hasnt won that number at the olympics can NEVER be considered the best. I greatly respects phelps, but winning in some number nobody cares about and not participating in the most valued number there is in his sports greatly detracts from his career. anyone with talent can win the numbers he’s won so far, but only the very best can win the 100 meters freestyle.
why do some people here have to talk down on serbia to praise the us?
phelps won, it was close. you could say they both deserved to win.
if it was the other way around, so close but the serb had won, there would be a LOT of complaints from the american part. A LOT!
There is no way that Michael Phelps is overrated. Things like someone’s singing ability and artistic ability can be debated. But in a race where you’ve gotta beat someone fair and square, there is no room for debate; either you win or you don’t. Michael has consistently proven that he can win and beat people resoundingly. He is not overrated because he can and has put up the numbers, most importantly, he’s lived up to expectations.
looks aside, I think he is doing a great job, and I’m very proud that he is making a name for America!
