Academy Award-winning director Jonathan Demme presents a unique look at post-Katrina New Orleans in Right to Return: New Home Movies from the Lower 9th Ward. The film consists of “portrait” documentaries filmed in New Orleans over the course of 2006, leading into January 2007. The five short segments chart the efforts of a disparate group of New Orleanians who braved unimaginable adversity after the floods of 2005 in an attempt to reclaim their homes, their neighborhoods –primarily in the Lower 9th Ward – and their shattered lives and ivelihoods. The residents presented in the unfolding seasonal format include teachers, ministers, a retired chef, volunteer workers, the owner of the legendary “Mother-In-Law Lounge,” librarians, and workers from all walks of life.

“This is an extremely personal project for me,” stated Jonathan Demme. “We started filming four months after the floods. I felt drawn, as an American filmmaker, to contribute somehow to the audio-visual record of what these people were going through in their heroic efforts to ump start their lives in the face of this epic, tragic event. I wanted to be a part of getting these stories out.

Demme added, “The spirituality, courage, imagination, tenacity, and humor that fuels their commitment to restore their homes is truly inspiring and moving to me.”

If Peeps is talking about it, then yes, it’s a total plant by Huvane. I keep seeing all these stories on TIFF and how there are 312 films. Then they show the list of stars and stick X’s name in there. BUT…you ever notice how hardly any of the articles that talk about the buzz movies or the line-up bother mentioning that X is there hawking her flick? They just say it’s “premiering”. They don’t explain that she, like “Che” has no distributor. Or that unlike “Che” the reason her flick doesn’ thave a distributor has nothing to do with length of movie and subject matter. They still her name on the list because she’s a Z-list movie actress with A-list name recognition…and free publcity is free publicity!

I’m dying to see how many people really turn up for X’s premiere. Brad’s BAR premiere is at a primo theater. X’s premiere is at some theater on a college campus. HELLO! Someobdy got dissed and is too stupid to know it!

I want to appeal to fans to stop giving so much ATTENTION TO ONE OR TWO HATERS that usually attach themselves to a thread. The triangle is getting too old and boring, the only one who benefits from it is probably JA. If we are truly Brad and Angie’s fans,we should ignore all these attention getters who delibrately gather all negative posts to the thread and just continue positive discussions.

Bite your tongue, PT… although you cast the parts perfectly, although the actress who played Janice could be Phyllis… and quite frankly, Courteney isn’t awesome enough to be Rhoda. And FYI… some of the braintrust behind Friends were behind the MTM show.

The Mary Tyler Moore Show and Nick at Nite were my college staples and I cringe at the thought of ___ stepping into Mary’s shoes.

I wasn’t a Friends watcher so I didn’t know some of the MTM folks were involved in that show. Too funny.

Also, I don’t know who “Janice” was on Friends. I was just trying to find a role for all of the Friends regulars. LOL. I actually debated on whether or not to make Kudrow Phyllis, Sue Ann or Ted’s girlfriend Georgette. Because I was trying to match the actors with characters similar to what I knew of their Friends characters Georgette was more in keeping with Kudrow’s “Phoebe”. On the other hand, Georgette didn’t get a lot of airtime. Plus, only the Fanistons are in denial about the fact that Kudrow can’t stand X. And Sue Anne definitely had that little snotty superiority sniffing she did with Mary. It was, “You’re just the writer! I’m the on-air star!” So I thought it would be fun if Kudrow got to be mean to X on camera…and the Fanistons sit around in ingorance proclaiming, “They’re just acting. In real live Lisa LOVES Jen and they’re great friends!” When in reality…Kudrow hasn’t been seen with X more than a handful of times since Friends ended. I call that a CLUE.

As for casting Courteney as Rhoda? Well, she’s certainly no Valerie Harper, but she’s a better actress than X and Court would be able to let her private b#tch out in scenes with Phyllis! LOL. A not-so well kept secret in HW - CCA is a snooty b#tch to the little peeps. I can easily see her letting that out on-screen. Plus, judging by the fact that the C-As haven’t been seen with X for a few months now…I’d say Court has had plenty of practice with being b#tchy with X when the need arises.

After all…isn’t it time X threw her mother a bone AND buried the hatchet? By casting her mother in her show she can show the world how she’s a much better person than Angelina Jolie. She can prove that she can forgive and forget past parental slights and be the bigger person. Plus she can show the world that she’s not letting her mother starve and go without much needed medication because she has to choose between it and paying her rent…or have to live hand-to-mouth depending on the kindness of friends like two-faced gossip columnists named Cindy Adams.

bdj, hi I am glad to see you posting again. I would like to ask you something as you seem to be very familar with New Orleans. In June or July my daughter and I signed up to volunteer for Habitat for Humanity in New Orleans. We were scheduled to be there at the end of this month to assist with the clean up for Hurricane Katrina. Now Gustuv and maybe someothers.

We will be there from Sept 29th, to Oct 5th. We were lucky to get these dates as they were filling up the work slots really fast. If I remember correctly they were well into November when I e-mailed them.

It was your posting of the volunteer information that gave me the impetus to do this. Well they sent me a listing of hotels in New Orleans. But I was wondering if you might suggest some that would be close to Habitat of Humanity that I might call. I was told that we will have to rent a car. But we have to be at work early in the morning so I don’t want to have to drive too far. Also something that is not too far from the airport. I guess midpoint between the two.

I just hope they are through having hurricanes for this year. I would hate to postpone, but I don’t want to be there during a hurricane. I would appreciate any information you can provide. Not that peopl are allowed back to the cities and the businesses are reopening I will start calling around next week.

Oh you poor fanistons fans. From the day Brad left that marriage you all have been waiting for the day the Brad would respond to X. Well X can go under the knife a thousands more times, exercise every inch of fat from her body and tan so that George Hamilton would be jealous but it does not change one thing- she is still the same -neurotic and selfish. Brad will say nice things but he will not go back just as Vince Vaughan, Paul S and John Mayer did not want to stay with her.
