OlderJohn Mayer Spills Jennifer Aniston Break-Up Details
John Mayer stood up for his ex-girlfriend Jennifer Aniston as he spoke to a group of photographers after working out at Equinox Gym in New York’s SoHo neighborhood. Here’s what the 30-year-old musician, who appeared emotional, nervous and sad, had to say to TMZ:
On why he broke up with Jen: “People are different, people have different chemistry. I ended a relationship to be alone, because I don’t want to waste somebody’s time if something’s not right. It’s not about years, it’s about going out with somebody, being truthful on the way in, being truthful in the middle and being truthful on the way out.”
On his breakup being completely normal: “There’s no lying, there’s no cheating, there’s no nothing. I’m sorry that the story’s not interesting. But it’s about time that somebody stands up for that girl and I think she’s great.”
On setting the record clear about Jen: “If you guys are going to run stuff and run every lie under the sun, have somebody stand up for somebody. Have me as a man who ended a relationship stand here and write some truth. Have me stand up for somebody and write that Jennifer Aniston is the smartest, most sophisticated person I think I’ve ever met.”
On why relationships generally end: “You’re either a cheater or you breakup. And I’m not the first. I’m the second one. And that’s it. There’s no lying, there’s no bulls—, I just don’t want to be followed around New York City like an animal.”
On singing the praises of Aniston: “She’s one of the most lovely people I’ve ever met in my life and I’m going through something that’s a very personal thing and you have to give that up. You have to give everything up because you can’t have it all and it sucks.”

“Jen will never kiss and tell, but it’s she who ended the relationship,” a source close to Jen says. “(Mayer’s) childish behavior only confirms she was right to dump him. Now he’s acting like a spoiled child. Expect Jen to behave like a lady.”
Mayer first explained his version of the breakup to an OK! magazine reporter, who quickly posted online that Mayer did the dumping. “I ended a relationship to be alone, because I don’t want to waste somebody’s time if something’s not right,” Mayer told the reporter.
Yet Aniston’s pal says the something that “wasn’t right” was Mayer’s behavior toward the press during the relationship. “He has a relationship with certain paparazzi (and) bloggers,” the source said. “He tips them off. He loves the attention. Jen didn’t want to believe it was happening, but it was, and she has no tolerance for that.”
Another issue: Money. “Jen was tired of paying for everything,” said another source close to Aniston. “Cobwebs come flying out of (Mayer’s) wallet when he opens it. John liked living like a movie star when he was with her. … Jen would never say anything, but you could tell it irritated her.”
The sources close to Aniston say she isn’t going to make a statement about her relationship, despite their hunch that Mayer will continue to talk about it. “We’re talking about a guy who had a car waiting to take him home in New York, but he chose to walk so he could talk to the press (along the way). He’ll drag this out until there’s someone new,” says the source.

Was she treated unfairly by Brad? Aniston herself in her Vogue interview in 2006 said that by 2004 the marriage was basically dead. So why should Brad stay in a loveless, childless marriage?

It’s interesting. This being the fourth break-up in the last two years… but who’s counting. Three years ago she so emphatically stated how her faith in marriage remained strong, and that in five years ( 1 and a half from now) she hoped to be married with a child.
However, her choices in men seem random at best. Now, there may be a method to the madness. Being hooked up with Brad may have also been random, but also fortuitous. And being open to the possibility of a real relationship and not closing the door based on age, income-level, etc. is realistic and smart.
She has every right to take her time finding a mate. It’s difficult. Particulary so when your personal life is fodder for tabloids and media outlets. That being said, it’s becoming sad. Divorce is something that happens to millions of women across the spectrum. Which is to say that it doesn’t have to be impossible to overcome.
People seem to root for her happiness, and hope that she has a ‘happily ever after’ ending. Well, she very well may. But it doesn’t mean it will come in the form of marriage & kids. Even if she herself places a premium on that. I just wish the focus wasn’t so much on herself. The yoga mat can’t hug back.
Seriously though, she dealt with a very public divorce and the very public development of her ex’s current relationship. That’s a hard pill to swallow. For anyone. But having a focus outside of herself would seem to be beneficial.

I have never read one of these message boards before, always thought they were a bit strange - now I find I was correct.
My friend’s 14 year old daughter was sitting at her laptop laughing for such a long time, her mother and I came over to see what was so funny.

To begin, half of you can not spell simple words correctly. Obviously your time would be better spent in school and doing your homework.

Why can’t she breakup with someone and issue a statement that’s complimentary to her exes as they have done for her? Why does she feel the need (to borrow Lainey’s term) to be so low-classy? She had her friends calling John childish, yet her behavior is far from being an adult.
This is no ones fault, again siht happens, I will never believe jen does this for attention,she has moved on. I really don’t know why brad and jen broke up b/c i absolutely don’t them at all…. Seems like everyone has any angry opinion about this. I’m just glad that everything seems amicable and honest.

What Jennifer did then and what John did today are totally completely different situations. John felt the need to talk about a breakup with someone he only dated for maybe, the most 2 months? on the streets with tabloid suitors, while Jennifer had an actual sit down interview to talk about a situation with a person she was with for 7 years. In my opinion, i think it was good of her to actually say what she felt because i felt the same way. I thought it was tasteless of Brad to shoot the W magazine spread with his “co-star” weeks after the divorce. The whole 5,7 kids running around and white picket fence spread was just a slap in the face. Then, by June, we see his “co-star” months from giving birth to his child. Yah. Very Classy. She waited until she was ready to say her piece in the matter.
She said what she wanted in a classy sit down interview, not to some trashy reporters like John. Ever since then, I haven’t heard her mention Brad or his “co-star” or any of their 6 kids. So the whole Vanity Fair article is very redundant…

This is what’s in my mind too. In my opinion, John would not do this interview and so soon at that , letting the public know that he’s the one who really dumped Jen, if there was no news beforehand coming from Jen’s camp spilling lies about the reason of their failed relationship. He was maybe alarmed that ooops he’s placed in a bad light. He could have kept silent if ,whatever is left of his image, had not been put in jeopardy. This is where Jen’s camp (Jen herself, friends, publicist Huvane) miscalculated the situation. They didn’t see this coming. They thought John is the same as Brad who just kept quiet in the past about his separation with Jen despite he together with Angie were being crucified in the media through their evil machinations. With John, he didn’t take this sitting down. He thought it wise to make a move, fast. And so he did. When he did, it hurt Jen’s camp so bad that I am very certain they are now thinking and working overtime, planning what will be their next move to counteract this unexpected turn of events.
In John’s interview, to put it simply, he is like saying to the public, “I’m not the bad guy here, please.” No matter how much he tried to sugarcoat his statements by singing praises on Jen, doesn’t undermine the strong impact of his first statement on dumping her. It’s what stayed in the public minds.
Jen I think should really reflect about her life now, seriously. What she’s done to her fellowmen that she deserves one misery to another, should give her some serious thinking. If she’s reading objective blogs, reading various posts that are giving unsolicited advice, analyzing or pointing out her machinations to gain good image even in the process of she’s hurting a lot of people especially Angie & Brad (& family), and she’s really serious of changing her behavior & lifestyle, I think it would put some good common sense back to her life.

After watching “The Good Girl” and listening to John, and reading his statement….(You really should watch The Good Girl. Beautiful, haunting, thoughtful film. Jen played very smart there! There is also an “unwilling” funny touch inside. For me it is a complete film.)
1. I love John’s music. I have been loving it since a year or so. And I will continue listen to his music. Because I still think he is one of the best guitarist blues player for the moment. His voice is also okay.
2. I read a lot of things about John. I always say, this man has a stupid mouth (just like one of his songs). Sometimes, he talks too much, but thinks less. Maybe he called himself being honest, but I think he simply did not think deep when he opened his mouth. He is not what he was, let’s just say 5 years ago, so when he spoke, he should considered many ways. His words might be interpreted in different ways, and mostly, would be used against him. But I don’t have to get to know him personally, so let’s just say I don’t care so much about him.
3. Too fast? I think their relationship is too fast formed and also too fast broken. It happens in real life. People “love” each other just like straw fire. The brightest burns the fastest, they say. I mean, it’s okay. They tried, and if it doesn’t work, why force themselves? The only problem is, they are celebrities, and we love to criticize celebrities. Me, I kind of wonder what Jennifer Aniston was thinking with Mayer - I mean he does have a very public list of flings, and while he may be kind to the girls he dumps, he gets around and that’s common knowledge. I’m not surprised Jennifer Aniston might find him attractive (they kind of seem the same types) or enjoy a summer fling with him - but I don’t understand why she would follow him around on tour like a groupie for all the public to see - she knows she is constantly in the gossip rags. To Stop blaming Jen, it is amazing what a selective memory you have. You talk about Angie not caring about her dad, What about your idol who cut her mother off her life because of something that happened more than three decades ago. Jennifer Aniston’s pals were rolling their eyes over the weekend about John Mayer’s unofficial press conferences discussing the couple’s breakup.
“Jen will never kiss and tell, but it’s she who ended the relationship,” a source close to Jen says. “(Mayer’s) childish behavior only confirms she was right to dump him. Now he’s acting like a spoiled child. Expect Jen to behave like a lady.”
Mayer first explained his version of the breakup to an OK! magazine reporter, who quickly posted online that Mayer did the dumping. “I ended a relationship to be alone, because I don’t want to waste somebody’s time if something’s not right,” Mayer told the reporter.
Yet Aniston’s pal says the something that “wasn’t right” was Mayer’s behavior toward the press during the relationship. “He has a relationship with certain paparazzi (and) bloggers,” the source said. “He tips them off. He loves the attention. Jen didn’t want to believe it was happening, but it was, and she has no tolerance for that.”
Another issue: Money. “Jen was tired of paying for everything,” said another source close to Aniston. “Cobwebs come flying out of (Mayer’s) wallet when he opens it. John liked living like a movie star when he was with her. … Jen would never say anything, but you could tell it irritated her.”
The sources close to Aniston say she isn’t going to make a statement about her relationship, despite their hunch that Mayer will continue to talk about it. “We’re talking about a guy who had a car waiting to take him home in New York, but he chose to walk so he could talk to the press (along the way). He’ll drag this out until there’s someone new,” says the source.
