OlderDaniel Radcliffe Joins A Chorus Line
Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe gets a special kiss on the cheek from singer/dancer Heather Parcells after the closing night performance of A Chorus Line at The Schoenfeld Theater on Sunday in New York City.
The 19-year-old actor has been preparing for the upcoming reprisal of his role as Alan Strang in the play, Equus. The show opens on Broadway September 25, with advance screenings starting September 5. For more information on the production, visit the official website at EquusOnBroadway.com.
It’s also been recently reported that Radcliffe admitted to UK’s Daily Mail that he suffers from dyspraxia, a neurological disorder that impairs coordination
“Yes, Dan Radcliffe does have dyspraxia,” his rep said. “This is something he has never hidden. Thankfully his condition is very mild and at worst manifests itself in an inability to tie his shoelaces and bad handwriting.”

He was a sweet and adorable little boy in David Copperfield. Of course he has grown up. I think he has done a pretty good job of it, but he has lost most of his childlike charm. Still and all, he could have done a lot worse. Reported to be a very nice guy in all ways. I hope he is a big hit in NYC as he was in London. His ability to grow hair is not impressive; I think that is about all he can produce. Needs testosterone shots, perhaps. As for his dyspraxia he probably has a flunkie to tie his shoes for him and of course he doesn’t need to write very much. Just be able to sign his name for autographs.

By the way….Dan did a talk last night for NY TimesTalk and he mentioned that he regrets mentioning to a reporter recently that he has dyspraxia (I think because of all the press it has been getting lately). He said that it doesn’t affect him much and doing gymnastics since he was 11 has helped with his coordination. I don’t think he wants it mentioned anymore because he knows there are people who are suffering a lot worse than he is with the disorder. I love that he is humble.

His dispraxia must be very mild. I suspect the worst effect was when he was young it made him feel, so he has said numerous times, that he wasn’t very good at anything in school. So to remedy his low self-esteem his very bright mother got him the role of David Copperfield (or she pushed him for it) in the TV production of the novel when he was only 9 years old. He was so very very very good (best thing IMO that he has ever done) that this led to a bit part in The Tailor of Panama and then his big coup: the role of Harry Potter. The rest is history. So his disability was the root of his great success. Amazing, as he likes to say. (His vocabulary discussing his work is a bit limited, being mainly “amazing” and “incredible” and “astonishing” but one can forgive him all that since he is such a nice guy.)
If you want to see acting perfection, absolute perfection, get the DVD of David Copperfield, the version he is in, and watch. He is beyond superb. Riveting. You can’t take your eyes off him in any scene that he is in.
Daniel is much more handsome in real life. I was lucky to see him perform in Equus (during the London run) he is so good, really surprised me.
Btw, he has very white teeth, he doesn’t smoke in real life, it’s just something he had to do for the play, he hates it.
The fact he openly said he has dyspraxia, even if it’s not much, I think is good, because it can help a lot of people who also suffer it in some degree but are afraid of talking about it, afraid of what people who don’t know what it really is can think about it. So I applaud Dan for it.
