After Roseanne Barr blasted Angelina Jolie and her father Jon Voight, the Midnight Cowboy actor responded to Barr via Extra. Here is Roseanne’s blog entry in case you missed it. Jon’s response is below:
“Answer to Roseanne Barr’s Rant:
We can never be surprised at what vile evil comes from the mouth of a confessed victim of child abuse at the hands of her own parents.
Her parents responded to the accusation by going on the air and slating she is a psychopathic liar and her sister agreed.
Her defaming of our National Anthem in 1990 gave us insight into who she is and what she is capable of saying and doing.
My allegiance to Senator McCain becomes stronger with any assault that tries to deter my loyalty to him.
I can only pray that good people see her for what she is (sick of mind).

You and Roseanne must have been reading incorrect data from the same media source.
For a start, neither Brad nor Angelina gets paid 40 million dollars a film.
If they did, a very large percentage of that would go towards tax. So they certainly wouldn’t be “taking home” such a huge amount.
Secondly, their charitable donations total a lot more than 3 million a year.
Thirdly, I bet Roseanne (and many other stars) either don’t donate to charity or wouldn’t donate 3 million a year anyway.
AJ & BP do a lot of good in the world by bringing the worlds attention to charitable causes and by donating a LOT of money themselves. I don’t understand why people would make snide comments about it. I can only come to the conclusion that untimely people are deep down envious or jealous of the pair and so people let their insecurities and petty jealousies cloud their judgement.
People in glass house shouldn’t throw stones.
So just how MUCH do people bad mouthing AJ & BP donate to charity each year??? Very little, if anything, I should think.

I never, ever thought I would agree with Voight, on anything, but he’s completely right. I remember watching her E!True Hollywood story years ago, and Tom Arnold, her once husband, mentioned how she had something like 500 personalities, and 499 of them hated him. It’s widely known she’s mentally ill..
Celebrities should be role models, not bullies or taking shots at each other. Rosanne clearly did this for shock and media attention. She is receiving what she intended and most likely relishing the negative even more than the positive comments. It will be short-lived, and in a few weeks from now, Brad Pitt and Angelie Jolie will continue to live their lives as they choose, generally well respected and retaining their world celebrity profile. Rosanne will not appear in the media again until her next rant. Lastly, how much the Jolie-Pitts give to charity is their business, and the real value may and does not need to be known. Much can be done anonymously and/or through means other than cash, such as time, name etc. Many benefit from Jolie=Pitt’s generosity, and for that, I hope that many follow their lead as role models and give whatever they choose to give to charity. - just do it - give. For those who state any amount given to charity is not enough, you most likely assume that the glass is always half empty. Hope your glass one day becomes more than half full.

Good Morning All - Jaye and Aeon - my sincerest apology for not posting last night. After a day of running around and visiting unforgetable sites, then dinner where I had 2 glasses of vinho verde, I was dead tired.
Before I respond, for all of you out there, Portugal maybe a small country, but rich in culture and heritage. I was blown over by the people, the seafoods, old churches, museums and villages. The Euro dollars will go far. It’s surrounded with unbelievable beaches ! The French Riviera and Monaco while they glittered and well developed, the beaches here in Braga are magnificent, and reminiscent of God’s handiwork. What a religious experience - hearing the bells tolls from a distant and walking these magnificent beaches ! And the sky and the sea seems like one ! You almost have the feeling, that God is walking with you !
There is something mystic about Portugal - it’s no wonder in the old times, they came, they saw and they conquered. Today, Macau the finance capital of China is still under Portugal !
Imagine that !

I reject the premise that Jolie is not a political figure. By nature, Man is a political animal. Activism in any form - humanitarian, social, scientific, economic and cultural, is the ULTIMATE EXERCISE OF POLITICAL POWER.
Activism and advocacy, according to Aristotle, is the ability to recognize right from wrong;
That man is endowed with conscience to carry that burden to redress tyranny, inequity and injustice;
That man is endowed with intelligence to reason;
That man is endowed with speech to vocalize its protest and ultimately seek reform and solution.
Jolie is all that and more !
From Aristotle, to Plato to Socrates to present day activists, - Noam Chomsky of USA, and Fethullah Gulen of Turkey, the concept of political power was never intended to those who seek public office, or by virtue of political appointments. It was intended to those who seek to reform injustice to mankind. Being a politician or holding public office is INCIDENTAL.
Jolie, through her advocacy to promote justice for the refugees, children of conflict, and to seek international justice for war criminals makes her a passionate and ferocious political figure. That these causes propelled her in the public eye is only consequence of her advocacy, that too, is INCIDENTAL.
And to use your own argument - “Jolie is smart.” True - intelligence and savvy are the marks of a true politician. To quote Jolie, ” You never want to rub anybody the wrong way” . Jolie is able to navigate through the intricacies of international politics without being openly hostile. It’s called diplomacy.

I totally agree with Angelina. All we need is a short trip in our past to see the wisdom of her words.
The time in question is the war between The then Soviet Union and Afghanistan. . The U.S. was a backer of the the mujahideen forces in Afghanistan. Bin Laden was one of the many Islamics who fought in the war. He felt that they, the Islamics, were responsible for the fall of the Soviet Union. Although U.S. were not mention as a contributor of the victory Bin Laden said the collapse of the Soviet union made the U.S. more haughty and arrogant.
The damage to the Afghani people was that 1 million of them were killed, 5 million fled to Iran and Pakistan; about 1/3 of the pre- war population. 2 million were displaced within the country. In the 80’s one out of every 2 refugees in the world were Afghani. Also 1.5 million of the engaged in the war were disabled. 3 million non-combatants were maimed or wounded. Many children were injured and killed by land mines. Surviving children were malnourished with malnutrition increasing with age.
One of the most damning things for the U.S. is once the Soviets left that country in shambles, the U.S. were no longer interested in helping Afghanistan. This is not my assumption, this is documented. After the Soviets left there was a huge increase in civil wars. The people born after the Soviet invasion know nothing else.
The U.S. helped to defeat the Soviet Union and then left the injured, the displaced of Afghanistan without hope. Many Americans are hoping that they have learned a lesson from that war. if you leave people without hope they become desperate. Desperation has a tendency to spread. People turned to groups like the Taliban because they offered them hope. The fall out from that desperation became and is still a National Crisis for the U.S. Those in power can claim that they didn’t see it coming after the Soviet-Afghan war, but not with Iraq. History should be a lesson.

I see your point with regard to Political in the general sense. It’s has a BROAD meaning. Anyone who influences group opinions can be considered a politician. Even Mother Theresa while she was alive. However she hardly thought of herself as a political figure. I do not think from hearing Jolie talk that SHE considers herself as political either. She certainly isn’t in the least interested in obtaining an office, she just wants to receive aid and support for her Humanitarian endeavors.
In general terms any of us can be seen as political or as a politician in certain circumstances. My main point was and still is that she has no obligation to state her preference for President whether people see her as political or not. No one is demanding that everyone in congress or who is speaking out for their causes name their choice. No one is demanding Bill Gates, Warren Buff or Bono make their presidential choices known. People may WANT to know, but they have no inherent RIGHT to know. I don’t think Angelina’s position with the UNHCR comes with an attachment that makes that mandatory. Nor do I think Jolie gave up the right to remain private in this situation. If SHE chooses to divulge that information, that’s her business as well.

We are still being pounded by heavy rain & wind gust at this moment, one fatality in our area. Three people vacationing decided to fight the mother nature & went surfing, 2 came out but the other one was not so lucky. My heart goes out to the family of the victim. Mother nature is not something to take it as a joke, you will never know what will happen if you venture out to the sea with high wind & waves.
Nothing is new. One more week before the Venice Film Festival, we will see Brad Pitt on the red carpet, hopefully, Angie can go with him. A day to be away from the children will not be bad specially when the in laws are there to watch the kids. I am still hoping Angie will walk the red carpet with Brad. I will watch Burn After Reading, the trailer looks awesome.

I hope Angelina goes , but it may be too soon after the birth of the twins. She may not have enough breast milk stored to be away from the children for more than a day. Maybe the twins won’t accept a bottle even if it is their mommy’s milk. Maybe Brad and Angelina don’t feel comfortable yet leaving their six children even for one day at the same time.
Maybe, you are right tabitha but I am still hopeful. Angie may also train the twins drinking milk from the bottle. Fay is till here moving so slow.
