NEW ORLEANS — Hurricane Gustav weakened to a tropical depression Tuesday but Louisiana authorities urged the nearly 2 million residents who fled the Gulf Coast ahead of the storm to wait a few days before returning home.

Authorities in New Orleans and the surrounding parishes pleaded with residents to give them a chance to clear the streets, assess damage and get power restored before they come home.

Graphic novelist Mark Millar recently chatted with Newsarama about Universal Pictures’ plans for Wanted 2 and even a Wanted 3.

Wanted was based on Millar’s explosive graphic novel series and directed by Timur Bekmambetov, and stars James McAvoy, Morgan Freeman, Terence Stamp, Thomas Kretschmann, Common and Angelina Jolie. It has earned nearly $260 million worldwide since it opened in theaters June 27, 2008.

Millar’s involvement is very minimal, but here is what he had to say:

“What I will be doing is providing them with a very small amount of stuff for a story, and that will be used as a basic story that they can build from. It will be a small outline that can possibly be picked apart and not used - but it will be something exclusively for the second film, and no one will ever really see it.”

Given that the film version of the story differs from the comic book version in a number of ways (some quite substantial) Millar’s outline will be set in the film’s continuity, but will reach back to the comics. “It will be some of the stuff that we didn’t utilize from the first book for the movie - like chapters three and four - there will be some stuff from that, so in the loosest sense it will be based on the book, but only very little,” Millar said. “The nice thing about owning it and creator-owned properties is that JG and I will still be producers on the thing, and will still obviously get paid for the rights.”

Millar acknowledged that he too had heard that Terence Stamp has said his character of Pekwarsky would be coming back for the sequel, and reportedly play a much larger role. Also, Wanted screenwriters Derek Haas and Michael Brandt have been at work on the screenplay for the sequel for some time.

TELLURIDE, Colo. — Directors David Fincher and Danny Boyle came to the Telluride Film Festival with very different motivations for their fundamentally dissimilar films. But both will leave the festival having accomplished pretty much exactly what they needed to do.

Fincher, the director of “Fight Club,” “The Game” and “Se7en,” appeared at the 35th annual film festival to receive an opening-night career tribute award. In addition to his 167-minute director’s cut of last year’s “Zodiac,” the filmmaker brought with him about 20 minutes of footage from “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button,” the decades-in-development reworking of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s short story about the reverse aging of a boy born as an old man.

The brief glimpses of Fincher’s Christmas Day release established a couple of critical facts about “Benjamin Button.”

I’m somewhat in the same field and many of us in Toronto kind of joke around a bit about Holmes but no doubt about it he is the real deal. I think he must have a strong female fan base too. I watched one of his shows where he was redoing a roof addition and I had to laugh because these college aged women kept hanging within camera range of Mike and his crew. Does anyone get Holmes on Homes in the states?

I saw a young African American woman this morning that made me think of Z’s hair controversy, and lo and behold, the issue pops up yet again. This woman was fashionably and beautifully dressed (trust me, true fashion is a rare thing in DC) and had let her hair go naturally like Z’s. She looked stunning. I am not African-Americam and I am sure that there are a lot of culural issues that I am oblivious to, but as a child of the 60’s, I think natural is beautiful. Z is a beauty and I feel her hair suits her free, spontaneous personality. Her parents know her best and know what hair style suits her personality. I wear my hair in short spikes, and I know that doesn’t suit many government hacks in DC. However, it is me and I am sure Z’s parents know best what suits her. Trust them. They adore her.

Are the Jolie-Pitt Too Many Kids Too Quickly Police in the house today? I just read on Yahoo that Tiger and his wife are having another baby - this winter! Their daughter just turned 1 in June! so that means the Mrs. was knocked up again when Sam Alexis was around 9 months old. I remember riding a bus once and I noticed a young girl was being dramatic and large with her playing, not loud or annoying, but her parents who to my eyes seemed out of place white trash berated her loudly to behave herself. But you could tell what they were really angry about was that their good natured daughter was drawing attention to them selves and because they felt oppressed they passed it on to a happy child. I found it offensive and oppressive MUCH LIKE I FIND YOUR OPINIONS TO BE, YOU AND OTHERS LIKE YOU WHO MAKE SUCH STUPID AND OPPRESSIVE STATEMENTS. No doubt you’re compensating also.

#3) Referring to their time spent in the museum together: Brad has taken Shiloh to the museum before…back in NYC; remember?
Besides, it is just a fact that because Z is a little older than Shi–they can take her to more places and for longer (this is including Madd & Pax also)….considering Shi probably takes more and longer naps than her older siblings.
#4) They realize that they each need to spend time with each of the kids individually (like Jared, himself said)…so I’m sure we’ll see Shi soon.

If you’re a true fan, you will trust Brad and Angelina as parents, and realize they know what they are doing….and I believe you are a true fan ;)

Why in the world is anyone taking those razzie noms seriously? First of all that razzie gang always has to add a big name to their made up nomination list so they can get lots of hits and publicity. They love adding Jolie to their lists because she brings in viewers to their site. Why else would they add an Oscar and multi-award winning actress to their nomination lists?

And why hasn’t she ever won a razzie? Because they never take her nominations seriously. They are just for show. Jolie has never given a bad performance. For every movie listed as so-so or bad, Jolie is usually the best thing in it. There were any number of critics who felt that Jolie was the best thing about Alexander.

And where does anyone think that Tomb Raider has ever been razzie bad? The Tomb Raider movies were fine for the fun movies they were and nobody could have done the justice Jolie did as the video girl come to life.

While she is having twins, relaxing in France and getting hugs and kisses from her kids and Brad, Universal is saying she is the reason Wanted did so well, Another production company is changing a script they offered Tom Cruise so she could to star in it and another production company -Paramount pictures has purchased the rights to a book for Angelina to star in. Lionsgate head said the Altlas Shugged would not even be considered it not for Angelina.

Goodness life would be boring if everyone was the same (Heck look at how many rom com actresses that are around now. They are interchangeable). Ms Jolie is unique and talented. I guess you must have missed the Halle Berry interview with Oprah where she discussed how many times she and Gabriel had to do “it” while conceiving. Or the one where one where she told of the abusive ex-boyfriend who hit her so hard, she lost 80% of the hearing in one of her ears.
The only reason reason Angie is overexposed is because the tabs and blogs pick apart every minutiae of her interviews and blow them up to create articles and generate hits and sales.

David Fincher, Danny Boyle accomplish their missions

Fincher, the director of “Fight Club,” “The Game” and “Se7en,” appeared at the 35th annual film festival to receive an opening-night career tribute award. In addition to his 167-minute director’s cut of last year’s “Zodiac,” the filmmaker brought with him about 20 minutes of footage from “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button,” the decades-in-development reworking of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s short story about the reverse aging of a boy born as an old man.

The brief glimpses of Fincher’s Christmas Day release established a couple of critical facts about “Benjamin Button.”

First, the collection of scenes made clear that the director and screenwriter Eric Roth have used Fitzgerald’s story as more foundation than blueprint; the many departures from the original story are apparent in the period movie’s opening scenes, when Button is born as an infant with a senior’s face, not as a fully grown old man from tip to toe. Second, Fincher was able to show that the technology used to insert “Benjamin Button” star Brad Pitt’s face onto the torsos of the stand-ins who play the title character at widely different ages is both invisible and effective: Although the body may not be Pitt’s, every small facial expression is.

Finally, audiences saw in several overtly emotional clips a side of Fincher that hasn’t been clearly obvious in his early work: heart.

“It’s probably the most romantic movie I’ve ever been offered,” the director said during a rare Telluride downpour. “So, yes, it’s the most romantic movie I’ve ever made.”

Fincher also wants moviegoers to realize that he does not see Fitzgerald’s story as an endorsement of the line attributed to playwright George Bernard Shaw that “youth is wasted on the young,” that it’s a tragedy to have so little life experience when your body is willing, your attitude hopeful.

“A lot of people come away thinking that,” the 46-year-old Fincher said. “But I see it the opposite way — that youth is never wasted on the young.”

A year ago, the award-season impetus for Daniel Day-Lewis began at Telluride, when in a similar tribute audiences saw early footage from the actor’s Oscar-winning ” There Will Be Blood.” Fincher said there’s no such intention behind screening the footage of “Benjamin Button.”

“It’s not about selling the movie — it’s a treat, an appetizer,” he said. “It’s not a positioning statement, it’s not marketing. It’s that in the last two years, we have been doing something like this, and, oh, that doesn’t look like people trapped in their closet” — a reference to his thriller “Panic Room,” about a mother and daughter hiding from bad guys in a small room.

First of all that razzie gang always has to add a big name to their made up nomination list so they can get lots of hits and publicity. They love adding Jolie to their lists because she brings in viewers to their site. Why else would they add an Oscar and multi-award winning actress to their nomination lists?

And why hasn’t she ever won a razzie? Because they never take her nominations seriously. They are just for show. Jolie has never given a bad performance. For every movie listed as so-so or bad, Jolie is usually the best thing in it. There were any number of critics who felt that Jolie was the best thing about Alexander.

And where does anyone think that Tomb Raider has ever been razzie bad? The Tomb Raider movies were fine for the fun movies they were and nobody could have done the justice Jolie did as the video girl come to life.

Angie is fine and enjoying her family and time off’; away from the papz. Brad is probably going somewhere for business and taking fav dtr along. All I can say is - I think now I know why Old Man McCain picked Palin. You know the Republicans knew all this stuff before they selected her. I think he chose her in an effort to show that Republicans are regular people, too. LOL. I’m serious. The types of stories coming out about Palin’s family are typically the kinds of things people expect from liberals. McCain is saying, “See America, not all Republicans are rich snobs paying people off to fix our kids screw-ups. Fans, I am tired of seeing these hats on Mr. Pitt. He must be exhausted from so many kids because these hats have become his signature look. Why? Brad isn’t bald. He should stop this nonsense and stop being lazy. Brad can do much better than he’s doing when he makes appearances in public. If Brad wants to scrap his heartthrob status early, he’s doing a good job of it. He’s going to wish he had these years in a few years when his face, hair and body really begin to show age. That’s not exactly accurate. They can’t take a celeb’s photo in France on private property - that’s why Brad threatened to sue when those pix of the family playing in the yard came out. They have an expectation of privacy at home.

However, the law in France states that if a celebs are in certain public places, even if they are with their children, then they are giving up their expectation of privacy and pictures can be taken. The only difference is that in France and a lot of other places in Europe they will SOMETIMES blur the children’s faces. In case you hadn’t noticed…they don’t do that too often with the Jolie-Pitt kids…
