OlderBrangelina Twins Sell Big!
This just in from Women’s Wear Daily! Not surprisingly, the exclusive photos of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s newborn twins, Knox Leon and Vivienne Marcheline, sold big. How big? 2.6 million copies big!
According to the trade journal, “The issue is the biggest seller in seven years, and is the fourth highest newsstand seller in the magazine’s 35-year history, behind the Sept. 11 issue (4.1 million single copies), the issue covering Princess Diana’s death (3 million) and the one covering the death of John F. Kennedy Jr. (2.8 million). The June 19, 2006 issue with the exclusive baby pictures of Brad and Angelina’s first daughter, Shiloh, moved 2.2 million newsstand copies (perhaps the extra Pitt-Jolie baby provided a bigger draw this time).”

Yeah, I had read (a couple of weeks ago I think) that even though the magazine did sell well….it fell well short of what was projected….that the magazines did not get the return on their investment…not even close. Why isn’t JJ mentioning that part?

Thanks, Jared. Love that the Peeps mag has made their money back when everybody else was expecting a loss in revenue but a rise in prestige. Now they get both. Brangelina rules and they will not forget it as easily. Who knows, with the ads and continued sales, they may even see profit?

I bought Hello mag but would love the People mag as well.Wish I lived in the US.They increased the price by $0.50 and people still bought the copy and its still selling very well.When do we get the final numbers.
l Miss Angelina can’t believe we haven’t seen her for 3 months.She said she’ll go away for a couple of months and she staying true to her words.Guess we’ll see her the beginning of October.
The magazine selling well proves nothing except that there are way too many lifeless people who are utterly obsessed with people that they don’t even know. Seriously, who gives a **** about Brangelina’s invitro babies? People have babies everyday and just because these two freaks spawned them, it makes them so special that 2.6 million magazines are sold?!

It was the prestige they were after as the mag to the stars. Go ahead and calculate all you want but Peeps will bow down to Brad and Angie as one of the best sellers (even with the price increase) with their progenies. Who else can top them right now? What baby pic sold the most?

@ 23:It did sell, but People did not get the return on their investment, they did not recoup the 14 million dollars paid, this magazine was on the shelf two days early and stayed on the shelf for three weeks, so actually this was not as much of a success as the folks at People were hoping for.

Where do you live? In my country, the magazines are already sold out the very first day of release. And, unfortunately for me, I still haven’t got my own copy/copies. They had to reorder in order to supply the demand. Sad, sad, sad.
This is great. More power to Jolie-Pitts. People Magazine and Hello magazine split $14 Million. People magazine actually paid $7 Million and sold 2.6 million copies which is total $11.7 million (2.6m x 4.50/copy). People magazine got their money back already.

Melissa, JJ isn’t saying that because it’s not true!! People didn’t project more than what it got. And the return on investment — they said way back during the bidding wars that NO ONE gets back dollar for dollar, but the publicity and bragging rights is advertising money well worth spending.
Getting almost as many people to come to the site in 24 hours as come in a month?!?! Yeah, that’s return on investment, baby!!!

#26, I doubt anybody is hating on Brangelina, it seems like that person is talking about the over obsessed fans, not Brad and Angie themselves. You are obviously one these obsessed people. So by all means, put down your copy of Catcher and the Rye, crawl out of the basement and realize that the world is bigger than Brangelina. If you do that, you may actually meet a real person, instead of your fellow cyber internet Brangelina stalkers.
Those are great numbers…and the mag’s still on newsstands through Aug 25. So everybody run out and buy another 10 copies!
