OlderZac Efron Is Mad For Plaid
Zac Efron holds a pair of drumsticks in this new movie still from the upcoming film Me and Orson Welles. Here’s a synopsis of the story:
“The story of a whirlwind week in 1937 NYC when young aspiring actor Richard Samuels (Efron) is thrown into the middle of Orson Welles’ Mercury Theatre Company on the eve of the opening of Welles’ historic staging of Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar. During this week, Richard will find romance with a worldly older woman (Sonja Jones, played by Claire Danes), become immersed in a creative experience few are afforded, and learn the downside of crossing the imperious, brilliant Welles (Christian McKay). Richard is about to grow up fast.”
The movie’s first full screening will be at the 2008 Toronto International Film Festival, running from September 4–13, 2008.

Well, this movie is certainly a departure from the rest of Zac’s movies and it should put him in good standing for more serious roles. Am looking forward to it. Reminds me of Brad Pit who first got recognised for his pretty boy looks and hot bod in Thelma and Louise and John Travolta for his moves and looks in Saturday night fever. Look at them today. Am sure Zac is heading that a way too. Way to go, Zac.

I’m sure he’ll be going up to Toronto for this festival to help promote the movie. Yeah, the book was a great read…finished it in a day and a half…can’t wait to see the movie and how it’s been edited and recreated…hopefully not too much. Ooooh, EXCITED!!!CAN’T WAIT!!!
I agree with those of you that say this is a step in the right direction to bring about the change he’s seeking in his acting career…it would be nice if it’s an R rating, that way there could be a better chance more people will see the film and get it a fair critique.

I think this Movie is rated R because Somebody sayed to me that Zac Efron and Claire Dane’s have a Sexsence in the Movie don’t know if it is true or not but the could be a rumor. I hope that this movie is not rated R becasue then the teenager can’t see it. Zac is 20 years old and can make movies that have sexsences in them. I can’t wait to see this moive.

he was a fine actor in derby stallion and miracle run so i’moptimistic that zac will do well in this movie…he surely has to prove himslef as an adult actor and this is the movie to show a wider demographic that he can really act…

I dunno about the R-rated, however, I do know that Zac have said that he doesn’t really want to do sex scenes and that he wants to keep the sorta image he got through HSM among others, and maybe also it is because he does have a lot of younger fans, I don’t really remeber. However, it is possible that there might be hinted though, maybe by seeing a door close or maybe like a morning after thing, that’s not something new and it could work, I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.
Sounds like one of those movies no one will care to see unless you’re an Efron groupie. So no report about his girlfriend lately……..I guess it’s because she stinks and nobody is going to her concerts. Poor Vanessa, may have to give up her lavish new home if the lawsuits keep coming.

my thought exactly..
i really don’t think the movie will be rated R b/c the content just doesn’t call for it. there is no “sex scene,” within the novel, hence the “quadruple space,” concept :lol:
i don’t think the script would include a true sex scene as it doesn’t really fit with the story. plus quadruple space actually had a fairly significant role within this story :lmao: and to mess with that just wouldn’t be good creatively, or justified. now of course that’s just my opinion!

Richard Linklater has a reputation for sticking closely to the script. Now whether or not the script adhered to the book, we don’t know. Either way, a movie about Orson Welles and the people who dealt with him would have to be interesting.
Well… at least it seems wayy different than those [i]navets[/i] of High School Musical.
I just hope that he’ll actually be good in this movie, and not making another Katie Holmes-like in Batman Begins.

First off I totally reject the idea that a movie’s rating has anything to do with its quality,. How good a movie is based solely on its content and nothimg more.
Also one sex scene is not likely to lead a “R” rating. “Iron Man” foexample had one very brief sex scene and it was rated PG-13. Of course it would depend on how explicit the scene is. But according to people who have read the book on which “Me and Orson Welles” is based, the scene takes place behind closed doors and is suggested and not shown. Since director Richard Linklater is known for adhering to the scripts I’m pretty sure that will be the case with the movie.
I have ti commend the casting director in casting Christian McKay who is almost a dead-ringer for a young Orson Welles.

Outside the Mercury Theater. The scene is the one in which they are lighting the marquee, with a man on the ladder. They’re going to have a drumroll as the lights go on:

“This is the best drumroll the Mercury Theater can come up with?” asked the British gentleman.
“It’s the best we can do with a nonunion drummer. Comes the revolution—”
“Strike! Strike!”
“All ready up here!” called the little man on the ladder. He had climbed into the third-floor window. “Later I’ll wire you a switch. Now I’ll just plug it in.”
“Will someone please get Orson!”
[Someone goes to get Orson]
“I’m going to plug it in,” said the little man in the window.
“Wait! Wait!”
Richard: They were still fumbling with the drumroll—and with a kind of crazy boldness and a sense of What the hell do I have to lose? I said to the curly-haired guy, “Give me the sticks. I’ll do it.”
“What?”
Richard: “I said I’ll play you a drumroll.”
“Oh, yeah? And who are you?”
Richard: “I’m Gene Krupa. Who are you?” (Note: Gene Krupa was an influential American jazz and big band drummer, known for his highly energetic and flamboyant style.)
” ‘Truly, my name is Cinna. I’m Cinna the poet.’ ” (Note: : Cinna is a poet of the late Roman Republic whom Shakespeare used in Julius Caesar.)
[They recite lines from Julius Caesar here about Cinna the poet.]
The little man at the third-floor window called out: “I’m going to plug it in.”
Richard: I sizzled into a killer drumroll on the snare. The Westfield High School marching band had never heard one better. Possibly all of America had never heard one better. The drumroll alone got me a hand from the crowd.
“Swell!” the curly-haired guy said. He wagged his forefinger and started truckin’. “Peel the Big Apple, kid!” (Note: Truckin’ is a dance with jerky, rhythmic motion which combines a bend of the body, a tightening of the hand muscles and a slight strut with the legs. Peel the Big Apple is also a dance.)
* * * *
The double doors of the theater entrance flew back, and a young man emerged swearing loudly in an astonishingly deep voice. “G-o-d-d-a-m-n-sons-of-*******! Is ever single person in this show against me? Is this a goddamn conspiracy to wreck my show?”
It was Orson Welles.
