Tom Cruise takes daughter Suri, 2, to the indoor playground at New York City’s Chelsea Piers on Saturday afternoon. She’s still sporting that cute pink nail polish of hers!
Wife Katie Holmes was busy at rehearsals for her upcoming Broadway debut in All My Sons.
Tom, 46, wore low-tops by Nike and carried around Suri’s stuffed bunny rabbit.

This is just horrible. I was willing to give mini-man and KH the benefit of the doubt until I saw the video on tmz. They smile and grin all the way to the car, while their daughter is clearly distressed by the flashing and calling. KH, even though her baby, young enough to be given a bottle… even though that baby is crying, still holds her out and smiles. She doesn’t move to draw her in closer, to hold her face into her so she is comforted. The mini-man, hearing his daughter cry, doesn’t go to her, try to block the cameras and flashing as they walk to the car. This is horrible. And Lincoln, no, no one needs to be hidden away, but you don’t teach a child to be fearless in water, by tossing them in and letting them figure it out themselves. This was disgusting and I’ll never purchase another ticket to anything that those two abusive parents are in. There are ways and means to carry on a normal life with children, when you’re a sought after star. Many stars, more popular than even these two, have managed to do just that. This is abusive to that child. These two have no parenting skills whatsoever and have proven to me that this is all about them and what flaunting that child can do for them.

I have seen a lot of parents take their kids out play on weekends. it was a beautiful Saturday afternoon, and you, the child-hating person ,blame the loving parent took the kid out to play?
Lincoln, I never said I blamed the Cruises for what the paps do. However, the Cruises are only in control of what they are in control of. I blame them for only that. Media is in a frenzy because for some reason people buy and read anything about the Cruises. I don’t think that is because they are popular (which I believe the Cruises do think). I believe it’s because the majority of the public sees them as freaky and weird and wonder what they are going to do next. What they are in control of, is how it affects their young daughter. Had they come out of that door, and the flashing started and KH turned her daughter to her body and put a hand on her head to comfort her…. side stepped a bit to shield her from the lights and commotion, I’d have said, she was being comforting and protecting. Had TC walked between his wife and the frenzy, also comforting his daughter and protecting them or at least trying to, I would have said good father. However, both of them did not. They had control of the entire “moment”. First choice, they took her out at night to an event not exactly toddler friendly, I would expect. Second choice, they chose to do it knowing there would be a media frenzy. Second choice, they did not discreetly exit the restaurant. Third choice, their daughter was “held” in a position that gave media exposure to her but was in no way comforting to the child. Fourth choice, when their daughter began crying, they did not attempt to comfort her or put her first, they continued to hold her exposed to the media, smiling and sauntering to their car. Sorry, I don’t find anything about that few moments natural. It was contrived and abusive to that child. They used her for a few moments in the media. As far as her walking, no, I wouldn’t put her down either. She’s two and there’s a lot of whackos out there; they control that part correctly in my eyes. They let her walk when it’s safe and you see that plenty in photos from afar. The bottle, I don’t agree with it now, but for different reasons than get expressed often. That’s their challenge to deal with, if it presents itself.

I believe any of these parents and certainly other hollywood parents would try and do what they could to negate the effect of the flashes, the yelling, the pap frenzy etc. All kids are different, and did it ever occur to your closed minded brain that maybe Suri shouldn’t at this time in her life be exposed to this craziness. Maybe just maybe they should wait a few week, months and then try again?

So I guess what so many of us are asking is why is playing the game with this child now? And why continue playing when she is clearly upset? We went for months without seeing a picture of Suri and now she is all over. Yet you say it is their right to do this to her and she will turn into a turnip or something if she doesn’t get to the park? Where was she the weeks and months where we haven’t seen her picture? So why now? And why can’t they chill and let her adjust?

Lincoln, hate is a very strong word. I’m 50 and in my lifetime, there are only three people I have ever relegated to the hate category and all three of those abused and used their children for their own gain. I’m talking outside of the obvious abusers.
I don’t care a rat’s butt what the Cruises do in their personal life. I don’t hate them, I don’t like them…. their job is acting and they can get on with it just as I get on with my job.
I do find their lives interesting which is why I read, but I can take it or leave it.
But, I do have an opinion on that last little snippet of video and I find it challenging. I’m not apologizing; I found their treatment of their DAUGHTER (a little human who deserves respect and nurturing) disturbing. She’s not a prop; she’s not a little adult…. she is a child. She does not have the emotional maturity to deal with all of the things that her adult parents do.
Now, they can get a babysitter on red-carpet nights, why not to go out to dinner for a couple of hours? TC had her out to the park that day as I recall; no one was insisting that she be kept under a bushel basket. But as responsible loving parents, you do have the control in how best to protect and care for your child.
I’m entitled to my opinion just as you are. I found their behaviour in that video abusive. I do believe they use Suri as a prop.
I’m going to add this. I’ve never been a big KH fan; she’s mediocre at best. However, I did think she was adorable. She was cute enough, but her smile could light up a room. When she smiled, her eyes danced and she sparkled.
That is gone. The only time she comes near it is when she’s posing on the red carpet. When she’s out with her daughter, she’s almost wooden; her eyes are dead and the smile is almost non-existant. This from the woman who used to sparkle, up to and including when Suri was an infant.
Yes, life changes. But ask yourself what is different now than a year ago. What changes someone that drastically. Even if it was effort because of the publicity a year ago; what’s different today?
If life was so joyous a year ago that she smiled and sparkled; where has that gone and why? It should be better now.
Again, I could care less what they do….. except where that little girl is concerned. She deserves better than to be used as a prop because Momma and Daddy’s egos need boosting.

I don’t doubt that this couple love their daughter. I do believe that they use her to their advantage for publicity and I do believe that that is abusive when it makes her uncomfortable to the point of crying. Perhaps they got into that car and had a revelation that it was wrong and just too stressful for her to do the night time stuff, and we won’t see it anymore.
And yes, I do believe that the night time is different to day with the lights flashing. Fireworks are much less effective in the daylight, so imagine flashbulbs at close range.

My gosh, Tom and Katie don’t introduce Suri to the world until she’s 6 months, they get terribly criticized for it. Now, they take her out and about like normal families do, they get critized for it. If he covered her head with a blanket, you would say he is whacked out or more likely, everyone would say that “something is wrong with her.” Why don’t you give this family a break. They can’t do anything right as far as you “angry” or perhaps “jealous” people are concerned. Go take your medication. I am convinced the people who hate him are those on anti-depressants who are still angry at the uneducated comments he made a few years back (Get over it already!)

I think that you are forgetting something Kennedy. Remember past the TomKat days, when Tom and Nicole were married. He was the hottest thing on this planet, the most famous actor, a huge celebrity, etc…. Yet there was very limited exposure of their two children. Very seldom were they photographed with them. Does that mean that they kept those two children ‘relegated’ to their huge mansion or secluded playground areas? Doubt it.
Just because they aren’t seen, doesn’t mean that they aren’t out in the world. A person may be famous, but the paps aren’t ‘all knowing’. They aren’t mind readers or able to tell exactly when or where a celebrity is going to be at all times.

Did Tom forget that he has TWO other children?? Why are he and Katie always away and never with Conor and Bella? I feel really bad for these kids, from what I have read, their dad wants to keep them away from their mother but it doesn’t appear he wants to spend anytime with them. I admire the way they are raised their children. All of them. Although they have adopted children with Nichole, she still is the Mom. I think we read so many trashy magazine that the only thing they do is compare and citize “who wore it best”, “Bad clothes happen to good people”, etc, etc. that we are getting used to being critical. It seems to be that unless we follow the herd we are normal. I feel terrible that an actor like Tom Cruise is villified just for coming out of his shell and being “different.” I still watch his old movies and I think he is a great actor. If I didn’t care what Bill Clinton did with his personal life in the White House, believe me, I don’t care what Tom Cruise does with his personal life. He is a great actor and has a great family.
