John McCain’s vice presidential running mate, Sarah Palin, takes this week’s cover of Us Weekly, along with newborn Trig, afflicted with Down syndrome. The mag talks about her firm stance on antiabortion (even in cases of rape) and her opposition to sex-education classes (she believes in abstinence instruction for teens).
Rudy Giuliani, the former New York mayor, recently spoke about the vetting of Palin with CNN. He sang praises of Palin, saying, “She’s got the domestic experience, and she’s got the judgment. And she’s got what John McCain, I know, finds very attractive, which is a real independent spirit and a person who can produce results.”
“Barack Obama is not ready. Barack Obama’s never run a city, never run a state, never run an agency, never run a business, never made a payroll, has never really negotiated, which is why he makes so many mistakes on how to negotiate. You know, negotiate without preconditions, that’s absurd.
“Based on what I know, she was thoroughly vetted. I think John knew her, knew what she accomplished in Alaska, a lot of it has been an open book. I think the issues that are coming out now, all the ones that I have heard so far, are ones that he knew in advance, talked to her about it on Friday. And, he has confidence — this is after all the main criteria of getting selected as vice president, the presidential candidate has to have confidence that you’ve got what he needs to accomplish the job.”

to jby @ 09/03/2008 at 6:57 am No, it’s not hypocritical to say that abstinence is key when her own 17 year-old daughter is pregnant. Abstinence works….if you don’t have sex, you can’t get pregnant. You cannot control if your teenage has sex. My sister-in-law and brother-in-law told their teenage daugther time and time again “we don’t want you to have sex before the age of 18, but if you decide to, please use birth control. We’ll buy it for you, if you come to us and ask” They have also been very careful about where she goes and who she hangs out with. Well guess what, the girl is 15 and they just found out that she has been sneeking off to meet her boyfriend and having unprotected sex for the last 3 months. You can only guide your children and try to teach them to make good decisions. You cannot control them.

Michelle- do you mean most americans families are like hers mean all white families. Despite how we are portrayed, black americans are american families. SARAH PALIN DOES NOT HAVE MORE EXPERIENCE THAN OBAMA.
Obama has over 10 years, in both the state senate and the US senate. That’s over a decade in the political world! Sarah Palin has been governor for about 18 months and was recently a mayor of a small town! What a joke! If the Republicans think Obama is inexperienced, why would they put Sarah Palin as VP when McCain is old and has dealt with cancer?
Sarah Palin isn’t ready to lead our country! This undermines the Republicans whole attack on Obama’s inexperience because McCain says a VP has to be ready to be President on DAY-ONE. Sarah Palin is NOT ready to be President on day-one!
Furthermore, McCain has experience on the WRONG side of the issues and experience voting with Bush over 90% of the time! What Obama has that McCain lacks is the JUDGEMENT on all important issues. That makes him qualified to be commander in chief. And any experience Obama may lack is made up for with Joe Biden!
I thought McCain put his country first? Apparently he’d rather try and get votes with women and religious voters by selecting Sarah Palin. What a political sellout and liar.
Sarah Palin is a hypocrite. Her own daughter got pregnant, yet she preaches “family values”!! I’m not attacking the kid, but man, Sarah Palin needs to reevaluate her positions and beliefs and stop judging other people on their morals. Maybe she should support contraceptive sex education! This site and other pop sites are surely Obama supporters. But in the real world, no one knows who would be the better president. Maybe Sarah with a strong political camp around her could make history on being one of the best president’s ever. No one can really foresee the value of one candidate and often the under dog takes everyone by surprise. I still haven’t decided who to vote for, in these times this is not a decision to be made lightly. God Bless America.
Obama shouldn’t be running for President this early in his career. In tough times we need someone experienced not a pushover other countries will target. Palin is like many working mothers out there and I can relate how tough it is and to get respect. She doesn’t only talk but she’s fought for what’s right and has won. I’m tired of the press giving negative views on McCain but praising Obama for achieving nothing besides being the first MIXED guy running for president, that’s the only change I see.

Abortion is a very important issue. Where was his good judgement recently. To the question “when does life begin,” McCain answered, “At conception.” Obama danced around it, and finally said, “…….that’s above my pay grade.” Please explain that!
Abortion or not should ONLY be the parents’ decision. No one else’s business, no one else’s right to have an opinion!

EVERYBODY is entitled to his/her opinion! Pastor Warren asked both men their opinion, “when does life begin.”
McCain answered. Obama was evasive (maybe he was afraid to give his opinion), and came out with the feeble, “that’s above my pay grade.”
Of course, EVERYBODY is entitle to an opinion about their OWN fetus and body.
Not anybody else’s.
Deciding on having an abortion or not, is tough and it is a decision depending on numerous individual factors. No two cases can be the same and I believe one should refrain from having “general opinions” about the matter. Being so stubbornly against it in all cases can cause a lot more hurt and pain than the supposed killing of a human being.
I don’t know when life begins, but I am certain that sometimes it is for the best to terminate that “life”.
I think that it is clear that I am not discussing canditates here… The issue is too important to let politicians decide about it.
It’s sad that the Republican Party can do no better than produce a VP candidate that adds nothing more than intense gossip and the uncovering of more dirty dealing practices. How can a mother throw her daughter under the bus like this? How can a president use a woman and her pregnant un-wed daughter to garner attention? That is not a leadership team I want making decisions for me. I have not heard one intelligent speech come out of the McCain’t Camp; their words are all showboating and trying to sneak votes out of us.
Millions and millions of hard working people have been waiting all their life for their shot at the American Dream. The Republican’s have done a great job of selfishly hording the American Dream for themselves and everyone that will sell their soul to go along with them. I would much rather vote for Obama|Biden and throw my bet down on a dream that seems too good to be true. My appetite for these dried up old beef-jerky lying Republicans has ended. I hope that all the people that have plenty of time to go clubbing, play video games, snark on the internet, and generally romp and play in our beautiful country, come out and vote. It would be a dream come true to see us being honorable again in our global relationships. We deserve to be represented with respect and honor. We work hard and give a lot to the world. Shame on you McCain’t.

Joe Lieberman thoughts about Palin “When asked if McCain’s little-known running mate, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, was ready to take over if disaster struck. “Let’s hope for the best. John is in great shape,” he said.” Now this makes me wonder how much the Republican Party paid Lieberman to speak last night at the convention.
