Jordin Sparks - MTV VMAs 2008
Jordin Sparks (in Betsey Johnson) arrives at the 2008 MTV Video Music Awards at Paramount Pictures Studios in Los Angeles on Sunday.
The 18-year-old American Idol champ, who finished off her look with Nicole Khristine jewels (Rockstar Earrings and a Faith Ring), sat in the VIP section at the Chateau Marmont after the In Touch Weekly’s Icons and Idols after-party.
The 18-year-old singer spoke out against host Russell Brand for joking about the Jonas Brothers and their purity rings. She told the crowd, ‘I just have one thing to say about promise rings. It’s not bad to wear a promise ring because not everybody – guy or girl – wants to be a slut.”

I only have one thing to say, YOU GO GIRL!!!!! lol. Russel crossed the line last night and I’m glad that she stood up for not only the Jonas Brothers, but also everyone who makes the decision to stay pure until marriage. She’s definetly always been one of my role-models since she won American Idol.

Being made fun of at the Vmas comes with the territory of being famous. Past hosts made fun of Nsync and Backstreet boys so i dont think Russell crossed the line. He is hilarious by the way.

I really applaud Jordin for standing standing up for the Jonas Brothers, herself, and anyone else with the same beliefs as them. I was really offened by what Russell said..
as far as the people who are saying theyre mad about what she said, don’t take things so literal. you and I both know she meant people who sleep with just a bunch of random people, as Russell was very openly talking about. dating someone and having sex is one thing, but just sleeping with everyone you see is another.

Paris Hilton’s comment on the other hand was not offensive and I can’t believe I’m saying this but well said. And btw, Russell Brand is a comedian, Sparks isn’t.

I think it was good of her to point out that it wasn’t a problem. Brand is a comedian and does have a right to make jokes, but he crossed the line when he claimed to have taken one of their rings. That was just sick, especially when there were so many young fans of JB watching the show. He didn’t need to come back to them all night, he could have gone on to other topics. Don’t tell me there aren’t any other celebrity scandals going on right now, that he had no choice but to focus only on a teen band and their choice to stay pure until marriage (a personal choice made on morals and beliefs). Considering Nick is only 15, Brand sunk really low. Good for Jordin.
