Why is it that people always complain about the kids’ hair, of all things?? Is it really that important?
And Bob, I don’t know where the heck you live, but I’ve never heard of a child being suspended for his/her hair.

The premiere of the Coen brothers’ “Burn After Reading” is set Wednesday to inaugurate the festival, which continues until Sept. 6. Billed as a dark comedy about two fitness trainers at a Washington gym who accidentally find themselves in possession of the explosive memoirs of a former CIA agent, the movie has a cast that includes George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Frances McDormand, John Malkovich and Tilda Swinton, promising a high star quotient on the opening night.
On the eve of the festival, Venice’s water-taxi drivers were threatening to go on strike for the duration of the event. The city’s deputy mayor, Michele Vianello, at first responded in “make-my-day” mode, telling them to go right ahead, a sentiment shared by most of Venice’s inhabitants, the vast majority of whom use public water buses and would only consider taking one of these astronomically expensive private conveyances for weddings, funerals, or if they won the lottery. Vianello subsequently declared the strike illegal, but if it goes ahead, ordinary festivalgoers may find themselves traveling with the stars (the Lido can only be reached by boat).

absurdités de l’existence : being a fake your whole life and pretending to be a humanitarian while you promote violence in your films Brad. You tattoos are irrelevant, pretentious and ugly. What a silly vain life you live in your rich bubble of detachment….. everything you ever wanted simply cut you off from reality, more and more, strangled by your bloated, promoted vanity….using self promotional humanitarianism as new way to appear smug and superior. FLICK OFF.

Venice gala starts awards season
By Neil Smith
Entertainment reporter, BBC News
The 65th Venice International Film Festival begins this week with a gala screening of Burn After Reading, the new comedy from the Oscar-winning Coen brothers.
George Clooney in Burn After Reading
Burn After Reading is Clooney’s third film with the Coen brothers
It remains to be seen, however, if this high-profile event will fulfil its traditional function as curtain-raiser to next year’s awards season.
Last year’s programme included a number of features - among them Atonement, Michael Clayton and The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford - that would go on to be shortlisted for a slew of film prizes.
This year, though, there are fewer obvious candidates for future glory - a consequence, perhaps, of the US writers’ strike and its impact on Hollywood film production.
Of the five American films up for the Golden Lion, the festival’s main award, The Burning Plain seems to have the most going for it.
Directed by Guillermo Arriaga, the Oscar-nominated writer of 2006’s Babel, the drama sees previous Oscar winners Kim Basinger and Charlize Theron play mother and daughter.
