A total of 2.6 million copies. That’s how many newsstand issues of People with the exclusive photos of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s newborn twins, Knox Leon and Vivienne Marcheline, have sold, according to sources close to the magazine, citing early sales estimates for the issue. People and Hello reportedly snatched up the exclusive baby photos for a wallet-busting $14 million, the cost split between the two in some manner. People scored the domestic rights for the images; Hello bought the international ones.

The issue is the biggest seller in seven years, and is the fourth highest newsstand seller in the magazine’s 35-year history, behind the Sept. 11 issue (4.1 million single copies), the issue covering Princess Diana’s death (3 million) and the one covering the death of John F. Kennedy Jr. (2.8 million). The June 19, 2006 issue with the exclusive baby pictures of Brad and Angelina’s first daughter, Shiloh, moved 2.2 million newsstand copies (perhaps the extra Pitt-Jolie baby provided a bigger draw this time).]

The baby photos also helped People extend its online reach to record levels. People.com recorded a record 6 million unique visitors for the first 24 hours the cover went online. Comparatively, people.com usually averages around 8.8 million uniques a month, according to figures from Comscore Media Metrix. What will happen if Pitt and Jolie have triplets?

The magazine selling well proves nothing except that there are way too many lifeless people who are utterly obsessed with people that they don’t even know. “Hatfields and McCoys,” a Warner Bros. drama about the famous feud between the neighboring farmers that began when a Hatfield under Confederate colors killed a McCoy who was fighting for the Union army. Pitt and Grey want “The Insider” team of screenwriter Eric Roth and director Michael Mann to bring it to the screen. Roth’s set to write the script, and Mann’s in discussions to direct.

“Peace Like a River.” Kathy McWorter has adapted the Leif Enger novel about a single father who takes his children on the road to search for their fugitive brother. Pitt and Grey are producing with David Brown and Kit Golden.

“Zora,” the Warner Bros. based true story of a woman who is considered a superwoman because of her vast personal accomplishments but finds her true strength when faced with personal crisis. Project started as an Ira Glass report on NPR’s “This American Life.”
“Zora,” at age 6, wrote a list of goals she wanted to achieve by 31, and met every one of them by 21, including becoming a bounty hunter.”

“Katharine Fugate,” a New Line-based tearjerker about a 10-year old boy who tracks down his best friend’s birth mother as his pal’s dying wish. Plan B is producing the project with Wayne Rice and Mike Karz.

“Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time.” Steve Kloves (the “Harry Potter” pics) has adapted and will direct Mark Haddon’s novel about an autistic 15-year-old who uses the sleuthing methods of his idol, Sherlock Holmes, to uncover the killer of a neighbor’s dog. Plan B’s producing with David Heyman’s Heyday Films.

Miguel Arteta will direct and exec produce “Book of Joe,” an adaptation of the upcoming Jonathan Tropper novel “Bush Falls.” Doug Wright is scripting the story of a man who grows up an outcast in a Connecticut town, then moves to Gotham and gains fame as a writer by lampooning his hometown. He’s got much to answer for when he returns home to care for his ailing father. Matthew Greenfield is also exec producer.

Screenwriter Bill Witliff (”Lonesome Dove”) has been hired to adapt “My Losing Season,” the Pat Conroy coming-of-age memoir about his senior season as point guard for the Citadel basketball team in 1966-67. It is a bittersweet story as the youth must come to grips with saying goodbye to the sport that provided refuge from his bullying fighter pilot father. Plan B’s producing with Gaylord Entertainment.

Pulitzer Prize-winning “Top Dog/Underdog” playwright Suzan Lori Parks has been set to script “Act V,” a fact-based drama about a female director who works with maximum security prisoners to stage act five of “Hamlet.” Like “Zora,” the project was inspired by a report by NPR’s Ira Glass.

Plan B is teamed with Universal and Nicolas Cage’s Saturn Films on “Lou Zamperini,” a memoir about the famed Olympian and his harrowing experience of being captured by the Japanese and singled out for abuse by a camp commander. The long-in-development pic has Antoine Fuqua attached to direct and Cage to star. Robert Schenkkan and Neil Tolkin wrote it.

Melisssa , please use your brain. People only paid $7million. Hello Mag paid the other $7milion and probably made that back, hand over fist, as they had the rights to “the rest of then world”. And the magazines did not pay it to the Pitts. (this money will not show in the Pitts’ annual income) The mags made a donation each to the Jolie-Pitt Foundation, which means they got a hefty tax write-off.

The mags also made tons of money for online advertising and advertising in the magazine, which probably tripled. Plus, it was never about recouping money, this was all about prestige and positioning in the marketplace, for the mags.

Clooney and Pitt will host a fund raising dinner in Venice on August 26, during the city’s Film Festival, with guests from the worlds of entertainment, politics and culture expected to attend and show their support.

Jamie Foxx will play Sanders, who was one of two black police detectives who led the team that cracked the case. Sanders went on to become chief of police.
Matt Carnahan (”The Kingdom”) is adapting for the bigscreen.
Plan B’s Brad Pitt and Dede Gardner will produce alongside Foxx and Jaime Rucker King. Jeremy Kleiner, Marcus King and Shelby Stone will exec produce.

Paramount Pictures and Brad Pitt’s Plan B have acquired “Miki Falls,” a four-volume manga series created by Mark Crilley.
Story chronicles the final year of high school for Miki Yoshida, the series’ protag who tries to befriend handsome new student Hiro Sakurai but is met with resistance. Stubborn Miki, however, refuses to take no for an answer, which leads to a surprising revelation about the secretive young man.
TV scribe Sera Gamble has been tapped to adapt.

Paramount Developing “The Year of Living Biblically: One Man’s Humble Quest to Obey the Bible As Literally As Possible,” with Plan B.

OK, dumb question, because a) Of course, you would, and b) You’re not Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, so you’ll never have that option.

Women’s Wear Daily reports that the People magazine featuring Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s new twosome, Vivienne and Knox, was the fourth highest newsstand seller in the magazine’s history. The issue sold a reported 2.6 million copies on the newsstand (in addition to the 2.3 million subscriber copies), People’s highest total in seven years.

The only issues to top the twins in the magazine’s 35-year history were the one after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks (4.1 million single copies), Princess Diana’s death (3 million) and John F. Kennedy Jr.’s death (2.8 million). Vivienne and Knox thus are responsible for People’s all-time bestselling happy issue.

People’s average weekly newsstand sales are 1.5 million.

People and the British Hello! paid Jolie and Pitt a reported $14 million for the baby pix (no one knows how the purchase price was divvied up). The celeb couple said they plan to use the money to help troubled children around the world—a noble intention that Pop Machine nonetheless questioned on the grounds that maybe baby pictures shouldn’t be up for auction no matter the price.

People presumably isn’t complaining about its investment. The magazine raised its cover price by 50 cents to $4.49 for this “special issue” and also reported 6 million unique visitors to its Web site in the 24 hours after the cover went online.

The 2006 People issue featuring Jolie and Pitt’s first biological daughter, Shiloh, sold 2.2 million newsstand copies. This won’t be the last time that the big sister is overshadowed by her cute little sibs.

I’m picturing the teen arguments now:

The issue featuring babies Knox and Vivienne, which is the highest selling issue in the past seven years, sold slightly more than People’s exclusive cover of Brad and Angelina’s daughter Shiloh in 2006, which sold 2.2 million copies.

The only People issues that sold more on newsstands were on the topics of September 11th, Princess Diana’s death and the death of John F. Kennedy Jr.

The upthread talk of Angie and her fans reminded me of a post I read on Tribe years ago about two big male Angie fans in Canada. One of the fans himself posted the story. They had camped out near where she was staying hoping to see her. Not sure when it was - could have been when she was in Canada with Brad while he was shooting Jesse James or maybe the story was about an earlier incident when she was there shooting one of her movies. But it wasn’t in a city, it was out in the country. So not sure when or where. I read it quite a long time ago.

It seems that Angie heard about their camping out and in the middle of the night she walked down to their camp site (not sure if she was alone or with one bodyguard - but it wasn’t Brad). They, of course, were completely psyched and she brought them hot coffee, stayed for about a half hour, and sat and drank coffee and talked with them. Though I’ve been a fan of her work since I saw her in George Wallace and liked what I had read about her at the time I wasn’t very up on her then. But that story made me appreciate how respectful to her fans she was and how kind that was to reward those guys with a meaningful encounter. Very down to earth and considerate of others.

I think she was already pregnant by the time the Beowulf premeire happened. I think they knew she was pregnant by then or at least suspected it. I think she got pregnant sometime in mid to late Oct.

Oh yeah I was part of that 2.6 million copies. I was so happy to recieve my copy.

Brangelina is the hottest couple of all time. Their children are the most gorgeous ever. I am so glad the twins cover did very well.

I’ve rarely seen the effusive love the jp’s have for each other and all their children. It radiates from their faces. Proves things do work out for you in life when you have true good will and a sizable dose of humility despite your obvious beauty, talent and soul.

Vicki she is a junior and thanks for asking. Eventhough the doctors assured us everything would be fine , she had a limp for along time. Thank god she is good as new now…but no more competitive gym. for her :-)

They had a very happy marriage and she missed him terribly and she still misses him at times, but she’s no longer grieving for him. Her neighbors and her family have been a big support to her, and she’s joined the senior citizen’s center in her co-op and is leading a very active life at the age of 91. With your family’s support, your mom will be okay too.

My mama was in 1 *church group* counseling ect.,
just sharing I think 1 of the hardest things after my dad passed was that my mother had time 2 just sit & reflect on my sister/brothers death. We had many* many convos about them. She felt enormous guilt. Of course because she was their mom. But her grieving involved enormous guilt of what ifs/why & she grouped the 3 deaths 2gether ect., it was slow but she did eventually in the best way she could move 4ward.

neleh, my mom is still pretty young, she is only 65 and she told me the other day that she is scared that she will live to be in her 80’s like her mom did. i told her that would be great and she didn’t agree. i know it is still so new and raw. i know she will be ok, i just hate to see her in so much pain. i understand why, she says she lost her other half. i can’t imagine your mom’s grief in the loss of your dad and two of her children. i am so glad she has managed to move forward. i will remember her in my prayers. hugs to you and i thank you for your support and care.

Of course there is no crowd around aniston, because she is so insignificant, it’s easy for her to get lost in a crowd. I’ve stated this before…. in NYC where I work, i pass numerous women everyday who look like X, and even better. Angie on the other hand, willause a riot, because she is an original and unique. I only got 5/10. I never watched Friends so I had no idea Tate Donovan had done the show. I didn’t know VV supposedly said “You can’t be serious!” when he heards X was dating The Urinator. I had no idea what that commerical was with PMBP. Didn’t know Duritz claimed he never bagged X…but admitted to doing Courtney “Cuckoo” Love….and one other one that I missed but can’t remember and really don’t care to go back and look to see what it was. Basically X is a loser…but we knew that.

I just watched that extended trailer, Brad is so f**king funny. Biden is a good choice. I don’t think Obama/Hillary ticket is a good match - too much bad blood. Conversely, Hillary/Obama would have been a sure democratic ticket. Biden is well received in Europe. It may help Obama as far as foreign policy, by a small margin.

Speaking of Obama - I don’t doubt that Obama is a good man. Very intellectual as well. It comes from his Muslim heritage. But, ‘am deeply dismayed he disavowed his heritage as a Muslim. Barack Hussein Obama - no doubt is of Muslim heritage. There are 1.6 billion Muslim all over the world. They are the most marginalized population, and yet history will tell you that they are the most intellectual. Fethullah Gullen ranked no 1, a Muslim religious leader and peacemaker from Turkey. In fact, the top 10 of the leading 20 are all Muslim thinkers from countries with dominant Muslim pollutions. Despite rallies from Prof Gulen’s sympathizers [myself included] and many dignitaries, Bush-Cheney has rejected his application for a Visa to remain in the USA. Albeit Court ruling in favor of the good Professor, Bush-Cheney filed to vacate the ruling, and filed yet another opposition. It’s been a 8-10 years legal fight for this beloved Professor.

Obama should be proud of his Muslim heritage, disavowing for the sake of political expediency, pandering to the Right, and fostering Muslim hatred and phobia, in my view, is unforgivable. He just missed the opportunity to build bridges between Christians and non-Christians nations, regretfully destroyed by an unwanted war by the Bush-Cheney regime. Obama just made the worst mistake of any foreign policy decision.

Biden hopefully will be able to make amend of Obama’s tragic mistake, but it may be too late.

On one of Obama’s rally, Muslim women attending his rally were forcibly removed from the front seats, and were banished elsewhere where they were unseen ! Obama just didn’t want to be seen with any Muslim voters for fear of being associated with Muslim. For that alone, I can not in good conscience, vote for Obama. Throwing the second largest population of the world under the bus, is pandering of the worst kind.

One thing I’ve noticed about Hillary’s supporters is they continually overestimate her appeal. She’s the senator from my home state and she’s been a good one. But I’m able to see past my state borders far enough to recognize that there are a bajillion voters outside of New York State who absolutely hate her, for whatever irrational reason, and would vote for a ruptured donkey before they would vote for Hillary.

This country can handle only so much change at once, know what I’m saying? A black man running for president — that’s radical. A black man with a woman as his running mate — for a lot of people, that’s the Twilight Zone. Obama needed a safe white guy to balance the ticket. That’s why I think he made a smart choice.

Great news, thanks Jared for the new thread. :) When People paid 6 million dollars for the rights to J. Lopez and M. Anthony’s twins pictures, I remember wondering how much magazines would pay for rights to JP twins pics if Angie was having twins, and no one knew she was at the time. I thought 10 million would be it, and here are Brad and Angie commanding 14 million dollars, with People making back the money they paid almost twice over, and their investment going entirely to charity to benefit people who need it. Way to go Brad and Angelina! :) That’s great news!
