John McCain’s vice presidential running mate, Sarah Palin, takes this week’s cover of Us Weekly, along with newborn Trig, afflicted with Down syndrome. The mag talks about her firm stance on antiabortion (even in cases of rape) and her opposition to sex-education classes (she believes in abstinence instruction for teens).
Rudy Giuliani, the former New York mayor, recently spoke about the vetting of Palin with CNN. He sang praises of Palin, saying, “She’s got the domestic experience, and she’s got the judgment. And she’s got what John McCain, I know, finds very attractive, which is a real independent spirit and a person who can produce results.”
“Barack Obama is not ready. Barack Obama’s never run a city, never run a state, never run an agency, never run a business, never made a payroll, has never really negotiated, which is why he makes so many mistakes on how to negotiate. You know, negotiate without preconditions, that’s absurd.
“Based on what I know, she was thoroughly vetted. I think John knew her, knew what she accomplished in Alaska, a lot of it has been an open book. I think the issues that are coming out now, all the ones that I have heard so far, are ones that he knew in advance, talked to her about it on Friday. And, he has confidence — this is after all the main criteria of getting selected as vice president, the presidential candidate has to have confidence that you’ve got what he needs to accomplish the job.”

You know, when a person has a cocaine problem, the solution is rarely “We’ll get you more coke, hold on now.” Rather, you get them using better solutions for their depression, anxiety, whatever drove them to use. How the fook some pols think people are dumb enough to believe that more drilling is the solution for America’s oil addiction is just mind boggling.
Sales of hybrid vehicles and demand for higher vehicle mileage are up. The Hummer is being discontinued. Citizens get it, why don’t these people? It’s the economy, stupids. People want to end their dependence on foreign oil, waste less of our money on overseas wars that also damage our world citizen standing, reduce the national debt, and improve our daily existence rather than continue to prop up our worst image of ourselves while we borrow ourselves into oblivion.
And in terms of experience, I’m sorry but Harvard Law grad, ed in chief of Harvard Law Review, civil rights attorney, community organizer, alum of IL state senate, US Senate, author and likely on his 2d 75-page passport, that’s exposure to the world and organizational skill that Palin just lacks. She is childlike in comparison, and there are dozens of Republican women who should have been chosen ahead of her as a sincere candidate rather than a gimmick. And many of them would have been better at ticket top.
I’ve paid the US gov a ridiculous amount of money in Federal taxes over the years. While I hate to part with the money, I realize that is part of a citizen funded government, and so I like to see my money well spent on the best and brightest “employees.” I might hire Palin for a legislative position to cut her teeth, or I might hire her to run a tourist board. But no way no how would I hire her to be a heartbeat away from Oval Office behind a 72 year old who has recurrent cancer.
I’m sorry but at 3 a.m. on even the dullest night of the year, I want Palin nowhere near the damn phone in any house except her own back in Alaska.
Anonymous, I’ve read about her, and watched quite a bit of interview video. I’m not bashing her, I’m just stating that I feel she’s not competent for this job. We’ll keep her resume on file and we’ll let her know if something becomes available. We appreciate her interest in the Federal Government as an employer, and hope she will continue to support us. I think Sarah Palin is indeed the mother of Trig. I also think that if she insisted on giving her speech on April 17th after her waters broke, and then insisted on going on that 8 hours flight back to Alaska, it was because she knew that doing so could easily kill the fetus, and hoped that it would - a form of passive abortion which would save her face with regard to her position about abortion. It didn’t work, and now she is saddled with a Down’s Syndrome child.

1) Obama’s mom was at the Uiversity of Hawaii when she became pregnant to a well accomplished man from Kenya also at the University of Hawaii. They got married and she went on to earn a Graduate degree while raising kids
2) Did you know that a person is considered legal at 18? So actually if Obama’s mom was pregnant at 18 while in college that is NOT considered underage pregnancy.
3) Miss Palin’s daughter is not out of high shcool yet!!!!
4) Yes Obama, like Bill Clinton and George Bushe used drugs - BUT he also got into Harvard and did great things besides this experimental stage as did Clinton.
5) What we are talking about here is a reckless woman who threw her daughter to the wolves knowing full well her daughter was 5 months pregnant and 17
6) Obama was not in the public eye whe he was going thru his trials and tribualtions as a teen - this Palin girl has been thrust into the limelight by her uncaring mother who HAPPENS to have a 6 month old high risk baby - nice judgment.

#108, sorry to have to correct you but if you double check Obama’s mother’s birthdate, she was in fact pregnant before her 18th Birthday! She was 17 years old at the time she got pregnant. She married Obama’s father after she turned 18 and was 3 months along. Before you post something like this, please double check your dates. You can even verify this on wikipedia. It was also an UNDERAGE pregnancy!

Everyone in Hollyweird always hyped about Obama as if he’s the it thing now, what is his appeal exactly anyway, he’s too young and inexperienced. Obama keeps talking about change, but what kind of change that he’ll offer anyway, what if it turned out to be worse than now.

You asked how Palin can be for the death penalty and against abortion? You are talking about killing murderers versus killing innocent babies. Why is it so hard to understand how she can be for one and not the other? What makes no sense to me is how someone can be AGAINST the death penalty and FOR abortion. It’s not okay to kill someone who has killed another person, but it’s okay to kill an unborn baby? Explain that to me, please.
A picture speaks 1000 words? Definitely scary. I live overseas, and was a bit homesick til I saw McCain’s VP pick–a cheerleading, gun-toting, anti-sex education, fundamentalist with a year old passport (she lists a plane stop-over in Ireland, on countries visited). As a mother of 5–including a boy in the service–and full-time writer, I’m insulted by this woman’s self-righteous mind set–and appalled that she could be a heartbeat away from the presidency. And the GOP markets her as the epitome of modern American women? Please. This “good Christian” laughed three different times, on camera, when an interviewer called a political rival–suffering from cancer–”a *****,” and “a cancer.” Tell McCain that in his good ear. Oh, and also tell her to keep her kids off center stage, if privacy is suddenly so important.
(How she could’ve put Bristol in that spotlight, WHEN she did, is beyond comprehension. At least maybe now others can take turns holding baby Trig, like “First Dude” or Levi…once they teach him not to say the f-word so much.)

No, it’s not hypocritical to say that abstinence is key when her own 17 year-old daughter is pregnant. Abstinence works….if you don’t have sex, you can’t get pregnant. You cannot control if your teenage has sex. My sister-in-law and brother-in-law told their teenage daugther time and time again “we don’t want you to have sex before the age of 18, but if you decide to, please use birth control. We’ll buy it for you, if you come to us and ask” They have also been very careful about where she goes and who she hangs out with. Well guess what, the girl is 15 and they just found out that she has been sneeking off to meet her boyfriend and having unprotected sex for the last 3 months. You can only guide your children and try to teach them to make good decisions. You cannot control them.

There is nothing that shows me this woman is ready to run the country.
She isn’t running for president.
If she can’t inspire her own daugther to practice abstenice and not drink how is she going to inspire a country to follow her. It would be one thing if her daughter is off in college on her own but she is not. She is still living under her roof.
No woman can follow her teenage daughter(s) everywhere. It happens to teenagers from good families too.
