Via Wiki:Set in South Carolina in 1964, The Secret Life of Bees tells the story of Lily Owens, whose life has been shaped around the blurred memory of the afternoon her mother was killed. When Lily’s fierce-hearted black “stand-in mother,” Rosaleen, insults three of the deepest racists in town, Lily decides to spring them both free. They escape to Tiburon, South Carolina - a town that holds the secret to her mother’s past. Taken in by an eccentric trio of black beekeeping sisters, Lily is introduced to their mesmerizing world of bees and honey, and the Black Madonna.
The film is based off the 2002 best selling novel of American author Sue Monk Kidd and will be released on Oct. 17.

The Secret Life of Bees is one of my favorite books! I was kind of wary when finding out they made it into a movie…for anyone who’s read it, we could all say it was a very touching book. I’ve always imagined Lily to be older, but I guess Dakota suits her just fine. I hope they don’t ruin the book though!

Dakota’s adorable! I saw her at Comic-Con. She missed her panel because she was stuck in traffic but she made sure to come say hi to all of us. I can’t believe how grown up she is now!

I read the book two years ago and it was AMAZING!!!! I’m so glad they made it into a film. Dakota is cast perfectly and so is Queen Latifa. I can’t wait. I highly recommend reading this book as well.
It will be interesting to see how Hollywood will handle her transition from kid actress to more adult roles. Hollywood is cold though, they could drop her like its hot and only think of her as a child actress and move on to other young women. Time will tell.

Now this is a young girl to have your kids emulate. She is a smart and well poised young girl. We don’t see her on my-face or face-book talking about others. She is not poising half naked…She is not running after every young guy around. She has made such a mark in the entertainment field. She has worked with some of the biggest names in Hollywood. I don’t understand why she is not on the cover of every teen magazine showing other young girls how to be successful and respected. Her parents are the ones who should write a book. I would want a daughter of mine to follow her example without a second thought. To all the other teens. Success is not the clothes you wear, or how much money you make… it is not measured by the number of hits on your my-space or face-book… it is not determined by who you date, or who knows your name. It is all about RESPECT and the way you are viewed in an industry that is ever changing.
Dakata has SUCCESS. SHE IS ABSOLUTLY BEAUTIFUL INSIDE AND OUT.

I loved that book…I also pictured Lily as someone who was much older than Dakota is playing…But, if the movie is great, and the actresses pull it off, ( like in the book )…then I’m going to be the first in line………Jennifer is pretty…she has come along very well since American Idol….I wish her well..
